BOA San Antonio Finals Results

Band is not just about musical experience. It has so much to do with the visual atmosphere too. In my Psych class, we talked about memories. The more senses that are stimulated from an event, the better chance we have to remember and appreciate it. We hear the music, see the colors and kids, and if those two are spot on, you can FEEL the performance (think about Bell and Marcus). Think about it... why do you actually go to a marching event instead of just listening to the performance? The props, while sometimes distracting, are no different than colorguard flags. The colors of their uniforms and flags tell you the mood and setting of the music. Churchill used white flags for the moment of silence... coincidence? Of course not! White is peace. Props do this too. Plants for Marcus? Very Appropriate! This visual experience is what adds to the band, yet no one questions the guard! Now-a-days, you always have a colorguard! I think props are the natural evolution of the marching art. I say all of this, and I should mention that I come from a band that didn't use props. While I was in high school, I felt the same way as many of you. After seeing yesterday's performances, I support props 100%. It all adds to the experience and the memory. Just my two cents. -

Injuries
Dynasty replied to dtxtrmpt's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Oh heavens no. Almost everyone does straight leg. I didn't see anyone (I wasn't really paying attention but no one stood out) with bent leg technique at the San Antonio Super Regional. Now, straight leg shouldn't be confused with goose stepping (like the Nazi's). You still bend your knee in straight leg technique, especially on the forward march. The main reason being, its impossible to get your foot from behind you to in front of you without bending your knee. Backwards march is completely straight leg. Also, with that being said, that doesn't mean that every marcher exemplifies that style as a perfect role model. -

Recaps are Monday at noon. We'll talk scores then. Where is the two point difference between Marcus and Bell? I'd bet my money that most of that two points came from Music. -
We look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow! Feel free to come say hi at any time... We'll have on black TxBands.com Polos.

Dan is absolutely right... You guys have no idea what a treat it is to not have to constantly moderate everything. Considering all of the Super Mods and Admins are full-time college students, we only have a chance to read a handful of each of the posts each day. It's nice when the community can self moderate and be modest. Here are a couple of links to the old txbands.com, if you guys are interested (pardon the occasional slow loading time): The Original TxBands (3 Months after Launch) TxBands Redesign Number 1 (After 1 year) A lot has happened over the last two years. Members have come and gone, and so have school "fan clubs". I also remember media, but its a good thing we don't do that anymore. -
Yes... in our third year and someone notices us!

No worries, I'll be showered and smelling nice. This is as good a time as any to find a lady.

Ahhh, you should come down to the field and enjoy our warmth!

TxBands.com MeetMe for the BOA San Antonio Super Regional! When are we meeting? Right after finals placements, during the break ranks. If you're on the field, you'll have to wait for all of us spectators to descend to field level. Where do we meet? Side 1/Side A/Left Side on the 40 yard line, front hash. Who will be there? Look for me (Travis), Alex (Clarinot), Mike (mbui), Daniel Sanchez (Xenon), and Dan Valdez (Danpod). We will have on black TxB Polo Shirts. If you know you are going to be there, RSVP below! Will there be free stuff? Probably Can't make it but still want to say hi? Feel free to shoot any of us a PM. Alex and I will arrive Friday evening, while Dan, Dan, and Mike will be there for both days. PM me if you want my cell phone number. Will you guys accept donations? Of course! BOA San Antonio / State starts off our donation drive for server and site fees. While we'd prefer that you donate online (via Paypal or Dreamhost), we understand not everyone has plastic. If you give us cash or a check, make sure to tell us your username so we can credit you! It's going to be great to put some faces with usernames! See you guys there! Leave RSVPs and questions below!

midi files
Dynasty replied to dtxtrmpt's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Midi files, though with help of computers, have to be written by hand. Basically, mp3 (etc) is a digital file of a recording. A midi is a series of computer generated tones... its not recorded from anything. Basically, we don't have the technology to go from hearing chords on a digitial file from a recording and turning it into computer beeps. That being said, as Danpod mentioned, if you can get your hands on a score or have a great ear and a lot of patience, you can use software to write a midi. -

The results were input correctly into the database, it is just displaying something else. I really have no idea why its doing this... some error in the code. The bottom line is, you got your points if you got it right. For some reason it just displays something else. -
Westlake Marching Festival

It should be noted that CP had 0:04 left on the clock after both performances. And they stopped it as soon as the drum major put her hands down. -
