  1. Am expecting Lake Ridge to be there as well......Area B is loaded again, and whoever comes out of there is going to be tough.
  2. Highland Park had a great performance yesterday. Forney, Boswell and Birdville had excellent performances, but Highland Park was just a little better. They swept all of the class A and B prelim awards. If that is any indication, they should have a great season.
  3. Bands looked great. In the finals, Lake Ridge went over time by almost 30 seconds and was penalized. I guarantee that won't happen again. Without the penalty, Lake Ridge would have finished first. Congratulations Haltom on your outstanding performance, and a special shout out to Mr. Lewis at Haltom. Mr. Lewis was the brass director last year for Lake Ridge when they finished 10th at the state competition and he had a very special relationship with the brass section. It was a sad day when he left, however we wish him continued success at Haltom.
  4. Since I have a son who goes to Lake Ridge, I am not going to comment on them when speaking of other bands. Lake Ridge plays Waxahachie so I did see their show. It is fantastic. Their marching is great and the music is crisp, clean and excellent. The only other bands that I have seen are the other bands from Area B, Newman Smith, Wakeland and Southwest, all who were excellent. Lake Ridge was at Midlothian where they also competed against Forney, but I didn't see the show so I have no opinion, but since they made states I will assume it is also excellent. Any one of these bands can make finals at state, their shows are all excellent in their own styles. It is going to be an experience that the kids will never forget. Can't wait to see the other bands as well, they all have lots of supporters on here. Good luck to all and GO LAKE RIDGE!!!!
  5. Saw the video of Lake Ridge from the Tournament of Champions in this blog. They looked great, but their performance at Area B was so much better and cleaner. Had a hard time understanding what the judges were looking at in Area, the scores were all over the place. Lake Ridge music scores were 1,1 and 9? The marching was 1 and 11? Wakelands music scores were 11, 2, 2? How is it possible that judges can be so far apart on the same performance? If you told me Lake Ridge music was 1,1,5 or Wakeland was 6,2,2 I could understand, but to have 1 judge so far away from the other 2 makes no sense.
  6. Lake Ridge's show was incredible. The amazing thing is the school is only 2 years old and they go to state as the Area B winner. Their show was the talk in the stands by both the parents and the other bands. I guess they would be a dark horse because they are so new, but who knows.
  7. How is it possible that the judges could be so far out of whack regarding a band? As a Lake Ridge supporter I am obviously overjoyed with the results, but the scoring makes no sense. Lake Ridge gets 2 1st places in music then a 9th from the other judge? Then the marching is a 1st and an 11th? Wakeland gets 2 2nd's in music then an 11th from judge 3? Centennial Frisco's music scores are 10, 10, 3? Little Elm, 13, 11, 4? Aledo 4, 11, 12? How could the judges be so out of whack on these scores? I can understand a differene of a few places but it is as if the judges liked certain styles of music and disliked others.
