This was such a fun season! Gonna miss this show, but I loved performing “Gridlock” at Lone Star every single time I stepped on the field. Thanks to everyone who made this season possible! We placed 7th, which is the highest our school has ever placed at state! Congrats to Wakeland and Lebanon Trail for also making finals and representing our district well! I know we’ll all come back stronger next year, thanks guys!9 points

While we’re still awestruck at what the LISD bands are doing, let’s not ignore what’s happening in Frisco. Lone Star to Wakeland is 2.8 miles door to door. Lone Star to Panther Creek (4A silver, will be 5A by ‘25) is 2.3 miles door to door. Lebanon Trail is just across town. While we salute the kids and these programs, let’s not ignore the feeder schools — those three schools (LS, Wake, PCreek) actually SHARE kids from some middle schools, which is stunning in its own right — that instill this love of music and band. just an incredible few nights for these neighborhood kids. Congrats to all …4 points -
I think Area F had a strong showing this year! Although I'm disappointed about Aledo missing finals, they were very close (and they probably would've made it in if they went later.) Birdville was only 3 out and placed 15th like in 2019. I know that program has had some bumps since 2019, so I'm happy for them. This is also the second time that an Area F school placed in the top half at state, so congrats to Burleson Centennial! It was also great to see Richland make state and state finals after six long years. Regardless of how realignments may affect this area, I'm excited to see what the future will be for Area F.4 points

Finally back home. Congratulations to Cedar Park on now the 5-peat! It's crazy how much they turn on the switch when it comes to state, was still a completely different band from the one we saw less than a week before. I do feel for those kids at Rouse, beating them by significant amounts all year just to lose by a small amount, but with state being each year for a good while, I feel like someone's bound to dethrone CP, right?? Huge congrats to Forney and @clarinetistkai05 on the 4th place!!! While hearing Leander get 5th was a bit shocking, Forney's finals performance was just SO GOOD. Bottom half was about right, although I didn't see F-wood getting 11th, and the Henny jump was a surprise but not unexpected. Really happy to see Lone Star not drop like they did in 2019 ( don't know what that was about), but yeah, other than that pretty much lined out to what I thought it would be. Finally, to all the band kids, thank you for all the hard work you did this season to allow us to be entertained, emotionally damaged, and absolutely blown away by your amazing shows! It's really crazy to think that were pretty much done with marching band here in Texas. It's the last year that I will know anyone personally in my High school's band, which kinda feels weird, but I'll be rooting for them regardless. This year was definitely one if not the most competitive all around years in Texas, and I know next season is going to be even better! But again, to all the members of all the bands, thank you for all you do for us band lovers, enthusiast, and nerds around the world!3 points -

I definitely think Forney is gonna be like Wylie East (assuming the continue keeping their momentum up) and will most likely make state out of this area next year. Top 3 are gonna stay the same for a long time unless either one of them falls/ has a cedar ridge year "not trying to diss or hate on CR I loved ya'lls show much just using the example as a reference" or get passed, Wylie will most likely continue to be a state qualifier, they've really found themselves, with those last two spots going between Prosper, Forney, Wylie East and Mckinney Body. Of course it's boa and not UIL, but Forney was a solid point above them at SA, which isn't nothing, but it will be interesting to see how things shake up next year with their addition to this already super stacked area2 points -

Wow!! This certainly was a competitive and fun competition! I am a former Wakeland parent, and I am SUPER proud of them for cracking that LISD state sweep juggernaut. Also very happy for Lone Star and their highest finish ever. Their show was fantastic! And (correct me if I am wrong someone) Lebanon Trail’s first finals appearance! Their future is very bright. Three Frisco bands in finals is amazing for us, and I’m extremely proud of my district! I feel like every band in this competition had amazing runs, and everyone should be so proud to end their seasons on such a fantastic note! Of course I must congratulate Cedar Park on yet another title, and Rouse for the silver! Y’all’s bands are absolute beasts! LISD is the standard all districts should aspire to. Frisco is certainly trying their best. 😉 And Forney!! Wow!! @clarinetistkai05 you must be on cloud 9 with that finish! Congratulations!! Wishing you all the best in all your future endeavors after you graduate!2 points

