Congrats to Brandeis for being the first NISD band, at least to my knowledge, to ever medal in a BOA event. Definitely the first NISD band to outright take the gold.

Brandeis and Weiss will face off again in two weeks at the Vista Ridge Marching Festival, hopefully with MUCH better weather and with Finals.

I believe it’s Pflugerville ISD’s first medal too. And Del Rio ISD’s.

The first medal would be Marshall in the 1990s when they were one of the top bands in the US. I believe they got silver at a BOA competition. But yes, this NISD's first gold. This is huge for NISD. The district already has percussion and color guard powerhouses. Seeing Brandeis's rise since about my senior year has been so cool. Idk about BOASA finals, but it looks like Brandeis and Stevens aren't gonna be outside the bubble convos this year.

There is a front due through Austin late in the week. It will be significantly cooler than McAllen was today.

Let’s keep this on topic. The event is a week away and these kiddos deserve some support. I cannot wait to be back in the stands nerding out!

I’ve got a strong feeling JBA is going to be rising this year. This setback is going to take them further. More drive, more motivation. Their show isn’t even finished! Another HUGE congrats to Del Rio! They have definitely proven their worth over these past couple of years showing strong signs of improvement. Congratulations to ALL bands who performed and gave their all through the midst of unimaginable weather conditions.

Lumberton will be attending Lone Star Preview on October 9th.

I had them 3rd on my a score sheet overall as well. I had them EASILY winning my “Fan-Favorite Show” based on entertainment value.

I get it but it’s like if you played a piece at Uil one year and then the next year you played that same piece but changed the other two, there are rules against that, I don’t understand why marching band would be any different, especially if they’re like that for drill. It’s kind of a “goes without saying” thing I guess.

To be fair the balled was completely different but I get what you are saying and agree in a way. Opener was the same as last years but the next part was the same with some sight twist in it

Doing a show twice isn’t really against the rules, if it’s not identical then I assume there isn’t as issue. I may be way wrong though

They played all, or at least some of their 2020 show again, I’m confused why this is allowed.

It was a great contest other than the terrible heat. Seems like this regional should be moved to later in the season rather than having it always be the first contest! I mean come on, it gets HOT in South Texas. ??

Third Block thoughts: Brandeis has the potential to medal. Roma may very well win their class and possibly medal. JB Alexander has the potential to metal gold yet again.

Vista Ridge always turns out to me a very interesting competition, I can’t wait for this one!

OMG I'm sorry. My comment wasn't even meant to be a criticism. I'm beyond mad at the district for not putting more resources to help this band out. These poor kids kill themselves at practice every single day and they deserve SO MUCH MORE than what they are getting right now. I am so very sorry if my comment was taken personally. It was not meant to be that way and I got super busy to be able to respond. BTW, the new unis are stunning. The light color tops really pop on the field.

Think about it like this: Imagine if someone in the txbands.com live blog put "I'm extremely unimpressed with this program, next" when talking about a smaller program in a different position than the BOA powerhouses they're competing against. People would get outraged and rightfully so, some of the kids marching read that stuff and it often means more to them than their actual results. Less kids may read the forums, but they are definitely on here. I would know as someone who has teched at high schools in recent years and is heavily involved in the community. You can criticize any band program and I have plenty that I do voice on occasion, but when making those criticisms you have to put yourself in the shoes of those performers and think about how they would take them. Condescendingly saying a program "needs help" when you have positive things to say about every other program at an event is crossing that line. This isn't a "muh freedom of speech" thing, it's a "understand that your words do have an effect on others and you are to an extent responsible for those reactions" thing.

Season is young! We haven’t even had a drumline competition in the state yet ?

She of course is, but that doesn’t mean it’s always proper. These are teenagers at the end of the day, and Stony Point is in a kinda weird and probably not fun spot as a sort of odd man out in a district where the bulk of the bands are very successful. It’s one thing when we punch up—nobody’s feelings should be all that hurt by saying (all examples) that Vandegrift is boring and FloMo is stale and CTJ is a mess (but at the very least, *how* those opinions are expressed *here* should matter too!). Those bands and their results speak for themselves above any of our opinions. But going after Stony Point, when the poster is very clearly not a Stony Point parent and likely one of a school near the top of the RRISD pecking order, is probably past the appropriate mark for this forum. Having been a student on this forum (but not admitting to how long ago!), we definitely read it, and sometimes it’s hard for it not to sting a bit. Even if you’re a Hebron or Reagan or TWHS kid.
