  1. Politics have been and always will be a factor. The marching arts are way too subjective for scores/placements to represent where a band "should" be. Saying otherwise is hopeful, naive optimism. It's sad when students, who are meant to be educated in music (not scores, placements, etc.) see the very evident political factor in the activity.
  2. ohhh Taco Tuba. That was definitely on top of my list of most favorite competitions.
  3. I love: J'ai ete au bal - Grantham I can't get tired of listening to this piece. It has the coolest tuba solo. Theme From Green Bushes - Grainger Very cool little piece that not many people talk about. March, Op. 99 - Prokofiev I usually hate marches, but this one is really fun. Manzoni Requiem - Giuseppe Verdi Powerful piece that ranges in emotion. I love it. The full orchestral/choral version is way better than the band transcription, though. Polovetsian Dances - Alexander Borodin The melody of this composition is very catchy. Again, the orchestral/choral version is way better than the band transcription. Jupiter- Gustav Holst How can you not love any of The Planets? Masquerade for Band - Vincent Persichetti This piece becomes way cooler when you find out how Persichetti wrote it. Anything by Paul Hindemith He did a lot for wind band -- amazing composer. I'm tired of typing.
  4. I LOVE concert season. You get to play real, technical, and challenging music with good players. I think we'll be ready for honor band this year, too.
  5. Grand Nationals will never be in Texas because the only perennial finalists that would even make finals would be Carmel, Marian Catholic (only because of politics), and Lawrence Central. The rest would all be from Texas.
  6. The list isn't up yet...usually not until September-ish.
