Judges?
aggietrumpet327 replied to Trumpetman27's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
There is one major flaw in the method of throwing away the most "off" judge, because there will be scenarios where you cannot possibly objectively figure out who is the "off" judge. For example, what if the ordinals for three judges are 1, 5, and 9? Do you throw out the first place or the ninth place? Or if your three marching scores are 2, 3, 4? Or your four music judges (I know this would be ridiculous) are 1, 4, 6, 9? I know when we see a judge put Bell or Duncanville 10th in music, it's easy to say whoa that is obviously "off" from the other judges, but that might not always be the case. If you're going to have a throw-away system where you're not counting judges scores, pretty much the only fair way to do that is to throw out the high and low for everybody. A way to throw out high and low scores would be to add two music judges (five total) and two marching judges (four total) so after highs and low scores are thrown out for everybody in each caption, they'd still be weighted the same as they have it now. But you know there's no way UIL is going to pay for a nine-judge panel. EDIT: Looks like steeldrum was thinking the same way and beat me to it! oh well. -
Cool music?

Oh, wow. All right then! Somebody come forth and give us a recording! I'm digging up an old post, I know. Sorry I'm about 8 months behind. I marched at Coppell from 00-03 and the Tchaikovsky show was my senior year. I do actually have a CD that we made that fall, which included a live performance recording. Coppell 2003 Recording I'm not really sure what performance it is from. It's definitely not from the North Texas Championship, because we had made several changes to the show by the end of the season that aren't in this recording. Let's just say...by November we had added some more dynamic contrast...and subtracted a few notes. -
Ray is awesome! Not only is he an amazing teacher, he's a blast! Good for him if he really is spirit's new brass caption head. What a lucky hornline!

BOA El Paso 2007
aggietrumpet327 replied to MissClarinet's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
Hopefully we'll see some of the West Texas bands, and probably some from New Mexico, Arizona, and Colorado. With the Flagstaff regional, the Southern California regional, and this new El Paso regional, the bands in the southwest have a lot more options than they've had before. -
BOA El Paso 2007
aggietrumpet327 replied to MissClarinet's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
Given that the El Paso Regional is on the same day as the Arlington Regional, I doubt any of the bands from Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, Houston, etc will make the trip out to El Paso. The only ones that could probably make that trip in under 10 hours are the San Antonio bands, but the drive up to Arlington is still a couple hours shorter. -
so close! I can't believe they were one vote away from passing electronics. Something about electronics in drum corps just doesn't feel right to me. But it looks like even though it didn't pass this year, it's only a matter of time. And I have mixed feelings about the new 150 member limit. I guess we'll see how it turns out in 08.

Phantom 89 closer. listen closely. I find it kind of ironic. I would have yelled, "Judges, are you LISTENING"

sorry i meant to put in a disclaimer. This was just the preliminary round of voting. The Board of Directors still has to vote tomorrow. It's still interesting to see how the directors voted.

wrong. Now, I LOVE Phantom 89, it was absolutely incredible. Another year, and Phantom probably would have won, but there was a better corps that night. There was a reason the judges gave out the highest score in DCI history, which remained untouched for 13 years.

Blast
aggietrumpet327 replied to ClarinetGlissandoInBlue's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
I saw it in summer of...02, i think? Right after they finished taking Broadway by storm and they were doing their first national tour. It's one of those things that you just have to experience first hand; the DVD's really don't do it a lot of justice (Kind of like drum corps itself. The recordings are great but just can't beat a live show). If I'm not completely imagining things, i think a while back they used to show it on PBS fairly often. blast! website -
First day of classes for the semester tomorrow. What a nice extra looong winter break!

Marche Militaire is one of my favorite marches. I love the trumpet fanfare at the end. And I knooow I've played the Kabalevsky before, and I know I really enjoyed it, but I can't remember when... Oh well. -
A Russian Christmas with the 1987 Santa Clara Vanguard man, I love that show. They only have video of the opener up, but hey, that's better than nothing!

Performing Arts Center
aggietrumpet327 replied to bossman's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
At TAMU, we have the Rudder Theatre Complex yeah, it's not so pretty on the outside...actually it's not too glamorous on the inside, either. But, for having no music or fine arts school, they're pretty nice facilities. There's a 2500-seat auditorium and a 750-seat theater, and we have performances in either one depending on the occasion. -
Cavaliers reveal 2007 program concept

I remember when they announced their 007 show. LOTS of people were skeptical. But that turned out to be IMO one of the best shows they've ever done. I'm interested to see what they'll do with this. -
I think the call you're talking about was the pass interference call on sweed? CLEARLY, it was a good call by the refs. And overall A&M had 10 penalties for 91 yards; Texas had only 3 and 26 yards. Considering A&M lost more than three times the yardage in penalties than UT, I think it'd be a stretch to say the refs were being overly kind to them. The Longhorns didn't have their best game, and the Aggies had the best one they've had under coach fran. I don't think luck had anything to do with it.

Coalition for getting Crown a New Uniform
aggietrumpet327 replied to Tnilli's topic in Drum Corps Forum
you know, I used to be kinda like you. I couldn't stand them. But they've kinda grown on me. Especially this year when they added those giant purple plumes, which added a lot of color and contrast out there on the field. Now the white shoes and white gloves with the cream uniforms...yuck
