  1. I'm not sure why you would be surprised by DS finishing ahead of CP, nor am I sure why you would expect that result to change at State Finals. CP and the all the bands in the LISD are great programs. But there are great programs outside the LISD with substantial and significant achievements, history and tradition, not to mention the state hardware to back it up. CP and DS are both GREAT programs that have been among the elite not only in Area D but the State of Texas for years. DS was very strong and clean at Area. No question CP will continue to improve, but if DS continues to refine and clean their show, I think the coronation will have to wait.
  2. I'm hearing on pretty good authority that D will postpone (take that FWIW from a random hack on a message board).
  3. Not to take anything away from any of the advancing bands; they earned their slots. Looking at the scores, the suggestion that the timing issue is what got DS isn't accurate. Their music placement improved from prelims to finals. It was the marching placement that got them. In the prelims they were 6, 4, 6 music and 1, 5 marching. In finals they were 6, 4, 4 music and 5, 9 marching. That +8 was the largest deviation in marching scores of any finals band and ultimately what kept them out of the mix. I saw seven of the 10 finalists' prelim runs and all the finals including both of DS's runs. Their finals run was IMO markedly cleaner across the board than their morning prelim but maybe I missed something. It would be interesting to know what that judge saw.
  4. Vista Ridge - 1 Cedar Park - 2 Vandegrift - 3 Connally - 4 Leander - 5 Dripping Springs - 6
  5. Finalists in performance order: LBJ Dripping Springs Lehman Connally Rouse Vista Ridge Vandegrift Cedar Park Leander McCallum
  6. Region 26 sent 10 yesterday (Rouse, Elgin, Marble Falls, East View, G'Town, Hutto, Leander, Cedar Park, Vandegrift and Vista Ridge)or am I missing one? Region 8 only sent one band — Waco — to go with the four from Region 12 — Brackenridge, Clemens, Alamo Heights and Seguin. Fifteen bands so far in Area D with Region 18 contest on Tuesday. Wonder if 10 of the 12 from Region 18 get through to give Area D five tickets to state? I think Dripping Springs, Vista Ridge, Vandegrift, & Cedar Park are all easily top 10 in the state with Leander arguably a top 10-12 in state. Would be a travesty for one of those schools to get left out. Edit: Hays from Region 18 is IMO a top 20 band as well so at least one deserving band and maybe even two won't advance which really stinks. Area D is just brutal.
