  1. I don't think it's the UIL judging system that is as bad as the judges themselves. Judges who obviously put other aspects into their judging other than how well it was performed (and personally I feel like difficulty should be a small factor) should be under a list of people who can't judge UIL period. There are judges in UIL that very obviously love the idea of incorporating a theme and using props with your show, well news flash guys, not every band does that. Some just march and play the heck out of their show, others use visual aspects to help their GE and Visual scores in BOA and other competitions. A 4 spot difference in a bands placement is the border of normal and suspicious, 5 and higher is just crazy at that point. You could argue that the judge might have noticed different things which could be possible, but once it's practically every other band they're definitely not fit to judge UIL.
  2. Yea, he was a sub judge supposedly, don't know where he's from though. He had a few bands that made Top 6 not even in the Top 10 in Prelims, like Richland for example. Of course it's only Visual and not something like Music but that big of a margin is just really fishy
  3. Both prelims and finals results would've looked much different, there was one judge who clearly wasn't agreeing with the rest of them in the scores. He was disagreeing with geniuses like Dr. Shine from Duncanville and Scott Coulson from Poteet (both retired) by 4+ margins.
  4. I think everyone familiar with the area and the bands that perform here were really hoping for 25 bands, but unfortuntely it didn't happen. Back in 2012 there was a notable difference in the scoring from North Mesquite and the other 4 State Contenders (Berkner, Rowlett, Coppell, and Duncanville) if I remember corectly. Fast forward to now, the amount of improvement by North is tremendous. As a result, 1 band that is definitely a State-Caliber band will not get to attend this year IMHO, best of luck to everyone in Area and Go Stallions! As for my opinions on Finals Results: *Know nothing about their season so far/have not seen show/both 1) Berkner 2) Rowlett 3) Coppell* 4) North Mesquite 5) Duncanville* 6) Lake Highlands 7) Highland Park 8) Midlothian* 9) JJ Pearce 10) John Horn Bands that could also take Finalist spots: -Sachse -Garland -Lakeview Centennial -Mesquite
  5. Is there an Azle in 4A (old 3A) or did they move down a classification? Or is it just an honest mistake?
  6. They were saying "Our band's better!" when we went onto the field to perform. They weren't saying that their band was better than their own team, but instead trying to put us down. But like I said, I'm pretty sure the band had nothing to do with it.
  7. Agree with Baredex, of course these bands are still very good, but it's pretty much a fact now that having props will bump you up a bit in contests. What really grinds my gears though is bands who only have their winds play about half of the show and the other half doing visuals or moving with the props. Like I get that marching band is changing but when you have that much time to catch your breath the band is obviously gonna be a lot more energized to play when they start again compared to other bands. Really unfair. *Not trying to start an argument and I won't b/c I know it'll probably lead to this forum getting locked too. Message me if you have something to say about my post instead of us starting a full out argument*
  8. I see North Mesquite in Top 5, they are definitely going to State this year. The amount of improvement they've made the past 3 years is phenomenal!
  9. Anyone know which Bowie it is?
  10. Coppell? If so all I know is that y'all got a 1. Forney got Best Overall and other captions, anyone else know more?
  11. Ugh, just what everyone needs, more competition haha. But good luck to Highland Park on the rest of their season!
  12. Is Highland Park just getting better or was it not the best day for Forney, Boswell, and Birdville?
  13. Had a similar thing happen to us last year. We faced Wakeland and the student section including other people were yelling "Our band's better!". I'm sure the band had nothing to do with it, just immature kids acting up. Luckily for us we had the last laugh after winning the game
  14. If I remember correctly, Summit and Poteet are going too
  15. So I know it's still way too soon to make more accurate predictions but just seeing what everyone's opinions are. My prediction: Someone finally takes the crown from Marcus as a first time State Champion and it'll be someone who didn't participate in GN's. No hate on Marcus, they're obviously a great band, but just a prediction.
  16. Still not used to the new classifications, haha, but thanks for the link and info
  17. Anyone know full results?
  18. Saturday, 10/18 --Wylie Marching Invitational – Wylie HS Stadium – Wylie, TX Monday, 10/27 --North Texas Marching Invitational – Birdville ISD Stadium – Birdville, TX
  19. The title might not even be proper English but it's the end of the school year so cut me some slack But pretty self-explanatory, I'll try to make a list if multiple bands are listed for one competition.
  20. I know it's been a while since State Competition already, but I just wanted to know what some of y'alls favorite shows were. Just state why it was your favorite like b/c of the music, marching, style, energy etc. This doesn't mean it has to be a finalists band or had to be performed flawlessly, just your favorite one. Please no hating on other schools, these are just opinions.
  21. The fact that UIL doesn't judge on how difficult a show is is kinda ridiculous. I remember seeing a stand band win state, on youtube though. What's so great about marching 3 feet to your next set all the time?
