2018 6A State
TXWestside replied to Magma31651's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
The Keller band is too precious for this world and must be protected at all costs! -Basically they were upset that Timber Creek didn't make state so they wrote "4TCHS" on their arms. These kids are the best! https://twitter.com/sbecht03/status/1059606780660072450 -
Grand Nationals 2018???

Actually 5th* time in a row for Timber (but 2 in a row at the same contest). Also Timber has beat Coppell at almost every BOA contest in the last 2 years(including this year) so I honestly don't see that changing. But hey anything can happen! I think: 1.Keller 2.LD Bell 3.Timber Creek 4. Prosper 5. Coppell 6. Haltom
-
Yeah I think having a UIL-like system is a great way to highlight bands that maybe prefer execution over “art”/impact but the consistency of it is just such a big issue. NO clue how they would fix it though
-
Ok and that’s fair and I get that for you it might not just be about Keller. But I also only see people complaining about that specific judge so i’m only expressing my concerns over the m3 judge witch-hunt lol
-
I get that y’all love Keller or whatever and no doubt they are a spectacular program but I feel like a lot of you guys are maybe overreacting a bit.. That’s just how this activity is ladies and gents. Judges don’t always agree. Placements can and will be wild sometimes. Unfortunately we can’t know exactly what judges see/hear so we just have to trust the process. Am I upset that Timber lost a tie by one judges preference even though in my eyes they objectively had a much more difficult show and still performed at an entremely high level? Yes. And Duncanville is a great band so no shade to them but I understand that UIL is just a different beast. Y’all got second place... RELAX. You will have your shot at redemption soon enough and will undoubtedly kill it at state! I have nothing but respect for the Keller program and I know a lot of great people that went there but don’t get your pitchforks out for one measley music judge’s placement. For perspective just think about all the bands that couldn’t even perform in FINALS like Central or Richland who have been consistent contenders for years.

I think the one thing we can all agree on is that this is the most dramatic area thread of all time
-
Lol it's ok that person's comment was kind of rude actually, so no need to apologize. I just think it's interesting to see how passionate everyone is about this lol.

go awf

Results are up on UIL forms...
-
This has to be unprecedented?? I mean EVERY single time, in 10 years? Crazy. I know that they have nothing to be ashamed and I heard had an AMAZING performace but that really is so heart-breaking...

Any good Area B competition wouldn’t be complete without a little bit (or a lot) of chaos with the scores!! Wish I was in town to catch what I’m sure is going to be one crazy awesome finals competition.
-
Can’t wait to see the full prelims results later! I’m betting it they are pretty interesting lol
-
Haha no worries, no offense was taken. I know precisely what you mean. Guess we will just have to see how things play out on Saturday!

Yep. Trust me those placements are 100% correct. In fact, here's a FloMarching video with Timber's director where she even confirms this (skip to 4:18): https://www.flomarching.com/video/6253707-darla-mcbryde-on-timber-creeks-2018-season If that's not enough take it from personal experience as a former member. So proud of these guys and how far they've come.

Let's not forget that BOA and UIL are scored much differently, so if certain bands placed higher than others in BOA competitions this doesn't necessarily mean they will place higher at Area. Waxa, Bell, Coppell, and even Duncanville have historically always done VERY well in the UIL Scoring system. Of course, those scores, particularly the music and visual scores, help us gauge more or less where everyone is at but I would still take them with a grain of salt. Personal predictions: 1. Keller 2. Prosper 3. Coppell 4. Bell 5. Waxahachie 6. Timber Creek 7. Duncanville 8. Haltom 9. Plano East 10. Keller Central

Yikes. Here's to hoping regions 24,30, and 31 pull through! Would really be a shame if a great band couldn't make it to state because of this :/

KISD marching expo
TXWestside replied to Trumpetman7's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
I believe the OP is referring to the Keller ISD marching expo which is exclusive to the Keller ISD HS/MS groups. If i'm not mistaken the KISD expo is today, Tuesday the 2nd. It's a closed event though (Tickets must be purchased from band/band boosters directly) so i'm not sure what thoughts to have really. I will say (being an alum of the district so maybe slight bias) i'm just happy to see the growth of all the bands in KISD and proud of all their hard work/success. Looking forward to hearing how it goes tonight! -

https://twitter.com/hmbown/status/1042924219380711424?s=21 Preview of Timber’s brass section! Mellos can blow! I also saw a video of Coppell recently and was very impressed at how visually clean they were this early on! -

I have to agree. I went tonight as my sibling was in one of the middle school performing bands and I was shocked to say the least. I graduated a few years ago but they are practically an entirely different group now! So impressed and excited for them. Mrs.McBryde and staff are doing great things over there. Keller was also amazing as usual. Very different show from them this year. Should be an interesting competition!

2016 6A Area B
TXWestside replied to TrumpetTrooper's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
Amazing display tonight! Truly all of the finalists bands tonight showed serious state-level quality! Shame that more couldn't advance. On another note, here's a fun (or not so fun) fact; EVERY SINGLE area competition that the Timber Creek Band has ever attended has resulted in them being first-runner up to attend the State Marching Band Contest: 2011: 5th place (advance 4) 2012: 5th Place (advance 4) 2014: 2nd Place (advance 1) 2016: 6th place (advance 5) As an alumni it breaks my heart to see this band having gone through so much, but I can't help but smile to see the way they performed tonight and the undeniable progress they have achieved. KOKO Falcon Band!! -
2016 6A Area B
TXWestside replied to TrumpetTrooper's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
It's really hard to predict who will advance considering this area is pretty stacked but i'll go ahead and predict the 10 finalists. (random order) With 1-8 all being possible state qualifiers in my opinion: 1 .Keller 2. L.D.Bell 3. Keller Central 4. Coppell 5. Martin 6. Timber Creek 7. Duncanville 8. Plano East 9. Mansfield 10. Fossil Ridge
