Round Rock doesn't make Finals at S.A. but does at GNats. I think that about suns it up.

There is definitely a strong culture here for music and it starts with the talented and passionate directors in our middle schools. They continually churn out fantastic young musicians to stock the high schools. And the district itself is a draw for directors at all levels. Glenn High School is certainly up and coming and I have no doubt they will be making noise as well in short order. We are blessed with administration and parents who all support the band programs, their own and all of the others, in every way possible. It is a special atmosphere that I am so happy to be a small part of.

Different set of judges. As much as everybody around here likes to compare scores across contests, it's still subjective.

Bigger bands with BOA finals experience will probably get it better.

Warren has won this contest the last three years. I think that streak is in serious jeapordy.

First time I have ever seen Avon. Their visual program is incredible. No doubt. Musically they are very good, but surpassed by several Texas programs here. It was a treat to watch.

And absolutely nothing I said contradicts any of that.

"Big, loud bands"? I think that way undersells the outstanding musicianship of the 3 LISD bands you listed.

I am looking forward to seeing a band that pretty much nobody expects to make Finals do it.

I would only find the performance nerve wracking if my kid were in the guard and making big tosses they needed to catch. Agreed on the awards being way more nervy.

I saw both shows for the first time Sat night and was impressed with Austin. I'm excited for them to advance. But I think McCallum was a solid step ahead of Austin and McCallum would be a definite dark horse to make Finals.

At BOA Austin, a ton of the Vista and Leander kids went right for each other when it was time to break ranks at the retreat. So cool to see that stuff.
