UIL 6A Area B 2024
littlejaw and one other reacted to crunchycookie3 for a topic
Preposterous that the UIL slammed 5 state finals caliber bands in one area and set it up with a maximum of 4 bands to advance. Struggling to see how the UIL feels that this is equitable compared to other areas across the state. UIL has got to get it together! All it takes is the smallest amount of silly judging and Keller, Bell, or Coppell wouldn't advance. Echoing some sentiment from above, I understand the geographic representation aspect, I really do. I just don't understand why the UIL gives that more weight in state than depth of competition. Maybe the UIL needs to reassess their state advancement policy? It seems like when UIL drafts the areas, they pay very little attention to history of success, which may be good to help keep it balanced. But keeping this area like this for 2 full years is going to be miserable2 points -

The park and bark thing is straight out of the 2000s for me as a comment. Bands are smarter now, especially in a classification who's champions are pretty pristinely clean/smart about their difficulty. Not that I think that recent champions shows are overtly easy, but they're pretty straight forward, simple, smart, and impeccably performed. It's been a little bit since we've seen a pretty intense/riskier show win, Canton 2018, North Lamar 2016, and Argyle 2008-2014 come to mind there. Since someone seems to have a grudge here, Sulphur Springs isn't doing anything out the ordinary. Big ensemble moments are holds, section technical features/solos are stationary and enhanced with choreo (which isn't easy in and of itself while playing harder licks), and on the move stuff tends to be big builds. It's very in line with what other bands are doing and fits well within the sheets that are now being used. The brass doing a big build on the move in their ballad at some pretty healthy step sizes is hardly easy either. Closer has some on the move stuff while playing the harder parts of Asphalt Cocktail. Their show is super fun and smartly designed. Can't wait to see how they do down the long run.2 points

I know the competition has already passed, but I wanted to know people's opinions about all the schools that they were able to see. I didn't see a post about this already so I decided to make one now.1 point -

If it is like last year then if a small school doesn't make the finals then they will probably have an exhibition. However, if I remember Mineola (3A) made it to the finals and they did not have an exhibition. With the amount of talent that was there last year and again this year, it's a huge measuring stick for a program and will be very difficult for a small school to make it to the finals.1 point -

This comp is a bloodbath! Coppell Bell Keller Timber Creek Keller Central Haltom SLC Lake ridge Martin Trinity Boswell SGP 4 (potentially 3) state spots is brutal for this area. I still have Coppell, Bell, Keller, and Timber going. I see Keller Central also having a good outcome at this competition. It's sad to see so many talented schools not advance1 point -

It took me like 5 minutes to figure out how to like reply to this. As someone who marches with Cedar Park and generally keeps in tabs with the other schools in my district. Leander's design, visuals, and music are actually awesome. Gives huge bluecoats vibes this year, I don't understand why people aren't picking up on that at all. As someone who goes to Cedar Park I obviously want to keep the streak, but if we lose to Leander this year, the disappointment would be a little more minimal.1 point

It was brutal last night. Still close to 100 at kickoff. I'm NOT in Pit Pack shape yet, and discovered I need to drink about twice as much water daily. I have no idea how the kids do it, other than being young and invincible. The good news is the high temp for next week at BOA-RR is only supposed to be about 95. Nice and cool...1 point -

Why would they restrict this competition to so little available state spots? This is after all one of the most competitive areas and I believe that this area needs the most spots able to take bands to state. I seriously think this is unfair for any bands that were on the rise, as now we will only see the same bands every year....1 point

Listen, this is for everyone in here who seems to be hating on everything I am saying. I am just really enjoying Lumberton's show this year and think it has potential as it is very impressive with what they have on the field right now. If I want to predict my former band program finishing 4th or whatever placement, then I am. If they end up finishing 7th, or 15th then so be it. Now, lets end this whole negativity stuff now before I get an admin to handle this.1 point -
