Dynasty replied to Trumpet Master's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Just a note: Repertoire Haven is no more. Since this was the only active thread, it will now be in the Music Forum. -
Too many sections on the forum

Alex and I talked a bit just now. Guard, Brass, Woodwind, Percussion, and DM will be merged into a 'Instrument Discussion' MeetMe will be moved to Events and be made into a permanently updated Sticky. More to come soon. -
I admit, I don't remember what mine was either. Any help?

As everyone knows, the forums were upgraded recently. Apparently the folder that held the avatars was erased in the upgrade. Avatars are free for all members, so please go ahead and feel free to add one for yourself! To change your avatar (or get one), click on My Controls at the top of the forums, select Edit Avatar Settings under My Personal Profile on the left-side column. Feel free to use one we have installed, link to one, or upload one from your computer. The resolution limit is 128x128 pixels, but Invision Power Board 2.3 is amazing and will resize it for you. Best Wishes, Travis

Best Rising Bands in the State
Dynasty replied to flutespaz21's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
Berkner does have an amazing director, Frank Troyka. I have had the honor of meeting him once, and I know some of the other TxB Staff members know him too. Given his success at CyFalls, I can't wait to see what he can do at Berkner. Just some food for thought, Rising bands can depend on many things. Much of it depends on the strength of the incoming class as well as the senior class. Then you have to consider the drill design, music selection, and performance venues. And there are countless more variables. Marching band is different from sports. Sports is riddled with statistics out the wazoo, to the degree that teams can be ranked or predicted even before a season starts. Marching band relies on too many unknowns. But then again, isnt that what makes each new season exciting? -
Absolutely. I promise either I or Alex will personally handle it.

Well I am excited to see what our writers can do for us. Does anyone have any suggestions on what we can do on TxB to serve you? Any new features that might help bring more people to the site?

Friends, Colleagues, and Fellow Forum Members, I do want to start off this informal letter with an apology. I am sorry that I have not supported TxBands like we did when it was new. That is about to change, I promise. I have refreshed my forum coding knowledge and once again learned how to make a bullet list: Why has Dynasty not been around? The Media Library was taken down (explained below) Out of Town Starting College World of Warcraft Now just some basic information about things, past, present, and future. Who are Dynasty and Clarinot Well, my name is Travis. Call me by Travis, or Dynasty. I am a freshman at the University of Texas at Austin, majoring in Aerospace Engineering. I play the baritone in the Longhorn Band. Clarinot is Alex. He is also a freshman but is going to Trinity University in San Antonio, majoring in pre-med or something related. What the heck happened to the media library? The media library had potential. Both potential to bring people to the site (everyone knows that it slowed after media disappeared) and potential to get us sued for all we're worth. At the end of GN, Greg (or Skramp of Skrampsnewplace.com) was asked, in my opinion, threatened by legal action, to either shut down his site. Apparently (speculation), TxBands.com and Indianamarching.com were also mentioned as being possible future targets. Honestly, we were scared, so we took the media library offline. BOA never contacted us. So now what with media? We tossed up the idea of streaming it, where you can hear it but can't download it. Or the iTunes streaming playlist. Since neither I or Alex are legal experts, and this clearly falls into a gray area of legality, we stayed away from it. Folks, just remember, TxBands never took video because of the clear legal implications. Audio files technically could come from anywhere. Unless there is some identifying part (ie Announcer's voice), it would take some effort to identify where the recording came from. I would imagine that there are a fair number of video sharing sites on the internet. One would think that by simply searching for a school name and/or high school marching band that we might come across videos. It's just a theory. So whats the deal with media? Just keep your shoes on. There are legal, ethical, and moral ways to solve some of these problems. The Future of TxBands Alex and I make two promises. The first is the most important: TxBands will not sell out for the purpose of financial gain. It is by far extremely unethical that we ask for community support to pay for our server fees (still 119.40 a year!) and then we would sell out for our personal gain. It won't happen. Secondly, TxBands will never go away. When you go to Skramps you can see that obviously the domain has been bought by some spam company. TxBands does have potential. Alex and I, unfortunately, are busy with school so we don't have much time to moderate like we used to. Therefore, we are going to try to focus mainly on development. I hope we can expect to see some changes soon. Currently under development is a new photos section and possible re-introduction of band bucks. If the forums look strange, that may be because I am working on reorganization. Just hold tight. In conclusion, if you're reading this, thanks for staying with us. I really forgot how much this site meant to us all. Without further ado, take care. Travis

Geez... Time for some medicine:

Actually, on the Price is Right you would bid 799, because its the closest bid without going over. 801 would only win if it was actually 801. And you two should have this contest!

I want to thank three people who have donated so far (As of 6PM on 11/18). Current 2006 Donators: Icee222 - $10 GuitarJoe - $120! lose2506 - $25

No, what you are seeing is her member photo not her avatar. Nancy, you need to go to your control panel and make sure you upload that image as an avatar, and not as your user photo.
-
No, of course not. (Read #1 at the top of the first post). Nothing will ever happen to TxBands, we're just looking for some community support when it comes to supporting a community site.
-
Wow... that would be... amazing! Just so you guys know, no one has donated yet. I know we aren't going anywhere fast, but the sooner we can at least pay off the forums and web hosting, I promise I'll stop harassing. Every $5 or $10 bucks helps. If you need a mailing address, PM me. I can take your cash and then just contribute online using my debit card (as to eliminate me having to manage physical cash set aside for TxBands).

Yes, there is spit in your breath. But little comes out into your horn. Its almost all water. The water comes from the condensation of the water on your breath. The air you exhale is pretty humid, considering that it has just been inside of you and that your body is over 80% water. The warmer air can carry more water than the colder air around you. Just think about a cold day when you are breathing. The cloud you see certainly isn't spit! When your air comes in contact with the metal, it changes temperature rapidly. Now that it's at a lower temperature, it can't hold as much moisture, so the moisture clings to the metal and forms droplets. Eventually these droplets of water coagulate to a point where they can't adhere to the metal pipe, and drain down to your spit valve. This is also why there is more spit when your horn is colder (due to the outside temperature). The air leaving your body is the temperature of your body. When it hits the cold metal, there is even more of a temperature difference. The colder the end result air, the less moisture it holds, and the more that stays in your horn. Its almost all water. Think about how much more cohesive spit is than water -- there is no way you could blow all that spit all the way through your horn. If you still don't believe me, take your mouthpiece, put it inside your mouth, and exhale through it onto your bell (or similar flat, metal, surface). After a minute or two, little beads of water will start forming. You'd notice if you were spitting.

Well, nothing has really changed. We're just trying to make it less expensive for me and Alex.

I need a new one.

No no no, our media section is ok. We're actually just upgrading it. We've been using the same framework for media since the website was programmed in February of 2005. It will be back, with a better interface, search, and uploader! Its all just a coincidence. -
Can anyone see my avatar?
