  1. Ok so there are a few shows that I would reallly like to watch (or listen to), so if yall could help me out it would be great. I can't seem to find them anywhere Bell 2002 Binary Systems (maybe?) and 2003 ConVERGEnce (No clue where the exclamation is) and Akins 2007 Music of Astor Piazolla
  2. Has everyone forgot that Cedar Park brings the top 5A bands heavy competitions? I don't mean to bash 4A, but Cedar Park owns in 5A where the competition is greater. I think they have great potential to be the next 4A dynasty.
  3. I mean I totally missed the first announcement last year lol
  4. I'm so stoked that CTJ is going. I have been a fan of their shows since the beginning and it's nice to see them start to own. I think they'll be/are the new Reagan.
  5. Anyone know what Bell will be whipping out?
  6. Why does everyone always predict Coppell placing in BOA SA finals. It's been YEARS hasn't it? They do well preseason, but their shows always come out more UIL than BOA.
  7. Your spelling is a little horrendous... but I have two concerns in this matter. First: I'm pretty sure most bands don't crawl around or do visuals for 2 minutes. Of course there are exceptions. Second: Maybe it's better to use synths than blasting and breaking reeds? See bands don't rely on the stuff mentioned above to make state... I'm sure if you took out that stuff, they'd still be competitive. It's just added for variety, kinda like people add spices to food.
  8. I was a little sad to see BA barely pull ahead of Bell. All I kept thinking to myself was, "DARN those bikes!"
  9. I'm confused on why you made the Connally and Cy Fall reference... They almost never make BOA SA finals. Sure they're really good bands especially in UIL terms, but are they really good indicators for the top of BOA SA?
  10. Bell may have had a dirtier show than usual, but I think they've had to time to power clean it and I think it'll be amazing Saturday! I'm curious to see how SFA turned out, they started strong, but they've been a little low key. How about CP, I want to see if they can score higher at Gnats, they usually peak around state. I really want to see Churchill in finals!
  11. I think that some of the complaining is because of how the scores are presented. UIL presents which ordinal rankings judges give, while BOA presents a value. What if the UIL judges raw scores were extreme close together, but since the information is present as ordinal, it doesn't show that maybe the judge thought that Coppell's show was excellent but they thought that there were other shows that were a little better. Aren't BOA judges more specific. Like a judge for ensemble sound, individual sound, ensemble marching, individual marching? UIL doesn't have this. We can't say that they need to be trained to think more similarly because they might think similarly, but they happen to notice different discrepancies in the show. I think UIL should stay the same. It adds a little spice to our lives. It's cool to see different bands scoring differently at UIL and BOA.
  12. Bell- Definitely different than their recent shows, but I still loved it. My favorite ending, will the epic music and intense visual design. Johnson- This was definitely their debut to the top of the marching world. Their drill was pretty awesome and the music had an awesome groove. The Woodlands- Loved the beginning. I also really liked their drill and their show was cool all around. Reagan- It's nice to see them back. Loved the dark show. Spring- I don't quite understand the theme of their show, but I loved it especially the ballad. Bowie- I watched their SA finals show and it looked so clean and had nice musical impact. Churchill- I really liked the music especially the solos.
  13. I definitely agree on thinking their show was incredible. (No association) I think it's the best they've put out on the field in terms of execution.
  14. Didn't the same thing happen in 08? They barely made state, but made finals. Just shows how strong Area D is.
  15. This show has my favorite ending! There is plenty of energy then.
  16. Does anyone have this?
  17. You do realize that this forum is just a bunch of people sharing their opinions and that is exactly what we're doing. I don't try to act like I'm a professional. I just comment on things the way they seems to me and I'm sure that is how everyone comments. I still enjoy both shows and I enjoy every marching show that I've seen; however, that doesn't mean I still can't have an opinion of them. If that symphony comment was towards me, you took my opinion WAY too seriously. I was trying to convey the fact that Marcus' music is more prevalent on a concert stage than on the field, not that their music is purely from a symphony.
  18. I think Marcus' peak show was 07. I think that would have been their best year at GNat's. I guess it just comes down to what type of band you prefer. Marcus is about reallly clean difficult music and easy drill. It's like a wind symphony concert on the field. They receive so many compliments for their refined controlled sound. Bell on the other hand focuses on having emotionally intriguing shows and they sacrifice this controlled sound to provide the emotional playing required to utilized their show to the fullest. I happen to like Bell more because they step outside the limits of music and marching to really entertain the audience. Sorry I didn't mean to just those two as an example, but I think it's a perfect contrast.
  19. It's funny that Reagan and Johnson ranked very similarly at Area, BOA, and State
  20. It's probably been said quite a few times, but this site ROCKS! It's nice to see the txlive application and how people who can't make competitions can receive an understanding of what happened. It's also a nice place to discuss opinions on band and different bands.
  21. Bell might not seem as strong as previous years, but I think they're still probably the top threat. Bell's show is different from previous years, but it's still a high quality show. To me their issue seemed like execution, their show looks more difficult than their usual shows in visual terms. I guess we'll just have to see!
  22. It's funny how different scores are after switching the judges.
  23. What happened with Georgetown? I remember them doing really well when I saw them in 2007 at Westlake, but I haven't heard much about them lately.
