I don't think any band will have their whole show on the field this coming weekend. Even those who may put what they think are all the movements will have drastic changes before the UIL/BOA SA/GN competitions. I almost love that part of this more in seeing how the shows evolve over the month and how much different than are from when we first saw them! P.S. it's easier to edit down complexity than to add, so from what you describe, your band will be in good shape as the month progresses.

Knowing how it was back in my day, and also knowing how it was just 10-15 years ago when my nieces and nephews marched, it's definitely way softer in how they are treated and talked to. 🙂 Not saying it's wrong, but Directors are walking on egg shells on what they can say as all it takes is one kid and set of parents to get mad and raise heck with the district. Either way and regardless of what may or may not be true., good luck to all bands this coming weekend. Excited to see some new shows and see how some of the ones who performed this weekend build on it. Also remember that less than 1% of each bands parents/students are represented on this forum, so nobody should ever take what one or two or three or etc. parents/members say and use it as a reflection of the band or program. I was part of a band that was at the North Houston BOA and we had amazing discussions with so many parents/volunteers from so many bands. Not one bad experience or bad vibe at all. Let's keep it that way!

I believe your 2023 is taken steictly from Pre-lims and does not show finals for the bands who made it. Cy-Fair 3rd, Pearland 4th, woods 9th, 7L 10th, etc.

Yeah, and realistically there's no reason not to. Not sure why after prelims it's so important to hide the results from everyone. I know they say it may impact the kids but many of the directors tell the kids anyway.

All the directors and people in the know get the scores. Many of them will share with other friends in the music community. So that's how quick summaries go out and eventually a copy of the page will go out. Theoretically they aren't formally released to the public until after finals.

Wow, Cedar Park, love how this show has progressed all year. The soloists are amazing, especially the euphonium player! Really going to be a hard fought and well earned victory for whomever makes finals and gets the top placements!

I haven't seen a lot of the 5A bands before today aside from a couple, but wow! Super impressed and have enjoyed their shows!

They are a great band too....so lets cheer for 3 to make it!!!! disrupt the norm!

Cy-Fair was only 1 point behind them at Area based on a music judge difference. So here's to hoping you're spot on and Cypress Fairbanks gets two bands in Finals! That would be a huge accomplishment for the district!

Not sure I agree with the comment on 7L has a harder show, but glad they are playing better and it's coming around for them.

It's not just this stream. All streams ( I was enjoying the Tennessee Comp) are cut off and I keep getting kicked off. Box5 had a year to make this better and they did nothing.

I missed the Coats part. for some reason I read it as Colts...makes a lot more sense now! haha.

Ooohhh..had no clue about that. Appreciate the share. And here's my one gripe with their show which may have been because of cloudy air and a very very very close camera. I think a lot gets lost in the red on red (uniforms and props). I'm hoping they fix some of the staging to spread it out and maybe rethink some of that as the year goes on.

I'm wondering if the sounds come differently based on what device you are listening on. I didn't get a blasty tone from Phantom (will listen again tonight) and thought they had a fuller sound overall. I think the preference for the show makes a difference also as I liked Phantoms show way more than Stars. But the good thing is last year I hated the Blue Coats for the 1st half of the season, tolerated them in the weeks leading up to worlds, and loved what they put on the field for finals. I'm thinking the Stars may have a similar type show where it gets better and better as they add more and more stuff and clean it up. I still don't love some of the music but again, that could easily be because little things are missing. Either way, I was impressed with the quality last night for the first show from all 4, definitely going to make for a fun summer and probably more placement movement this year then in years past.

I would pick a hotel on the loop and either drive in or uber in. Hotels on the riverwalk are just insanely priced for the quality you get. The dome isn't in the best area (gotten worse the last few years) but it is close to the riverwalk access so any hotel near the riverwalk would work for you. If you are going Friday, try to look up where some of the corps are staying. You can see some awesome practices and behind the scenes by doing that.

No Cy-Fair at this years BOA San Antonio. Just too expensive so they will stick to their every other year schedule for now.

Good thoughts, but it's hard to say Cy-fair peaked early last year when they got first at area. They just happened to put their 2 worst shows for the 2nd half of their season together for BOA San Antonio and State. They do need to figure out how to amp up the improvement in their show through the year. Hard to believe they beat Pearland 2x early on and by end of year were a good 8 pts behind them. Woods had a down year for them early on but really brought it at BOA and State. I think this year is going to be super competitive and hopefully all the Cypress Fairbanks schools keep improving.

Add American Fork too. They may not be top 5 but they are a darn fun band to watch and would be interesting to see where they would stack up to the rest of Texas.

Brutal may be the biggest understatement of the year!!! 🙂 It's a miracle to just make finals in some of the competitions anymore!!!!! And many of the bands making finals are less than 10 years old and more are popping up...holy #$@! it's just gonna get worse in Texas!!!! Which is code for it's just gonna be amazing to see sooooo many more quality bands and competitions!
