Thank you, LKendrick. Yes, Haltom has stepped it up over the past several weeks. Polishing is what it's all about, right? They do have a LOT of freshmen this year, but with their outstanding upper classmen, things have really pulled together. Area definitely wasn't a fluke and Duncanville wasn't either. They are growing with each rehearsal and each performance. I appreciate your compliments and kind words. I would like to add that Friday night's game was wonderful. Even though playing Southlake Carroll is no picnic for our football team, Southlake's fans are always the MOST gracious, lovely people. The band is also great! All of Haltom band parents agree: Southlake is our favorite place of the football season. Thanks to them for going out of their way to make us feel welcome! And thanks for how quiet you all became as we performed for you. What respectful, awesome people!

That was during preliminary awards that they won Outstanding Guard. I don't have the results sitting in front of me, but Westwood won Outstanding Guard in finals. It was a GREAT competition! Loved seeing shows I haven't seen yet and congrats to all bands! We are SO proud of Haltom!! They really put everything out there on the field last night!!! Way to go PRIDE!!!

6A UIL State

Haltom had 4 4 5 9 3 <? So the marching judges...one gave 3rd place and one gave 9th...it's indeed weird, but I'll quote the band director: That's why there are five judges. -
What I found interesting was that three out of the five judges actually gave Haltom a higher score than FloMo in finals. If not for the one, imo, rogue judge who put them in 9th place(really?), Haltom would've been third. The same judge who gave them 9th in finals, ranked them 7th in prelims. He's also the same judge who ranked them low at Mansfield Preview of Champions, when the other judges gave them 1st across the board. Wish I knew what he saw that the other judges did not. It's curious.... Anyway, needless to say...Area B is intensely difficult to get out of to State. Congrats to all bands..and definitely, the LD Bell bashing I've seen on this site is unnecessary. Bands have off years sometimes...*shrug* Haltom missed State in 2012 by one point, after attending State every year from 2000. They came back this year and made it. Such is life in marching band world. lol (especially Area B!)

Thanks for your kind words. I was very sad when last year ended, because I loved 'Endangered!' lol This year's show has grown so much throughout the season, it's become one of my all-time favorites. The dads built those props and put them together for each performance. Moms made them "shine" with lots of shellacking. lol It takes a village! That weaving through the block...sigh...is indeed beautiful! My mouth always drops open when that begins because, as a former marcher myself, I know how difficult it is to accomplish. Anyway, they are all very proud of what they've done this year. We're all thankful to be a part of it! Thanks, Xenon! We did read your blog and you always have the nicest things to say. We appreciate you!!! -

Yes! It was misty, almost tiny little snow flakes, it felt like! Crazy! I've lived here all my life and still...it shocks me how completely different it can be from one year to the next! I had to admit that I never expected to be wearing shorts at a band contest at the end of October! I think it got to 92 degrees? Insanity! -

Oh, I changed it before I read your response, so I was having Internet posting-regret. It's not that my OP was particularly bad...it wasn't. I just didn't want to sound whiny, which is how I feel atm. haha What an incredibly HOT late morning/afternoon it was today! Kudos to ALL bands who performed in that weird is-this-October-or-August? heat! We were all proudly clapping while sweating for you...and needless to say, band uniforms are being washed! *phew!* -

Yep--changed my post...extremely tired...pardon me. *yawn* lol Area B is crazy and it should be interesting to see how the new rule about advancing bands plays out in two years. Easily could've had 5-6 go to State from B. -

Very proud of Haltom tonight! They earned an intensely tough spot at finals!!! Way to go, Pride!!! By the way, four judges gave us mid to upper 90s out of a 100. One judge gave us a 69. Some judges just march to the beat of their own drummer...pun intended.
