  3. This year is a little different. This is the best I have seen them in week 2 since I started going to all of their performance in 2015. The marching form is advanced beyond anything I've ever seen from CP this early (as a whole). The guard is gigantic (finally) for Cedar Park! They were at a little disadvantage tonight as their front ensemble truck did not make the game. The front ensemble features were mostly silent for the show tonight. Luckily Vandy allowed the front ensemble to use their set. Mighty sporting of Vandegrift. LISD is truly One Team. I hate how this phone compresses the audio. They were much more dynamic than this video's recording but, it's what I had on me. And this video should clear up as it finishes processing

  5. I had the chance to watch Frisco HS, I have to say I like the pre-show. It gives off an "enchanted" style and I definitely will keep an eye on the show.

  6. For those interested in Wylie East, please completely disregard that first run and watch this instead, lol. Props have been added and it’s just better😂

  10. I love what every band is doing in Leander ISD this year! And I agree with you, in general the bands have produced some amazing stuff so early on in the season. I swear when I watch/listen to some of them, it sounds like it is much later in the season.

  11. Here was Vandy's performance from tonight. This show is going to be fun to watch develop. Ripping runs from brass and woodwinds. There's some great articulation across the field. I mention "too much bass" in one part of this video and it doesn't translate in the video. But there is a synth bass that is way too loud at the point just before that so that instead of an addition to the show it became the feature of the show. Once they get that under control it's going to be a super effective part of the show. Great performance tonight Vandy. It did feel good to leave a CP --Vandy game where CP wasn't just demolished during the show on either side of the main event.

  14. Yeah I had this same thought. They’ve only been upwards since Covid, and haven’t missed state since. So unless they have a weird start, which they did in 22 not making finals at Katy and still made state, I so no reason for them to not me in the conversation for the last two spots.

Nice list, but how come clear brook below foster and clements? I could see any of those 3(clements,foster, and clear brook) rotrating from 4-6 though.

  16. So after having a chance to watch Melissa's performance from yesterday, I could see them having a chance to fall within the 7th (highest)-13th (lowest) range for Area. They are performing well with this being their second week!

  17. I’ve found a good amount of north Texas groups Sachse (I think) (not waxahachie sorry) Coppell: McKinney Boyd: Wylie East: Forney: some really impressive stuff from these groups so far!

  18. I actually picked up on a good deal of amorphism, especially when the winds are in a huge block but a featured section is in a blob inside it. Genius visual-musical design IMO. I’m a big fan of the difficulty in Vandegrift’s show, but Amorphous feels like a better overall package to me, at least early season. BIG visual step up for Hebron, especially in design.

Remember though, finals is a top half/bottom half draw, So, if Foster places into the top 5 in prelims (not impossible) then they’ll go on 6th in Finals.

  21. Thanks for posting! I'm always down on the sidelines and never get to see these views until much later in the year. You'd think my wife would video for us, but she gets so caught up in the show she has no desire What actually happened was the semi trailer blew a tire in our parking lot. Good thing it wasn't on the road. We were able to get back to the band pad and then unloaded the entire thing into our box truck (would normally be for props but no props until next week). We needed another box truck and Leander had an extra one we could borrow. It took a while but ultimately we were able to get everything over to Gupton Stadium other than the synth and other electronics, plus front ensemble. But as you said, the Vandy band loaned us theirs, plus their electronics/mic system so at least one of the solos was able to be mic'd. Between generous loan of the Leander box truck and the Vandy front ensemble, it really is a case of the LISD being One Team, a family. I was incredibly impressed with how the kids and directors just reacted and adjusted, they were unflappable. It says a lot about those countless hours of training through the hot summer days. And like you, I've never seen CP look this good in week2 of the season. They're going to be ready for State and Grand Nationals. Anyway, glad you enjoyed the show, and it also didn't hurt that CP won the game 49-46 in 3OT. First time in 6 years the varsity have beaten Vandegrift.

  22. I don’t have a video, but Forney’s show is on fire right now! The music is actually so good and everything else is also incredible. I miss my friends a whole bunch (don’t tell them I said that), but I know they’re loving this show so far!

