  1. Finals predictions (bands that will advance to state have an asterisk by their name): 1. Laredo Alexander* 2. Brownsville Hanna* 3. Laredo United* 4. PSJA* 5. Edinburg Vela 6. Harlingen South 7. Donna North 8. Laredo United South 9. Laredo Nixon 10. PSJA North (could possibly go to San Benito or Harlingen) I wish Brownsville Lopez was still in 6A
  2. Updated finals predictions based off of the past few weeks and videos from Region: 1. Vandegrift 2. Vista Ridge 3. Westlake 4. Brandeis 5. Lake Travis 6. Stevens 7. Del Rio 8. Taft 9. O’Connor 10. Brennan (my dark horse of the contest)
  3. I remember the days when Westlake was one of the most anticipated marching events in central Texas. Glad to see it’s still going strong.
  4. Nope. They were 9th and only 7 went to finals. They haven’t made area finals since 2014.
  5. I think Taft will end up in the bottom half of finals for the first time in a while. I hope Stevens can peak at the right time because having three NISD bands in finals would be fun. O’Connor….I hope they have a strong showing at UIL region, because currently I have them below Del Rio and Taft. I’m manifesting Brandeis taking the last state spot over LT because that would be huge for NISD in Area H.
  6. I really feel like Brandeis and Lake Travis will be very close to each other at this contest. It could go either way. Brandeis is having a great season so far, and Lake Travis missed BOA Austin finals which is unlike them. Honestly, the bottom half of finals is kind of unpredictable at the moment.
  7. I could potentially see Del Rio as high as 7th if they continue with the momentum they have going on.
  8. Assuming all bands make sweepstakes and advance to Area, there will be 23 total bands competing, with 10 finals spots and 4 bands qualifying for State. My very, very early predictions for finals (if there are 10 spots in finals): 1. Vandegrift 2. Vista Ridge 3. Westlake 4. Brandeis 5. Lake Travis 6. Stevens 7. O’Connor 8. Steele 9. Taft 10. Judson Those last 4 spots are a toss-up. Based on the 2018 results and this season thus far it’s very likely that Del Rio, Warren, Wagner, Brennan or Clemens could sneak into finals as well. No idea how many of these bands have fared during the past year and a half, so only time will tell. New to 6A Area H: NISD Harlan
  9. Most guard programs tend to be significantly less stable than the band programs they’re attached to, primarily because most guard instructors are not employed full time and tend to shift around from program to program. Even for elite groups this is often the case. Recruiting/rebuilding for a guard program takes much longer than a band program.
  10. It would have been cool to see them there. Definitely top 20 potential if and when the program decides to return to the Alamodome.
  11. I really hope Taft can pull through and make finals this year, but that line up is stacked. Best of luck to all participating bands.
  12. Congrats to Brandeis for being the first NISD band, at least to my knowledge, to ever medal in a BOA event. Definitely the first NISD band to outright take the gold.
  13. I really feel for Marian Catholic. I really enjoyed the complexity of their show but I feel like it was a bit too far out there for the audience (and probably judges) to fully understand. Gotta hand it to them, no other band will ever come close to the amount of times they’ve been in finals (34 consecutive years).
  14. The bands in Indy better watch out for Prosper later this week. They were fantastic and that guard.....WOW!
  15. Just saw Leander and they were ON FIRE. Couldn’t take my eyes off of the guard. Took a few clips to show my students for motivation.
  16. Thank you all for posting results and scores! This was the Central Catholic band’s first time participating in a contest finals in at least the last 20 years, so we were really happy to be in such good company.
  17. I was in the UTSA color guard when we performed at the 2016 BOA SA Super Regional. One of the standout performances of my marching days; the crowd reaction was INSANE.
  18. Brandeis HS in San Antonio seems like they might be the prime NISD representation at UIL State and BOA very soon
  19. I used to frequent this board often in HS and I recently started a job as a guard instructor at a Catholic school in San Antonio. I was wondering what opinions or comments y’all have about Catholic or private school bands throughout the state? Is anyone in the conversation?

  24. Yesterday was the first time my band had attended a BOA event in several years, and I just want to say how grateful I am for the opportunity to perform in the Alamodome alongside so many other incredible bands. I was amazed at how well organized everything was and the treatment we recieved from the staff and volunteers was top notch. It was certainly an experience to remember, and a great way to finish off the season. Thank you to all the BOA staff and sponsors for making it all possible. Good luck to the rest of the prelims and finals bands. Make it happen!
