  1. The minutes from the MAC Committee Meeting were posted yesterday: https://www.uiltexas.org/files/music/2019_July_MAC_Minutes.pdf All of the proposals and actions items up for vote at the meeting passed. I found this new proposal to be very interesting: "A discussion item was brought forward from the Region 13 band division for UIL to create a Division I and Division II state marching band contest in 6A. This item will be included in the Spring 2020 agenda for all regions to discuss."
  2. Vandegrift High School alumnus; former clarinetist. I'm not a very active poster, but I still occasionally lurk around the forums.

  5. Also, I apologize if the video doesn't show on some of y'all's browsers. I'm having similar issues to what LeanderMomma had, and the video doesn't show on my end.
  6. Vandegrift: I'm no marching contest judge by any means, but they sound scary good for only three days of working on the music. Also, does any recognize the music they are playing? It is definitely a departure from their usual repertoire of "standard classical music" (for lack of better terminology), though to be clear, I love whatever they are playing.
  7. Given that the bands ranked 41st and up in prelims had at least a score of an 80, this is unsurprising. There was some serious score inflation for the scores of the majority of the bands.
  8. Finals Schedule: 7:15 p.m. - Class Champion Exhibition: Weiss H.S., TX 7:30 p.m. - Hendrickson H.S., TX 7:45 p.m. - The Woodlands H.S., TX 8:00 p.m. - James Bowie H.S., TX 8:15 p.m. - Ronald Reagan H.S., TX 8:30 p.m. - Leander H.S., TX 8:45 p.m. - Cedar Ridge H.S., TX 9:00 p.m. - Keller H.S., TX 9:15 p.m. - Cedar Park H.S., TX 9:30 p.m. - Hebron H.S., TX 9:45 p.m. - Marcus H.S., TX 10:00 p.m. - Flower Mound H.S., TX 10:15 p.m. - Avon H.S., IN 10:30 p.m. - Vandegrift H.S., TX 10:45 p.m. - Claudia Taylor Johnson H.S., TX 11:00 p.m. - Class Champion Exhibition: Southwest H.S., TX http://www.musicforall.org/resources/fall-results/2017/san-antonio-super-regional-2017-results
  9. Vandegrift - Rehearsal run-through from this past Wednesday - Show Title: Symphony of Silence
  10. Cedar Park High School: The Steadfast Tin Soldier
  11. Vista Ridge High School: Iditarod - The Last Great Race Glenn High School (Leander): Geometric Sound
  12. Westwood: Bluebird John Paul Stevens: The Woods
  13. James Bowie: "...and then I saw the sky" Rouse: Lotus
  14. Here is Vista Ridge's spring preview:
  15. Per the calendar on their band's website, Vandegrift's band, choir, and dance team (!) will be flying to Hawaii around spring break in 2017, and, as part of their trip, will give a concert at the Battleship USS Missouri. This could mean that Vandegrift will not attend Grand Nationals in the fall of 2017, since the combined costs of doing Grand Nationals and this Hawaii trip within the same year would probably be very high. But I find it really cool that some of Vandegrift's arts programs are specifically heading to Pearl Harbor (which is where the Missouri is docked), given Vandegrift's military namesake and heritage!
  16. Apparently it was music general effect that ultimately kept L. D. Bell out of finals. Total music general effect scores (with overall total scores) from prelims: 14. Cypress Falls - 34.10 (84.55) 15. Cedar Ridge - 33.80 (84.40) 16. L. D. Bell - 32.80 (84.30)
  17. That definitely wasn't the case last year at BOA San Antonio; their original performance time was 9:30 a.m., but they didn't get to perform until around 1:00 p.m because of the heavy rain and a bus breakdown! It was a long day for them, to say the least.
  18. Sherman almost made it into finals. They were 13th in prelims and only 0.25 points behind Kennesaw Mountain (who placed 12th in prelims).
  19. Is it just me, or do the scores that were announced for the bands seem unusually high for this time of year?
  20. And Region 11 goes 9 for 9! There will be 4 spots for advancing to state from Area H.
  21. It is notable that Cedar Park narrowly beat Vandegrift in both prelims and finals at the Texas Marching Classic this past weekend (although Vandegrift still won the music and visual captions in finals). With regards to Vandegrift's possible placement at BOA San Antonio, one indicator will be whether Vandegrift can match Leander's presumably high performance level again when the Area H contest rolls around at the end of this month. As for BOA San Antonio, I'll holding off on any full predictions until after the area contests are done.
  22. Full recaps have now been posted. - Quick Recap (No scores): http://www.texasmarchingclassic.com/modules/fmcontent/content.php?topic=static&id=49&page=2016-tmc-results - Prelims: http://www.texasmarchingclassic.com/uploads/fmcontent/file/2016_TMC_Prelims_Recap.pdf - Finals: http://www.texasmarchingclassic.com/uploads/fmcontent/file/2016_TMC_Finals_Recap.pdf
  23. Lake Travis also got moved out to Area H along with Westlake, Judson, and the Leander ISD schools.
  24. It appears that Connally signed up late enough to where I missed them and didn't include them in the list of bands for the Marching Festival predictions. I apologize for also not including Floresville for the contest's predictions.
