  1. This judging staff is amazing! Well done Duncanville ISD for this very impressive line up. Several top contenders at the area, state, and nation level.
  2. I honestly think Duncanville will be a HUGE prediction of SA. Hebron and Marcus will battle it out once again, Richland will be there along with Flo Mo, Plano East, Richland, and so many more. I would say it'll have at least half the finalists. I just wish the 3 state medalists from last year could battle it out more than once before SA this year but Bell just had different contest choices. It'll make the dome so much more of a contest.
  3. Oh wow I'm sorry. Didn't mean to go on the rant without looking that up.
  4. Don't mean to be picky with facts but I figured as an LISD alum I'm gonna help you out. LISD is all area B up here in North Dallas. There are 5 high schools in LISD, 4 of which are 4A (Hebron, Marcus, the up and rising Flower Mound, and the lesser known Lewisville) and the last is a 4A school The Colony high school. The Colony was an excellent band in the late 90's and 2000 but with the school splitting with Hebron being formed the program died down. This year is their first year with Director of Bands Luis Saldana who taught as the assistant director of bands at Hebron for 8 years. I have high hopes for him as he takes on this new program and with any luck LISD with have the 4A and 5A state champion
  5. If you're seen practicing around like the band hall then I would say its probably an upperclassmen arrogance problem. I don't know what school you go to but I went to Hebron and I was second to last chair my freshman year out of a 16 person horn section. Over my high school career it got bigger and actually I never ended up in the top band at all. But I proved my worth and was the principle of the middle band my senior year and I came to terms with it and actually had alot of fun. I'm not a music major anymore but if you're pursuing music (which btw you seem to have an amazing attitude for it) chair tests and things like that don't really matter. Its all about your drive and passion. Try more of an emotional approach to music also. Feel what you play and try to have fun with it. You might find practicing more enjoyable if you're loving what you play.
  6. It was the first contest of the season, most bands don't have their full shows up or have them to full speed. I wouldn't get too... cocky? That being said congrats to The Woodlands.
  7. I understand where you're coming from with a "usual" band missing finals. (Hebron BOA SA 2011) Usually though you see it in the early season unusually low scores. Like this example Hebron was 10th at Arlington but the acutal score was WAY lower than 9th and they continued to score low throughout the season. The numbers don't lie!
  8. With all do respect its never a good idea to judge a show on a video and especially a bad one. I would say go by a week by week basis. There are a few more Hebron videos that I know of (can't say I haven't looked for others being a Hebron alum). However like its been previously said the video itself is from Conroe and different bands progress at different rates. I'd just try to compare scores and watch high quality videos so you can make better judgments. This is a great year!
