I really can't understand how spelling out the word hate is "too mature" for a high school marching band. For petes sake, even Finding Nemo uses the word hate. Medea is not meant to portray niceness or sweetness, but its still a perfectly legitimate expression of emotion. I guess I'm speaking from the perspective of a high school student, but I don't get what the problem is with wanting to express something different on the field.

[Major Event] UIL State Contest
actualgirltrombone replied to Xenon's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
Sorry if I wasn't clear, that was actually our theme. The way our director explained it to us is that it's just supposed to be awesome. I wasn't trying to hype, and I'm sorry if it seemed that way, but that was actually the theme of the show. -

The Metronome...
actualgirltrombone replied to borchnork's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
We used to actually spray paint all the dots on the field, which was an absolute DISASTER at the first game. Now we just have the 4x4 grid with red dots every 4 steps and yellow in between. It's actually helped a lot. -
Area D Marching Contest
actualgirltrombone replied to !{dRuMlInE}!'s topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
This competition is going to take freaking forever. 32 bands at 15 minutes a band equals 8 hours of just PRELIMS competition, not including breaks or lunch for the judges. Then ten? bands make finals? Anyone who makes finals is gonna be there till like 1 in the morning. -
Personally, I think we deserve a couple park and barks. As far as my count, there are only two where we stand there for any length of time; a hold set for 8 counts or 6 six counts at 180 bpm doesn't exactly count as a "park and bark" in my book. Also, we move at 180 bpm for like 5 minutes. You try to play that loud after having moved that fast and then say we stood still for "like half the show". On a completely different note, Round Rock's show was awesome! It was nice actually getting to see it, and it sounded really good. It seems like Round Rock's been eating their Wheaties this year. =) I think they're gunnin for State.

Vista won?! WOW! YAY LISD FOOTBALL BOYS! =D

I'm really glad it was just a few rogue students, although over here at CP the facebook group mostly made us LOL. By the way, how is that kid who had his finger chopped off? We heard about that through said group. =) Anyway, hopefully good sportsmanship will be the name of the game this year! I'm really looking forward to seeing yall's show!

we had the woodwinds listen to the brass play the first impact today and it scared the living crap out of them. its not even LOUD yet! i mean, its loud, but its not LOUD =) we've learned the first thirteen pages of the opener, but only marching and no music. i think music goes on next week. i'm extremely excited.

So I know it's only been like one or two days of band for most of us, but how does everyone think its going so far? Freshmen any good? Show as awesome as you'd hoped? Marching technique going okay? Personally, I'm SUPER DE DUPER excited. We're taking the met off and cranking tempos immediatly, which will only help in the future. Also, all the unmotivated people quit, which will only help.

Well, It's that time of the year...
actualgirltrombone replied to chickora's topic in General Off-Topic
IDK about the rest of you but even people who are in shape can't generally take running around the field at an average of 180 bpm for 6 out of 8 minutes while playing loudly and holding a horn without at least a little complaining =) -
Corps "stealing" from HS bands
actualgirltrombone replied to actualgirltrombone's topic in Drum Corps Forum
I'm not saying its a bad thing! I think its great that bands and corps both use each other for inspiration. I'll also fully admit that our show next year (the music selections at least) are "stolen" from different corps by way of SFA. I just think its an interesting phenemonon that corps, which most people consider elite, sometimes take concepts from high school bands, and I wanted to know if there were any more examples of this. Also, there's a reason stealing was in quotes. I know its not actually STEALING, but when you see almost the exact same move made in almost the exact same way, it does bring to mind the thought that it might not be entirely original. -
So, has anyone else seen any examples of this? The two ones that I can think of right now is the Cadets taking Cedar Park's winking smilie face and Cavaliers 95 taking the awesome ripple move from Spring 93. Anyone else got anything?
-
Thanks for noting that the last set of the Cadets was straight up stolen from CP. It was kind of flattering, but we were still like WHAAAAAAAT? Also, although it may look kid-ish, the drill that goes into the winking is not for children.

So, person from McNeil, yall have nothing to worry about football wise. Poor VR wasn't even doing too well in their 4A district (although admittedly with Lake Travis and such), so I wouldn't worry too much about having the worst football program. Now BAND, on the other hand, I am excited to the maxxxxx to see from VR. =D

I think a wiki might work, but the current directory just doesnt do anything. There's so many bands that aren't on there, and honestly if you want to look up a band there is google, or even the people on this website. Currently, the only bands that are on there are the bands of people who already use TXBands or the notorious BOA or State winners who should have their own website anyways.