Nope. Different day, different performance, and different judging panel plus a week and a half to clean and refine. Burleson Centennial finished in 3rd behind Aledo and Richland in Area F and were top 6 in state prelims.2 points -
I’m a member of the Aledo Band, there was no penalties, we had a decent run, not our best performance, but I still believe we deserved finals. Our performance time was not very desirable either though. It sucks that we didn’t make finals but my best wishes go out to all the other bands!2 points

Thanks for the kind words... I haven't been back to the SMBC since 2015 since Alamodome started cracking down on spectators bring in recording equipment such as the simple digital camcorder and external audio recorder. That year, I had my tripod confiscated but luckily had a small Gorillapod tucked away in my backpack... this was before Alamodome banned regular backpacks from being brought into the stadium. I perched myself into the camera-well high above the crowd along the 50 yard line at the top of the Alamodome. With how many bands performed in a block and how far away the concessions and restrooms were, it was difficult being a one-man operation. My brother was unable to join me in watching the bands that year. That's why I only did prelims because I was so exhausted. I do not think there is any way one could record the entire contest today. For now, I am content just going back to my home region (10) and recording/posting all the marching bands from there.1 point -

I was told by a few people that one of the Percussion judges is notoriously inconsistent with other judges which is why the Percussion scores so much different from the ones in preliminaries. My son who is a freshman told me there were lots of tears last night from the seniors and all the underclassman that will miss them. He got a couple notes from the seniors that made him tear up. I don't know if this normal, but it's probably one of the things that I really appreciate about our experience with the LISD band program. I know the term servant leader is overused these days but I think it's definitely the best description of the upperclassmen I've interacted with.1 point

ehhhh the rankings are good for marketing, but the only reason to visit hornrank is for the BOA recaps w/ ordinals LOL. you should care more about actual accomplishments, not a forum fan ranking. also BOA = national so it's logical to focus on that and not UIL which uses a system unique to Texas. can't directly compare scores across contests either. only direct comparison b/w Hebron and Marcus using the national system happened back in early Oct w/ Hebron sweeping the captions and winning by over a point.1 point

From what I've heard, UIL loses money hosting State, which makes me wonder why they switched to every year. Bands who make State are required to go. I can't remember if they are allowed to opt out of Area. If you were a 5A band going to Nats and State this year, your students would be missing an entire week of school plus the Friday of BOA San Antonio. I did Grand Nats twice in high school. Catching up after missing three days sucked. I can't imagine a week or more. I could understand if UIL wanted to do Area every year and just determine an Area champion on non-state years. State every year for everyone just seems like a huge hassle.1 point -
I wish we could see a push to turn BOA SA into something like "Grand Nats South" instead of a super regional given how big the turnout usually is and how heavy the competition is. Plus, so many good bands miss out on Nats because it's hard for them to afford or put the time aside.1 point

I’ve noticed a lot of nastiness and mean spirited comments recently. That makes me so incredibly sad. Marching band should bring us together under the common love for the sport. We all care so much about how our and our children’s bands do, but that shouldn’t give us an excuse to tear down each other or other programs. We all need a refresher on etiquette. Everyone in every band did great today, and we should be acknowledging that. Congratulations to all those who made it to state, and good luck to all those who made finals. I’m excited to see what comes tomorrow!1 point -

The waxahachie one is baffling, but from what I've heard, there were some evident struggles in the brass opening fanfare for Keller that people have mentioned. That judge might have been harsher about it. I think it bodes well for them going into state because they are still improving and if they fixed that up they likely would have been ahead of at least Timber Creek here.1 point -
