  1. http://public.tableausoftware.com/views/BandsofAmericaFinalBreakout/BOAScorecard?:embed=y&:display_count=no If you click the bottom right chart it will highlight the bands. I thought it would be interesting to see visual vs music just to see where everyone landed without the GE aspect. (hint top right is where you want to be!) Interesting to see where all the clusters of talent are as well.
  2. I think the early time hurt woodlands in prelims. Just a thought.
  3. http://www.roundrockisd.org/UserFiles/Servers/Server_32715/File/Board%20Meetings/2008-2009/0407/04-03-09_2009_Boundary_Committee_Report.pdf I just want to say that cedar ridge has done wonderful things compared to where they started. If you look at where they came from, yes....less than 10% of their population did come from round rock but the majority came from the 'east side' of round rock ie - stoney point which has never been a major force in marching. The directors at cedar ridge came in with a huge vision and have pushed those kids with a vengeance. Those kids will live and die for that band program. They eat, sleep and dream marching. I remember my son in the director's office and I was talking to him about something else and a metronome was turned on. My son started marching automatically. The director was like the evil dictator in a play Yeeeeees my pretttttyyyy. MARCH! It was crazy. They have these kids really working their hearts out for the director. Either way I just want to say, these kids and the directors had an uphill battle and fought their way up. I honestly believe a LOT of the credit goes to the directors. Our kids at cedar ridge can play. You can see that from how many go to region music each year but that is a LOT because of the heart and soul put into this program by the directors Mr. Mark Calima and Mr. Ryan Brittain. They have built this program from the ground up and they have really achieved great things. They have had several students place individually in state and their show this year collectively has a really good shot at placing at a national level. Round Rock as a community will be well represented with Round Rock High school as well as Cedar Ridge high school - fully represented! I really think they can both make finals. I love both of their shows. I just wanted to post because I really don't think Cedar Ridge's story is like other schools that split from an established band. I really feel these directors built from the ground up and worked for it. I have a freshman and a sophomore in the band and as well as a middle school child up and coming and I am SO excited to see where this team goes. Congrats Cedar Ridge! Whatever you do from here on - you have played wonderfully this year and have a great shot at grand nationals. As parents, we are all proud of you!
  4. I was able to see Cedar Ridge and Round Rock both perform their (full?) shows on Monday. They both gave me chills listening and watching. Love the energy and beauty of Cedar Ridge's show this year. Round Rock has a wonderful show - I love the theme. They have an amazing field presence and honestly their show looked so clean for how complex it is! Very pretty. I hope that both bands make finals at San Antonio as well as Indy. I know I will be watching at both
  5. Just fyi yes cedar ridge is still going to Grand Nationals
  6. Predictions list for this event? http://www.texasmarchingclassic.com/modules/regform/index.php?show=1
  7. I believe cedar ridge did very well at the dripping springs drum contest. But no - the battle of the bands wasn't published or passed out since it was the very first football game the group did. The directors chose to not make it a big deal. For BOA Austin, they did really well - there was a lot of competition there. A lot of bands did really well. So did Cedar Ridge. Had their been a finals I'm sure their numbers would have went up but for this early season the numbers were pretty high. It's early season. I watched almost every band there - yes there were some fantastic bands. I think cedar ridge was one of them. Were they the best? Well you can be good without being the best at everything you do and even though I love the cedar ridge show, objectively I wouldn't have ranked them the best, no. That being said I wouldn't have ranked most of the bands where they were. Being that I don't actually 'play' a musical instrument it would be fair to say my viewpoint is 100% GE The way the comment sounded 'were you still doing that at BOA' sounded very belittling however. Not publicising a youtube video isn't the same as not doing well at a competition.
  8. Who is 'the talked about band'? Just curious

  11. I know cedar ridge was shocked as well - I honestly don't understand it personally. Those of us in the crowd had felt it was one of their best performances ever. They had cleaned up a whole lot in the last month and even in the last few weeks. Either way, I'm very proud of the kids and what they did accomplish this year.
  12. Well I am new to this, so what I like obviously isn't the 'right' thing so sayth the scores. I found the bowie show boring - they have props but the props make no sense to me. My favorite show this year was Claudia and Reagan. I LOVE the snake charmers in the Reagan show and loved the soloists in the claudia show. I like shows that hold their theme but march to the theme. Some shows seem to have a title and a theme with props but the props seem to have nothing to do with their marching or what they are playing. I hope this year's cedar ridge show hasn't spoiled me - I hope the next 4 years are just as fantastic
  13. I am sure many bands and band members are broken hearted over last night's show. Cedar Ridge was really hoping that this year with their first year of seniors they would make it to state. It was hard on their now senior class to basically pull themselves up by their bootstraps and lead as sophomores. Either way - state will be a great competition and I know many of the rest will be looking forward to BOA. I hope to see round rock in the finals there as well!
  14. I hope cedar ridge does the same. I don't understand what the judges saw - there seemed to be some serious inconsistencies with tonight. I'm new to this, but I really seem to prefer BOA judging.
  15. Link? I can't find a video of them anywhere!
