Actually, I don't think I have ever taught a hornline that didn't have at least 1 person learning brass for the first time. So don't let that hold you back. And right now there are several corps in Texas, and most (I can't speak FOR them), are probably in a position to help someone who is brand new to the instrument who is dedicated to learning and working hard. Of course, at this point in the season, it's important to fill in visual holes, there is still plenty of time to get someone up to speed musically. So if you are interested, then, come check out our forums at http://frontiercorps.forumflash.com/ and meet people, or register for more information at Frontier Drum & Bugle Corps

Still hoping to fill these spots before our next rehearsal on June 17th. Show is hot and completely on the field, just ready for a few more people to jump and learn it with us. Going to be an exciting summer

Frontier is looking for 1 additional Soprano player (lead chops preferred), 1 additional lead baritone, and 1 additional 2nd baritone to fill out the hornline. The corps is also looking to fill the last 2 remaining colorguard positions. Frontier has their entire show on the field, and looking to fill the last few positions before our debut at the Texas Drum Corps Preview Concert in Austin this month. Members in Frontier come from all over the Dallas/Fort Worth area, plus San Antonio, Austin, Amarillo, Far East Texas and Oklahoma. Carpooling is an option from those areas as well. Frontier is looking to fill the last available spots in the corps this weekend. We have openings in the the soprano (trumpet) section, as well as the colorguard. And although the percussion line is full, we will accept another experienced keyboard player. Frontier Drum & Bugle Corps Frontier is weekend-based, so if you have to go to school this summer, need a summer job, or couldn't afford to march with a DCI corps this year, here is your chance to have the drum corps experience for 2006. Frontier is performing in Austin, Houston, Dallas, Minneapolis and Rochester this year and will be returning to World Championships this year. Frontier broke records last year and are on a role this year, will all but 4 minutes left to put on the field. Every section this year is larger, and MUCH improved. So don't miss your chance to jump aboard before the summer starts. for more information contact director@frontiercorps.org or visit our webpage

Marching band judge info
FrontierDirector replied to mdrapkin's topic in TxBands Site Suggestions, Problems, and Questions
Oh, and don't know how long its been since you've been a USSBA judge, but there are several USSBA TX shows now (I am a judge for USSBA and was in VA/NC before moving to TX). Also, if you are interested in staying involved in Drum Corps... there are several in the state, including a new project, called the Austin Stars, starting up in Austin -
A Contra is not a Marching Tuba. The Contrabass Bugle is a horn in the key of G that sits on your shoulder and is closest related to a shoulder tuba. Soprano is a horn in the key of G that is closest resembling a trumpet. They are different instruments, though closely related to band instruments. Some drum corps still use the terms to relate to their Trumpet and Tuba sections, since those are the instruments that replaced these horns in corps that have gone Bb/F instead of G. It's a 'tradition' thing, but they are not the same instruments

Favorite; 1992, without a shadow of a doubt. My first live experience with Vanguard, a tribute to where they've been, and the most emotional show ever (IMHO), and of course not knowing that it would be Royer's last, and it is the show he wanted to end on Shows I can't stop watching: 1999, 1989, 2004, 1988, 1987, 1986, 1985, 1998, 1997, 1991, 1990, 2000

Just a quick reminder, tomorrow is rehearsal. Looking for a few more trumpet (soprano) and Baritone/Trombone players (Baritone)

Frontier Announces 2006 Show
FrontierDirector replied to Frontier Marketing's topic in Drum Corps Forum
We will be continuing to work on Fire Dance and Flamma Flamma this weekend, and there is a possibility we will have Ecstacy this weekend as well. The drumline and horns will be putting Fire Dance together as an ensemble. We are looking for a few more brass (Sopranos - Trumpets; and Baritones - Trombone/Baritones) -
So any of you trumpet or trombone players looking for a place to march this summer, check us out this coming weekend

November sounds right. Most DCI (and a lot of DCA) corps hold their auditions in November/December. Frontier kicks off in January so that everyone can survive the holidays, auditions, exams, etc, and allow those members who are under 21 the chance to audition for a DCI corps first. Last year we had a girl who came to us after not making it at Bluecoats. She marched with us and now is marching lead baritone with Capital Regiment this coming summer. DCA corps can be a great place to get your DCI chops. It won't take as much time or financial commitment, and you can achieve some amazing things.

Drum & Bugle Corps in Dallas, TX
FrontierDirector replied to FrontierDirector's topic in Drum Corps Forum
We marched 2 Cymbals last year, and right now have 5 rehearsing. Auditions for all sections of the corps will be continuing over the next two practices and then contracts will be started. You can audition for open spots anytime in the season, but most spots in the corps will be closing over the next month. Frontier broke records last year, and this year is looking like it will blow year 1 completely out of the water -
Ya never know! I signed

First Auditions are this Saturday -
I am still not a big fan of amplification myself. It is rarely used appropriately from what I have seen in band and corps. I am glad it's not legal in DCA yet
-
I voted for Cavies 00 since my favorites weren't listed 04 would be a close 2nd on this list 1990 just blew me away when I saw it, and 91/89/87 were all very powerful. I love the new drill concepts of the last few Cavalier editions, but I do miss the early 90s/late 80s MUSICAL style

Drum & Bugle Corps in Dallas, TX
FrontierDirector replied to FrontierDirector's topic in Drum Corps Forum
Yeah, we do make some exceptions to the rule. We did have 3 drummers last year that ended up getting sponsored by a staff member. The point is, that Frontier is full of students, band directors, and professional msucians. So someone under 18 is going to have to come prepared and mature. But we do welcome DCI aged members who can't afford to take the summer off to march a DCI corps (School, finances, etc). Actually one of our lead baritones last year is a lead baritone with Capital Regiment this year. She came to us after being cut from Bluecoats last year and gained the experience she needed to make a Division I corps for 06. -
Well Santa Clara Vanguard is the reason I did Drum Corps in the first place, so they are my favorite. Carolina Crown is #2 because that's where I marched Blue Stars are #3 because that's where I first taught. Now if we talked about DCA corps, think that would be obvious
