  1. Definitely going to continue the bandwagon here. Let your band speak for itself. Some hype here and there is good, but it got unbearable in the lead-up to Atlanta last year (even if well earned in the end).
  2. Leander only attends Lone Star. They did attend in ‘16, but that’s because they couldn’t attend Lone Star because of GN.
  3. Well that's the thing. Skipping UIL Region would mess up a ton of things even down to the middle school UIL level. However, Area is completely optional.
  4. I’m curious to what would happen in this situation if the game coincided with UIL Area. Surely they wouldn’t require TWHS to pull out, then?
  5. Ahh. I wasn’t sure if TWHS got an unlucky draw and ended up with a Friday spot.
  6. Do we know what day The Woodlands performs in San Antonio prelims? That might be the culprit here.
  7. Can TWHS take the first spot in finals and then go to the vast majority of the game after? Just heard that the game is at 6. I doubt bands will be as willing to let them go last in finals.
  8. I do appreciate the optimism that sheer logic would ever work regarding Texas high school football
  9. Unpopular opinion, but I think Leander is in the best position to win this regional. I personally don’t think any other band I’ve seen so far is coming close visually in terms of performance and effect. Combined with a strong and already sparkly music book that should keep them closer than they have been historically in performance and high in effect, it seems the formula is there.
  10. This is Reagan's to lose. Bowie in second, and Round Rock in third, I imagine.
  11. Just like there aren’t two Super Bowls or two Olympics, two Grand National competitions wouldn’t work. There are notable logistics problems - The Alamodome lot can barely fit 70 trailers and over 300 buses; 100 and 450 would be a nightmare. And while I agree that the competition is at least comparable if not stronger in SA, SA is still pretty much Texas only, while GN attracts a broader range. Indianapolis is still functionally more central in the context of the country, and only the West Coast bands and the Oklahoma bands get an easier drive (with it being a wash because it only cuts a couple hours for the latter and American Fork the CA/HI bands flying). Finally, the reality is that even a very average quality middle class demographics at best Texas band has more resources than many GN semifinalists. Texas has more money to bear the burden of the trip. It just seems that lately, those resources have been spent on the incorrect years. But, largely, a GN in Texas would be probably 80% Texas bands and perhaps more. For a national circuit, I don’t think that is productive
  12. This is now my 12th season in the activity, and I’ve seen many boring shows become something special by November and many many more sparkly shows in September become complete duds at the end. It’s early.
  13. It’s just how population density works. Some area is going to be stacked. Or we can go back to the old way and screw over West Texas.
  14. Just to stress the point, Coppell has been making state finals for every year they’ve been eligible for longer than many in this thread have been alive
  15. Living on loans is hard! But I might be in town for the big dance in the Alamodome
  16. Bandwoww is so so so close to the right answer. Like right on top of it.
  17. Yep, by far. Since I use it for two months each during WGI, DCI, and BOA, that saves me 30 bucks at the very least.
  18. Actually they did jack the price to 49.99 plus tax! I had a big snafu with my yearly subscription so when they offered me renewal options (after the renewal processed to my credit card...) I was the pricing structure did reflect an increase during DCI season.
