UIL WILL be happening this Saturday. Yes, it's stormy, but Monday is looking like it'll be more stormy than Saturday. Right now, based on what I've heard, the plan is for bands to go nonstop (as nonstop as weather allows) to get all performances in. Once all performances are completed, if it looks like finals performances will run past midnight, state advancement will depend on prelim scores. This information has been communicated to me by my band directors.6 points -

I'm not familiar with the geographical extent of this Area, but for anyone more than 60 miles or so, it makes sense to give them as much of a heads-up as possible. Waiting until the day-of, the furthest bands could already be on the road.3 points -
To those of you here who are performing, take a listen towards the end of the podcast. Just concentrate on your job so you will perform your best. There's nothing you can do about the weather, but you can be sure you are focused and ready for whatever situation you find yourself in. Good luck to everyone! See you there!3 points

I didn't go to any of these schools, I graduated high school years ago and the sole purpose of my post was to put my thoughts out there, not to put any other band programs down. Prosper obviously had a strong show, they wouldn't have advanced if they didn't, but I know several schools have a bit of a "ranking rivalry" so to say, like Boyd and Prosper. 2022 Boyd went to state by a tiebreaker and 2023, Prosper got really far and Boyd didn't go by one spot. Either way, I apologize for coming off as rude or anything like that, but these are just things that I have heard through others in these forums and from members of the two bands.2 points -
But isn’t that part of what makes this art form so great? These bands are all so close to each other in talent, and drive, and quality. These kids put forth so much effort and skill - and honestly do their damndest to be the best that they can be! Isn’t it awesome that we have public school teachers who dedicate themselves to, not only teaching these kids the music skills, but also the teamwork, sacrifice, dedication and commitment that it takes to to be part of something truly great!?!? I truly am impressed of all of them - (these teachers) - of the programs they have built up over time, of the lives that they have influenced and molded in countless ways, and their unwillingness to demand less than the best efforts from their pupils. It is something sorely missed from most in this day and age. I stand in awe.2 points

Preach! The situation is terrible for the kids, parents, directors, community, and more. I obviously can't guarantee this, but no director I've ever known would DELIBERATELY have an ineligible student march in performance - it's simply not worth it. Like what happened to a group years ago up north, if I were a betting man there was probably a student who was behind a prop on the field that was ineligible. The moment the clock starts for the start of the show, if that student was in the performance zone of the field, that's a DQ for the group. As people have already said, let's not intentionally or unintentionally add to the fire on the already terrible situation that is occurring.2 points -

I agree the top contenders definitely have boring shows compared to other bands. However, these aren't being overlooked. Judges have shown that they will reward a clean band over a fun band. That's why the top contenders are the top contenders. They are clean on the field visually and musically.1 point
-
There are some shows from some of the favorited front runners that I feel like are technically clean and have good musicality, but I am a little underwhelmed and think the shows are just kind of meh, but not in a bad way. There are also shows that I feel are more exciting and dynamic that seem to be a bit overlooked...1 point
