  1. TxBands is proud to introduce our new Simple Score Archive (SSA). The idea is simple - it's easy to find contest results within the week they came out, but do you know where to look or search weeks, months, or years later? Well, now all you need to know is the year and the contest, and instantly you have the results you wanted! As will all of the features on TxBands, the SSA depends on the help from the users who look at our site. We need you to send us the results that you know. Please email us with all the information you have and we'll include them into our database. The SSA will prove to become a valuable resource in the future. We hope to be able to incorporate it into the directory, so when you look for a school you can see how that school performed in their history. But of course, the directory needs a reworking before that happens. So if you'd like to check out the archive just click 'scores' at the very top, or navigate to http://www.txbands.com/scores
  2. You are entitled to your opinions, though they are nothing new. Although, Churchill STILL made it. State has a brand new panel. And I know there are plenty of people reading this thread right now, and people that post on the site, that could personally tell you how their band got "screwed" by the UIL system. Well, it is what it is, and it has its pros and cons. And thank goodness for the word filter.
  3. The interpretation of the music was different. Churchill's seemed a little more lighthearted and scary (hence the words spelled out on the field) while Cedar Park's music seemed more angry and "hateful". Both schools played it very well. I think quite a few of the audience members had a deja vu moment when Churchill started their show.
  4. I posted this on the live blog and I thought I'd share it here: Howdy everyone, It sure was a fun evening with a lot of great bands and some fantastic results. I know the TxBands.com staff had a blast at Area D and boy are we pumped for the next ten days - BOA San Antonio AND State! I hope you enjoyed the free, up-to-the-second live blog. TxBands.com will be the ONLY resource covering state 5A live. Anyways, in anticipation for the next week, we are looking at solving some internet server issues. If you received a "500 - Internal Server Error" at any time this evening, we really are sorry. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for - and at $9.95 a month we don't expect a whole lot. Nonetheless, we still want to be able to serve the community. As the TxBands website grows more registered users and visitors each day, we want to make sure that everyone has uninterrupted access (which troubles us too, because then we can't live blog post!) Chances are that we are going to have to upgrade TxBands.com from its shared server (which hosts hundreds of websites) to a server that has not so many. If you are curious about our upgrades, please check out Dreamhost's page on VPS Servers. Dreamhost has been a great webhost to us for the last four years and we'll stick with them. While this significantly increases the price of the hosting, it's worth it. That being said, we have a lovely donation page that will tell you how to help out TxBands. If you have come to love and depend on the features on our site, please give back! As you can see, we're looking at about a $30 dollar per month increase, and while the staff will always pay the tab and keep txbands running, we sure do appreciate the support. And I promise, it won't be spent on steak dinners. Have a good night everyone! Get some rest and start those marching rehearsals on Monday. And also, Hook 'em Horns! Have a great week, Travis - TxBands.com Admin

  6. I just wanted to remind everyone that predictions for the Area competitions close at 11:59PM on Friday. These contests are different because users only have one week to see who is competing and then enter their guesses. Make sure you get your votes in! To enter your predictions, go to http://www.txbands.com/predict/
  7. Please note, that for live results for selected Areas and the State Marching contest, please check out http://live.txbands.com
  8. Did you try unsubscribing and rejoining?
  9. Talking backwards and playing speech backwards sound totally different.
  10. Bingo! Though granted I was before your time. Glad to know people still remember.
  11. Hah! Well that won't stop TxBands. We are far too cunning and tech savvy.
  12. Hey guys, I noticed today on my way back from OU weekend that I only received two text messages from the TxBLive Houston Event, and clearly, they were incomplete. Basically this is a widespread problem and we are not sure if it depends on the carrier, how the messages are sent out, or even our webhost. If you are signed up for text message alerts, please give us the following information: Cell Phone Service Carrier (NOT your number) How many messages were received today Briefly describe the message (ie first line of text) Were any messages obviously split up? (Like 'Hidal' in one message and 'go' in another - NOT incomplete messages, ie 10-6 and not 5-1)
  13. I have been graduated 2 years and no one knows the story... How sad.
  14. Actual results can be viewed here: http://www.dentonisd.org/521209139716707/b...B=0&c=69628
  15. I read an article on her in the Austin-American Statesman, and it was touching. I first got to meet her when she was my band director at Longhorn Music Camp after my 6th grade year. And of the three years I did band camp, that is the one I remember the most. Clearly all of her achievements lend to her greatness, but I can say from my own experience that she was a wonderful person and director.
  16. I agree with Clarinot. We need to record "Visit TxBands.com and donate" and then play it backwards.
  17. Perhaps you could ask around and see how close I was :-)
  18. This is the interpretation from my ears. If you hear something different, let me know. Starting from the end of the "backwardsness": Dan Potter: "Which one is better Scott McCormick? UIL or BOA? Lone Star States have a lot of bands. Legacy Legacy High School 2008." Woman: "So hot" (???)
  19. Yes. If a rogue admin closed this thread, what would happen :-)
  20. I can at least say the UT Austin (Texas) marching band out of my own experience. Music majors are a vast minority - probably around 30%. Take that for what its worth though; I know music ed majors are required to do Longhorn Band. Out of those not doing music, about 60% of the kids are engineers. The big thing is that it's not high school. It's fun and a class rather than an extracurricular. People are laid back and you don't spend all of your time memorizing dots and music. You don't go to football games to perform at half time; you go to games to see the football team play! The shows are fun and usually involve music that is traditional or appeals to the drunken crowd (like Led Zeppelin or Aerosmith). I guess if you love high school band and BOA style marching, UT wouldn't be your thing. But honestly... it's nice to yell, cuss, watch the football team play and not worry about your performance. Now if you're talking about the School of Music, then you'd have to find a music major :-)
  21. If you received the error then you shall not worry. It was an outage on our host's end (we hope). Best, Travis
  22. Definitely a good movie. The final fight scene could have been better though. It seems as though they set it up for a sequel. Now we just have to wait for Indiana Jones IV.
  23. Please do ask for or share content taken from BOA competitions. Those posts will be removed. Thanks.
  24. If the lacquer is gone, it's gone. The valve may be dirty, not necessarily bent. You can try to take some soapy water (use like dish soap... make sure you dilute it though!) and run a cloth through the valve. Better yet, get a valve brush (5 dollars?). If you do plan on reselling it though, it would probably be expected that you at least pay for a professional chem clean.
  25. It was said before.... Guests can read this. As your site admin, I suggest we keep this topic friendly and don't attack the public school teachers who serve us all. As your friend, I remind you that anything you say here is available to the public. If your director or school staff find out that you supplied contact information so strangers can get involved, that does NOT help your case. And, in my honest opinion, you do not have grounds for a lawsuit over the word 'cancerous'. Zach already explained what it means. Chances are good the school district already pays a lawyer, and by filing a lawsuit against the Asst. Principal you are filing a lawsuit against the district. Even then, there is no proof that the Asst. Principal had prior knowledge that your family had cancer (which I am sorry about) and took advantage of it to harm you. The end result is just a loss of respect and probably money if you hire a lawyer too.
