Definitely did not forget about Euless Trinity. Placing 11th in the tough Area D Contest last year certainly says a lot about that program. Here's my super early analysis for this contest: I truly believe that this Regional contest is Dripping Springs' to lose. It's very hard seeing anyone else top them at this competition. Of course, there are several bands attending that definitely can "upset" and beat them but it seems kind of inconceivable, especially on a State Year. Time will tell. Following Dripping Springs, I believe Sharyland Pioneer or Del Rio are capable runner-ups. State Year for Sharyland Pioneer and I'm sure they'll put out a spectacular show out on the field this coming season. This is the same band that came in second at the 2016 McAllen Regional only to Austin James Bowie. Del Rio's 2016 show was fantastic and I think that'lll continue onto this year. They have a great sound. Brownsville Hanna and SA Madison round up my Top Five and locks for finals. Both these bands have a good ensemble sound and can play loud and strong. Finalists Contenders: Roma, Edinburg Vela, Sharyland, Brownsville Lopez, Hidalgo Dark Horses: Edinburg North, Edinburg, Harlingen South, Grulla This is my Pre-Season Prediction. It is subject to change as the season initiates and unfolds. Thoughts?

So basically - if you're a quote on quote good band it shouldn't affect your score, right? It mostly impacts those bands that are on the bubble?

Does performance order impact the placement of a band? For example, if a band is first to perform would it affect their overall result? I thought judges scored the band's performance right then and there - or do they do that at the very end? Thanks for any regards!

I saw Little Cypress-Mauriceville's performance just earlier today and was honestly very impressed! They have certainly improved a ton since 2014 when they made State. They sound very loud and strong. They'll do extremely well.

This seems like a very legitimate finalist list, and it'll more than likely end up looking something like that. Have you seen any of their shows? I haven't seen all of those bands you mentioned, for example, Springtown, Fredericksburg, or Atlanta. I've seen the rest though. Some bands that could be in the mix are Kennedale (they finished strong in 2014 in 5th place.) I haven't seen their show though so I can't speak on them too much. I'm sure they're doing well. Melissa and Canton making finals wouldn't surprise me either. Melissa has a very smooth and clean sound as always. Beautiful show. They've beat Wills Point and came right behind Canton at competitions this year. Canton sounds very strong and big. As of right now from what I've seen I think that the top tier bands this year so far are Argyle, North Lamar, Burnet, and, surprisingly, Hidalgo. I think Hidalgo will catch a lot of people off guard. I saw them at BOA McAllen and their sound was almost impeccable. Great marching and a fantastically executed performance. I liked everything about that group. Burnet is also very powerful this year. They have some huge moments throughout their show, very pretty music too. I think Area D just got much more interesting with the addition of Fredericksburg. They'll be with the likes of Burnet, Kennedale, Springtown, China Spring, and Robinson just to name a few. Down at Area E I think Hidalgo should be able to win their Area this year. Right behind them comes Port Isabel - always a big threat for that Area. They have lots of great music in their show this year. Kingsville King, Pearsall, Grulla, Rio Hondo look very good this year, too. MY FINALISTS (I will update as we get closer to State, some are based strictly on scores that I've seen from contests.) FINALIST LOCKS: Argyle, Burnet, Hidalgo, North Lamar, Springtown. POTENTIAL FINALISTS: Atlanta, Canton, Fredericksburg, Grulla, Kennedale, Melissa, Port Isabel, Princeton, Wills Point.
