  1. I will stick to my prediction of Cedar Park, Friendswood, and Vista Ridge in some order as medalists, though I need to watch more videos and look at other possible finalists who could take one of the medal spots.
  2. Let's post some videos/links so we can really get the predictions rolling!
  3. I am not from Friendswood, nor do I live there. I was just trying to be diplomatic. I was just say it flat out: I think Friendswood has and will execute their show better than Dawson at the State Contest.
  4. Area F: Friendswood, Dawson, Tomball Memorial, Barbers Hill
  5. I would argue that Friendswood's music is harder than Dawson's. I do think your argument is slightly biased since Friendswood has more room for improvement in the category of music. However, I never counted out Dawson as a contender for top 5.
  6. Nope, I was not. I gave my opinion on how the state contest will turn out; there is no need to be snarky. Don't take your bitterness that Leander didn't make it out on me.
  7. Yes, I definitely think Friendswood could medal. I would lean towards 2-3, but one does not know that for certain. After all, Vista Ridge did beat Cedar Park at Area D.
  8. I'll give it a try. This is really, really hard. Gold: Cedar Park HS (Area D) Silver: Friendswood HS (Area F) Bronze: Vista Ridge HS (Area D) 4. Vandegrift HS (Area D) 5. Connolly HS (Area D) 6. Waxahachie HS (Area C) 7. Dawson HS (Area F) 8. Lake Ridge HS (Area B ) 9. Wakeland HS (Area B ) 10. Sherman HS (Area C)
  9. Predictions for Area F schools at state? I think Friendswood in top 5, Dawson in top 10, Tomball Memorial 11-15, and Barber's Hill 16+
  10. Where would you place other bands from Texas at this BOA event, for speculation's sake?
  11. The state qualifiers were: Friendswood Dawson Tomball Memorial Barbers Hill
  12. Edit: The bands advancing to state (in no particular order) from Area F are Friendswood, Dawson, Tomball Memorial, and Barbers Hill.
  13. Frisco Centennial, Hays, Legacy, and Birdville are already out. Ouch!
  14. Wow, I am really surprised that Centennial did not make it to state, especially considering they were the bronze medalist in 2011...
  15. RHCS, I have been pretty vocal about Friendswood this year. I think the key for Friendswood is the cleanliness of the music. Right now, and especially with the UIL judging sheet, music is the weak point of Friendswood's show. If they can get their music clean, Friendswood will not only be a medal contender, but in my opinion, also a contender for the state championship. Also, it seems like you are a student at Friendswood. If that's the case, best of luck!
  16. Yes, I think this year will turn out to be the best 4A marching contest of all time. In my opinion, 2011's contest is currently the best as far as talent is concerned. I think the bands this year will take the contest to the next level, with the top 5 being unprecedentedly close.
  17. Area F Predictions: Advancing to State: 1. Friendswood HS 2. Tomball Memorial HS 3. Dawson HS 4. Huntsville HS (Military!) On the Bubble: Willis HS, Galena Park HS (Advanced in 2009), Vidor HS
  18. I will continue on takigan's last thought. There are three music aptitudes that cannot be learned: pitch discrimination, rhythm discrimination, and pitch memory. A person who has all three of these aptitudes will be able to learn music very quickly; a person with one or none of the aptitudes will struggle with music. Aptitudes are innate talents, and one cannot just practice to improve them. I am glad you have such a love of music, good luck, and keep fighting!
  19. I'm a big believer in Friendswood this year. I'm not sure why as I'm not from there, and I honestly have not paid much attention to them up until this year. Their music and visual design are difficult, but not so difficult that they won't be clean by state. That said, here is my very early guess at state top 5: 1. Cedar Park HS 2. Friendswood HS 3. Dripping Springs HS 4. Leander HS 5. Vandegrift HS
  20. I completely disagree with the above comments. For the reasons y'all described, I do not think anyone counts Dripping Springs out. If anything, it is almost assumed that Dripping Springs will be clean. Abbie, I watched a video of Leander and thought it was a great show. Difficult, but executed very well.
  21. After the first few contests, I think the medal contenders are Cedar Park, Friendswood, Dripping Springs, and Leander, in that order. But a lot can (and will) change between now and state.
  22. This year's 4A state contest is going to be very, very close. I am excited to see how it turns out. I am hoping to get to watch it live in San Antonio.
  23. I was not at the contest, but I did see the video of Friendswood's performance. Wow, their execution and show design are great this year! The third movement is very difficult, but the students pull it off very well. I think the big question moving forward is how good Friendswood can get their music. There are a few rough spots right now, but they will contend for the gold medal this year. Congratulations to the finalists and all of the rest who performed!
  24. Lone Star Preview Prelims: 10th - Westfield 9th - Klein Oak 8th - Clear Creek 7th - Brazoswood 6th - Cy-fair 5th - Stephen F. Austin 4th - Dawson 3rd - Seven Lakes 2nd - Spring 1st - Friendswood *From the Live Blog*
