  1. Richland is taking the field with their show “Under Pressure”. Nice start and I love the intensity. Great soprano sax solo leading into the night on bald mountain section and volcano reveal. The flugel solo was extremely exposed and he delivered. The backfield portion before the finale was a nice affect and they finished strong. I loved the phantom regiment kick out for the final set! See you in finals!

  5. As I watched the Wakeland marching band perform, I couldn't help but be amazed by their incredible performance. Their precision, musicality, and sheer energy made it the best show I had seen all day. The clarinet section, in particular, caught my attention. At one point during the performance, it seemed like a clarinet player dropped something. However, they quickly recovered and seamlessly continued with the show, demonstrating their professionalism and dedication. It was a small hiccup in an otherwise flawless performance.

Everman was very clean. For sure a finalists and probably top 4. So happy for Everman

  8. So, if they don't want someone copying them: 1. The shouldn't compete 2. Shouldn't perform at halftime 3. Only Practice in a closed facility 4. Perform behind closed curtains at regionals and area, then publicly reveal at State. This copying thing is parent paranoia who think that marching band like football. Directors aren't going to change a show, a vision, that they have been developing for over 6 months to match some other director"s vision and strengths of the other director's group. Could it potentially happen at the lowest level of band competitions, yes.

  10. I just wanted to say good luck to everyone going tomorrow and that no matter what happens all the hard work your band has put in is worth it, whether you qualify for state or not. Hopefully we do not get rained on too much and have finals. I look forward to seeing everyone preform and I know everyone is going to do amazing!

  14. Saginaw takes the field with their show, “A road by any other name.” A big improvement from last years trampoline and balls show. The end of the ballad with the Romeo and Juliet music was powerful and the transition from there was fun and light. Might make finals

  16. Birdville’s show is “Please Stand By”. Love the interstellar music in the pre show and the “beeping” trumpets from the towers (very nice addition.) Flute and trumpet solos were great! Percussion feature with the interstellar reprise was on point! Clean marching. Show length was bit short as was Azle’s surprisingly but a good solid show that we’ll see in finals if the weather holds out.

Oh I’m being very realistic. As someone who’s watched all the shows they are by far the cleanest

  18. Good luck with that…I’m happy for their appearance today but let’s be realistic.

  19. Azle’s show starts off nicely. Their set is nautical themed with a boat and helm as well as an oversized sexton. Unfortunate mic issues on their ballad solos that led to some tempo issues but they recovered well. Percussion nailed it during their feature. I think their brass tends to overpower their woodwinds and that may hurt them in UIL. Great brass section though 🙂 No problem with them making finals and likely top 6. The ballad can likely improve before finals.

  20. Since no one appears to be updating I'll take a stab: For context I just missed Burleson. Midlothian Heritage: Like the overall theme, especially the plumes. Ballad with the red cape reveal was especially well executed. Could be a real threat in a couple years. Granbury: While some difficult passages were handled well, others struggled musically, like the trumpet quartet opening. Visually, I felt there were certain static sections where movement could have been added. Summit: Really clean overall. "13" set looked especially nice. I heard a couple of slight tears originating from the percussion. The storage of the uniforms on the luggage carts was an especially nice touch. Cleburne: Music was fairly good in terms of balance even though the complexity was lacking. Golden Hour arrangement worked great. Not a fan of some of the thematic choices, but that shouldn't mean much in terms of UiL. One thing I noticed about all four of the bands was that the visuals were often mistimed. Summit was very good through the ballad but I noticed weak forms in the closer. The other bands definitely had issues throughout stemming from clearly missed sets and missed visual moments. I suspect this week's poor weather might be a culprit.

How is this rain delay gonna affect the Everman? They are a clear favorite to win this contest but the rain delay might interfere with this

  24. UGHH IT BOTHERS ME NO ONE HAS TALKED ABOUT RED OAK! They’re so freaking good and have always been a strong program! I hope they make state personally. I love their program and everyone was so sweet to us that I wanted to cry. 🥹

  26. For me personally, I had almost no issues with Flo these past two dci seasons. Of course it wasn’t always perfect, but post Covid they’ve done much better, wouldn’t mind if they went back to doing boa/UIL, anything is better than NFHS

  30. Are we sure that we're going to have finals at all tonight?
    1 point
  31. It’s more so copyright of the music rather than people being afraid of visuals being copied Also directors don’t want judges to potentially see their band before the contest, which would “poison the jury” as they already have some bias toward or against whatever band they may see online

  44. I agree with you on that. I can't wait to watch some of the other performances tonight. All the bands are doing great. I can't wait for finals! (If they have it) my predictions for now are: Wakeland Lonestar (haven't performed yet) OR LT McKinney North The Colony

  49. As a Wylie band student myself, I say that we have a good chance at making top 3. This is our best year so far and our results so far have been very revealing to some of the top bands in the state that we have competed against so far. I say that with the best show we have ever performed that day we may even catch a caption too. Just my opinion
