  1. Holy cow Keller, that was spectacular!
  2. Is anyone able to stream Box 5 on Roku? All I get is hockey. I mean it does say no guarantee on the Roku but...
  3. You know when live blog is even more super cool and greatly appreciated? When I'm on pit crew or props and can't see any other bands, which is basically most of the time. I pull up the blog so I can follow along while I'm doing the "hurry up and wait" thing. It's awesome!
  4. This made me cry! I’m so proud to have kids in band, they’re just the absolute best kids. Hands down.
  5. The unedited one reflected what we were all thinking.
  6. Vista Ridge sells this show like nothing else, you can see they love it beginning to end. Holy smokes, just beautiful!!!
  7. Vandegrift has NO weak spots. They are just incredible. What a marvelous show, in every way!
  8. MY LAWD LEANDER! The whole package is there and wow, the front ensemble. Those kids can play!!
  9. Marcus was great, and drum major, loved that speech. Lovely!
  10. One of the best things I’ve read in a long time! You had a fantastic show. A great attitude will carry you farther in life than any accolades, I promise you that. This competition is extremely deep and we have fantastic bands in Texas. Period.
  11. I forgot how much I love Hebron’s. Because pinstripes, it’s subtle, formal, and they’re instantly recognizable.
  12. Hebron, Flower Mound, Reagan, and Vista are my top medal contenders. But I don’t count out anyone- Leander is so so so fantastic and Vandegrift holy smokes. TWHS was probably one of my personal favorites last night, it sounded beautiful and was aesthetically beautiful. So many great bands and so much improvement from several groups. I think Westlake has a very good chance to be in finals- that show was exceptionally clean and well executed.
  13. KIDS did that with only 8 hours allowed a week. And months of constant rain. Everything to be proud of, whether you played last night or not. It was absolutely stellar, all of it. Hold your heads high. Be humble and be kind.
  14. Leander’s colorguard leaves me speechless. My word they are phenomenal!
  15. If nothing else this contest is very humbling. I'm sure the scores are insanely close. A testament to how fantastic our school programs are. Texas bands really are amazing. Can't wait for finals!
  16. Region 18 started at 7:30 and Bowie is the last band at 9pm. So probably by 9:30 they will start announching. It's usually very quick, how quick the website is updated I don't know.
  17. I can imagine LT being in a better position than their finals placement and even 2nd. Why would a judge comment on any group’s potential to rise or sink in finals and specifically name another band they can pass? I’m not sure on that. But, the 15 minute break and them not finishing, that’s a tough one. Rough season for a lot of kids.
  18. Best of luck to her!! Congratulations!!
  19. This was gold, really. Saturday is going to be a great contest.
  20. THIS! Well, I'm not ready to share my info. But I spend hundreds of hours every year running some large parts of our group. It's exhausting, but I regret none of it. If you can volunteer at all, please do it. The biggest worry anyone who runs something in band has is "do I have enough people?" Nothing gives me the shakes like not being sure I have enough people to get a job done. I will say my absolute favorite is PIT CREW AND PROPS. I have chased a runaway rolling cube as fast as my stubby, chubby legs would carry me before it hit a pit train and surprisingly this lady caught it. A band dad I will never know saved me from shame and humiliation as a prop I had sailed away like the Santa Maria before it hit a car in a gusty parking lot. We're the first to say AWESOME JOB KIDS even when they don't have the best run and are gloomy and sad. We tell every group going on "Kill it!" and every group coming off "Fantastic run!" I will never forget the hosting drum majors at one competition who saluted EVERY SINGLE BAND that came off the field. There is nothing like it for the kids, to feel like kings just for that moment. No matter what happened that day, the kids have their moment good or bad right there on the field and we're all there to give them that support. I also suggest every parent do this job at least once, the perspective is quite different. It's eye-opening into what your kid experiences after a performance- the good, the bad, and the ugly. They experience it all. So volunteer, cook a hot dog, sew some pants, pull a gong, push a speaker, help the CG with their amazing makeup or help with their flags. Whatever it is, I'm sure your group has a task you can do. If not, send the directors a nice email. They get plenty of pretty awfully annoying ones, don't be afraid to send a nice one that doesn't ask a single thing of them. Don't be afraid to take that first step, someone will show you what to do. Don't be afraid to ask for help or where to go to ask for help. I'm not very outgoing, but I never let fear get the best of me when I'm running a task for band. You would think I'm a CEO. And I'm the furthest thing from that. And I have ZERO regrets. I love band. It goes by in a flash, I will never look back and say "I wish I had done less".
  21. I saw this online! So great for them, that's just awesome!
  22. Definitely go to the lot. It’s so brutally hot but worth it. Before she marched drum corps my daughter spent most of her time in the lot. In fact, I wondered why I bought her a seat at all. Lot tunes and warmups are such a treat. Also, if you sit close, consider ear protection bc some groups are really loud, to the point of painful with the amplification.
  23. Must be? I only see Weiss, Sherman, and Dripping Springs at St. Louis, maybe I am missing something? Agreed. 7th at state is definitely not lucky.
  24. How often does Leander go? CTJ will be fun to watch at GN again, they blow my mind with the amount energy they put on the field!