  23. Would it be just slightly crazy for me to say that Lumberton could be a dark horse for Finals? Having seen half of their show already, it has full potential to shine here. They are totally sounding like a much bigger band than what they actually are.

  24. That last movement looked to be thrown on this week. Part of their cleanliness seems to come from some easier drill. Quite a bit of standing on yardlines and directly inbetween. I really hope their closer comes out with some spice. They do sound very good.

  28. They do not use field mics or amp their ensemble. The show wouldn't work with it given how separated their ensemble is throughout the show. Also, BOA highly discourages this and have some recommended changes to better clarify it. Current BOA: However, when amplification of only specific individuals during full ensemble passages leads to an intentional misrepresentation of the band sound as a whole, the instructional leadership has strayed from the core values and beliefs stated above. Such misrepresentation of acoustic qualities, by enhancing the performance of only a few players, is unacceptable and must be selfregulated by the participating bands. Proposed Changes: In consideration of the Bands of America philosophy, we recommend the following be implemented for the 2023 BOA season and beyond. • Amplifying individuals (wind players) through a soundboard during tutti sections leads to an intentional misrepresentation of what is being performed by the total ensemble. This misrepresentation of acoustic quality by enhancing a few individuals is unacceptable. • Soloists and featured ensembles may use microphones during their feature section but must be muted from amplification when not being featured. • Where a participating band has a limited number of performers (e.g., one player to a part), the use of individual microphones is acceptable.

  29. Not quite - but after the rules changes from the past with prelims finals it's easy to get mixed up on things. Below is a copy paste directly from the UIL Rules. For the Area there SHOULD be over 20 groups in prelims, which means 10 Advance to Finals. (1) 9 Or Fewer Bands. If there are 9 or fewer bands, the preliminary round will stand as the final round. The top 50% of the competing bands will be recognized as finalists and will receive a finalist award, while the remaining bands will receive a participant award. There will be a drum major retreat held at the end of the competition to announce the results. The names of those bands advancing to the state marching band contest will be announced. (2) 10 to 19 Bands. If there are 10 to 19 bands, the top 7 bands will advance from the preliminary round to the final round. In addition, any band below seventh place that receives a ranking of three or higher from at least two of the music judges and one of the marching judges will also advance to the final round. The two marching judges and two of the music judges will change captions. There will be a drum major retreat at the end of preliminary round to announce the results. Bands not advancing to the final round will receive a participant award. At the end of the final round there will be a drum major retreat where each band will receive a finalist award and the names of those bands advancing to the state marching band contest will be announced. Under extenuating circumstances such as severe weather or limited participation, the contest officials in consultation with the State Director of Music may declare the preliminary round to be the final contest. (3) 20 to 29 Bands. If there are 20 to 29 bands, the top 10 bands will advance from the preliminary round to the final round. In addition, any band below tenth place that receives a ranking of three or higher from at least two of the music judges and one of the marching judges will also advance to the final round. The two marching judges and two of the music judges will change captions. There will be a drum major retreat at the end of the preliminary round to announce the results. Bands not advancing to final round will receive a participant award. (4) 30 Or More Bands. If there are 30 or more bands, the top 12 bands will advance from the preliminary round to the final round. In addition, any band below twelfth place that receives a ranking of three or higher from at least two of the music judges and one of the marching judges will also advance to the final round. The two marching judges and two of the music judges will change captions. There will be a drum major retreat at the end of the preliminary round to announce the results. 31. While the date might not be super optimal, I think this regional has great potential, as mentioned in other forums, to be one for groups that are trying to “get away” from top groups in the area such as the LISD, RR-ISD and the big SA schools in the are, which makes me really happy. I hate when bands aren’t able to make finals at boa regionals simply because the really aren’t a ton of changes as to who ends up making finals each year at the other regionals (not hating on any programs Tx is just so stacked), and will be a great opportunity for those programs that are always so close to finals get that much deserved second performance, and I’m supper excited to see how this comp turns out
