  1. Well, that's assuming that Box5 doesn't take a crap like last year. Trying to be optimistic, but... I am going to try to get the multi-cams of the finals.
  2. Well put together and obviously a lot of work, but the only performances that are going to matter will be the ones this week and the only scores are the ones given this week as well. I used to spend a lot of time doing just what you are doing, but learned that previous scores and results just really don't tell you a lot about what's going to happen this week. It is, however, a lot of fun to speculate. Nothing wrong with that!
  3. I think Carmel is going to be very hard to beat this year. I don't like saying that because I don't really like their show or rarely ever do, but I think they are going to make it very difficult to beat them.
  4. And like all electronics, they don't always work. If you've built your show around using them and they aren't working and delaying your show and causing a time penalty, they can cost you. And you have to have them properly set up and utilized, which often requires outside experts coming in, and that costs money as well. For many, they are a huge pain for such a small gain. And most important, what they Amplify still has to be of good quality to help you. Louder bad woodwinds will gain you nothing.
  5. Hey, I'm ready! It's really not that long until the season starts.
  6. I used to look back and stair at them until they shut up. And then I would thank them.
  7. I've had to do that to a bunch of band directors and guard instructors before. You would think they would be the first to respect others watching the shows.
  8. Many bands use shotgun mics and have been for a long time. It's mainly for projecting their woodwinds during woodwind features and aren't used throughout their show.
  9. Thanks, Box5, for the commercials at the beginning of Vandegrift! I predict a complete failure like last year during the Grand Nationals. They just do not care.
  10. We used to be able to do that. Then the lawyers got involved.
  11. It means you are streaming on Box5. Buffering during Round Rock as well.
  12. Thanks for the reminder. I was totally not recording as well. I blame the margaritas. Again, not recording.
  13. Although huge jumps are rare in this last week, they are possible. I remember Round Rock in 2013 going from the bottom of San Antonio to 4th in finals at the Grand Nationals. They raised their score 6 points in that one week. I am wishing a huge jump for Hebron and really, all Texas bands this next week!
  14. In that case, I hope that you and others in the concensus contact UIL and let them know that txbands forum contributors felt that the judging in the morning was too harsh.
  15. A consensus of who? Fans? Educated and knowledgeable people? Band parents?
  16. I'm pretty sure Forney is the first band to use Garden Weasel tines for a sound effect.
  17. I watched them all, and thought they were appropriately placed.
  18. I think it had way more to do with there being way more strong performances later in the day. I think the judging was accurate.
  19. Each band is scored by the judge's personal standard, not by how they compare to other bands. Cedar Park doesn't need to be remembered later in the day for consideration of scoring other bands. There is no consistency by scoring by comparison.
  20. Good to see Crockett at competitions again. I have great memories of them at UIL State in the late 1980's when they were one of the best marching bands in Texas. I believe they were 2nd in 1988 when only 5 bands were selected for finals.
  21. I wouldn't be too sure about that. I think they will be fairly placed. BOA scoring is way more accurate than UIL scoring.
