  1. At this point in the season, they are usually very strong. I think they will be fine as far as making it in the finals. At least I hope so.
  2. Takes a severe weather change to crack a bassoon. It's usually a drop or wrenching one of the tenons. Either way, very repairable, fortunately. Repaired them for 21 years.
  3. I remember that. They played first at 8:00am. It was about 40° and the sun was just coming over the top of the other side of the stadium and you could barely see the field. By 10:00, it was warm and comfortable. It was a very bad position to perform in. I remember another local school laughing and mocking the fact that they didn't make finals that day. Funny enough, the next week at San Antonio, that band didn't make the finals there.
  4. I first attended in the mid-1980's when it was at UT's stadium in Austin. It was just as exciting back then and something I will never forget. At that time they did all classes, both prelims and finals, in one day. Only 5 bands in each class for finals then, so making finals was tough. And no 6A class then, either.
  5. We're they judges, band directors, or knowledgeable people?
  6. I have to admit that there are at least a couple of bands that, before today, I had as locks or sure bets for finals, that I now see in peril of not making it this year.
  7. I'd bet it is. The latter half of this contest have been the stronger performances so far.
  8. You just have to have your TV and phone on the same network, like your wifi. I've had three devices connected today with no issue, but they are all on my wifi network.
  9. Please keep in mind that Waxahachie may or may not end up in the top 14, regardless of any time issue.
  10. Not as strong as their area performance last Saturday, but an overall good one.
  11. UIL is historically hard-nosed with penalties. I don't ever remember them changing their minds, regardless of who it is.
  12. Pearland had a really strong performance today. They are definitely ready for Grand Nationals.
  13. And these are UIL judges, so you just don't know where they will land.
  14. Yes, me too. So glad to be wrong about them earlier. The resolution isn't so great, but only one freeze-up of the stream so far. A lot of this is how the app or player handles any lag.
  15. The more people that are added to the stream, the more they will lower the resolution. Their goal is to not have you buffering.
  16. I noticed that and told my wife that there is no way that was Bentonville. Surprised they didn't correct that. Also, I think they combined GE and first place in that announcement.
  17. American literacy education be like...
  18. Trust me, I understand marching band and scoring much better than you do, bro. I've been at this for over 60 years and am trained and educated in this business. I can't explain to you what you don't have the capacity to learn. I'm sure that will not stop you arguing the point you are trying to make, though.
  19. Still way too many points to have a standard to work with.
  20. I am willing to bet you'll be waiting until the GN's. NFHS is the absolute bottom and worst streaming service out there, but is the only way to watch remotely and literally better than nothing. Well, at least with nothing, you won't be wearing yourself out being angry and swearing all day.
  21. The 400 sections are a much preferred sections over the 600, at least in most persons' eyes. It's way less that what you would pay for DCI finals seats in that section.
  22. I'd like to agree with you, but UIL and change do not mix well. It was probably the cheapest option. Saved a dollar or two...
  23. I don't know how many points each judge is working with today in each category to determine the cumulative score. It used to total to 1000. How can anyone manage with any accuracy a range of points that big? It appears from this sheet that this is still the range. I have always thought that a wide range like this is somewhat arbitrary as a 675 and a 702 don't really reflect any real measure of a band's performance. With a much smaller point range like BOA, it is much easier to understand the difference between a score of 16.5 and 17.5. And it is certainly conceivable to think that a judge has a standard with the BOA scoring that a band can be compared to, to determine their score.
  24. Most districts require their bands to attend UIL events and pay for their transportation costs to them for area and state, if they qualify.
