  1. Former Band Kid/Fellow Addict (lol) RL Name - Danny Poteet HS Grad '17, Trombone Genesis DBC '17, Euphonium TAMUC Marching Band '17-'18, Trombone
  2. 2018 - 7 TX Competitions2017 - 6 TX Competitions 2016/15 - 5 TX Competitions 2014/13 - 4 TX Competitions 2012 - 3 TX Competitions Before then it jumped between 3 or 4 competitions depending on the year for at least a decade. Despite 7 of them this past season, it's not as oversaturated as I originally thought, as 5 of them were all on or before the first weekend of October, opening up the next 4 weekends. McAllen and Midland also help those lesser known bands get better, and they along with Austin and early in the season. I feel like Waco is really the BOA contest that oversaturated Texas. Probably the best positioned and best one, but local contests could never compete with it's caliber.
  3. Similar story actually, my sophomore year I had this move where I had to roll on the floor, kinda like a guard type of roll. I was never any good at it, and at HEB prelims I took my shoe off partly while doing the move. I tried to put in back on but only managed to slip it on, basically squishing the back part of my shoe. I managed to keep it on for a couple minutes, but then I started to march backwards. That's when it fell off and for the last minute or so marched with only one shoe lolSame thing as you where I was told almost every performance till I graduated to not lose my shoe Also, a parent took a photo of it on the field, and it's been on my director's wall ever since
  4. Adding an extra regional would likely end most local marching competitions
  5. No offense, but you really think McKinney North has a better chance of making State Finals than Friendswood? I don't know about that one chief
  6. I'm assuming they're 6A for all sports? Maybe the band will stay in 5A, Naaman Forest did that back in 2017 I believe
  7. I'm guessing he meant to say more of the band are freshmen and sophomores than usual
  8. Even though I want them to come back strong, I feel like they won't be the clear winner anymore. Feel like one or two more schools other than Dripping Springs could give them a run for their money at State this round.
  9. What exactly do you wanna know?Just for starters, they're a relatively new high school from DFW, being opened in 2000. The head director has been there since the beginning, but stepped aside and let an assistant director take the reigns for marching band in 2017. If I remember right, they weren't even close to making Area C Finals in 2016, so the change he brought was VERY drastic. I definitely think they could be a sleeper for BOA. And I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see them be a consistent BOA Regional finalist in the future if the assistant director/marching band director doesn't leave.
  10. Yeah, North Mesquite can never seem to catch a break :/ They've been a really good band for awhile now, always felt like they needed to compete in BOA though in order to take it to the next level Fingers crossed that Horn and North get to go together as originally planned. North Mesquite has the weekend of BOA SA as "TBD", hopefully they make that trip with Horn as well.
  11. Never said they should have been on the list, more of a marching band trivia statement
  12. Honestly forgot about 2016, but had they gone that would've been 6 consecutive trips, that still wouldn't be one of the longer active streaks?
  13. I knew Dickinson had a long streak but not that long, wow.
  14. Someone here is bound to know the link that has all that information lol If I'm not mistaken, CP has been to state every time since 2001 when they won the 4A (now 5A), championship, making their appearances 9. Friendswood should be more than 10 as they've been made State every year since I believe the 90s. Roma should be more than 8 consecutive appearances but don't quote me on that. Poteet has *qualified* for State 15 consecutive times, but were prohibited from actually participating in 2011 due to a "member" of the band failing classes but still participating in UIL Region. Summed up, these programs have been some of the most consistent in the 5A (old 4A) SMBC, as has Princeton in the 4A (old 3A) conferences. If I missed anyone or got some information wrong please correct me. As far as 6A, Duncanville, Reagan, The Woodlands, Marcus, and CTJ hold some of the longest active streaks. Duncanville holds the longest. Good luck this upcoming season btw!
  15. I play Texas, Our Texas with the marching band at TAMU-Commerce (East Texas State), and it's on my Top 10 of songs I never want to play again lol
  16. Take him to an Area contest!
  17. You sure that number doesn't include choir and orchestra? Cause I found a picture where only 19 band kids made Region (still a good size, just not 67 lol)
  18. 67... I honestly have no words.
  19. Canton is actually in a completely different area from those cities lol (Not a sarcastic lol)
  20. Complacency, sorry not sorry. Never been the type to accept that type of mentality. No hard feelings.
  21. To be completely honest, I feel like the people saying to "move on" are part of the reason why it hasn't changed. It's not until you're one of the students that gets affected by this that you care to voice for change. Whether it be by better training, more judges, a better system, literally anything to help. Y'all simply let this happen year after year because "that's how the dice roll". I call that being complacent. Bands shouldn't have a 20-something point spread in their ordinal scores unless their marching/music was just so much worse than the other. How is that something that's logical to y'all? And then the "we're not the judges" argument. So every judge is fair, unbiased, and doesn't hold a grudge against bands or their directors? Please. With that argument we should never question politicians because all of them know what's best for us and never do any wrong. I apologize for not wording my previous post the way I should have, about the cape. I meant that the cape was one of the reasons RR was scored lower, not the sole reason. Obviously that would be absurd. I'm not trying to send a message that most of the judges are corrupt and should be prevented from ever judging again. We can all see that most are great at their jobs. And even the bad apples tend to have consistent scores with other bands. But some bands have one judge that just does not like them for one reason or another. I don't know what the best solution is, I don't even know if my ideas would actually be good ideas in the end, but something NEEDS to be changed. Training, rubrics, a panel that investigates such things. Literaly anything to let the marching band community know that their concerns are being heard and addressed.
  22. How does a shadow work exactly? I feel like they would get in the way a lot when marching.
  23. I like the idea, but feel like the judges might lie about why they scored them so much lower. But then again, the judges might know that they can't screw anyone over or else be questioned, therefore scoring fairly. I've also always been in favor of investigating judges for stuff like this. You can't tell me every single judge is an angel.
  24. A friend told me the judge placed them so low because he "couldn't see their legs" due to the hip cape. Whatever makes him feel better for scoring them so low I guess.
