  1. 2017, 2019, and 2021 get assisted by quite a few Texas bands making the trip ofc, I’d generally say out of the last several editions of each, SA is still tougher and more competitive
  2. It’s…it’s a possibility🤔
  3. I am watching the live stream, and yes I’ve seen Hebron live as recently as Area this past weekend. It’s most definitely a box5 issue that drowns out the lows even more, most likely! I do agree that Hebron has a dark-ish sound, probably more so they have a lot of depth to it as well. Perhaps it also just hits different in the dome too. Hebron’s low brass is of course still very very strong, but overall I don’t think they’re as featured or as prominent as they were in 2021, that’s all I’m saying!
  4. Yes indeed, my only only complaint that goes down purely to personal preference, Hebron can fluctuate year-to-year in being very top heavy, to what I thought was the sweet spot, *chef’s kiss* of their sound in 2021. Their low brass last year was so phenomenal, carrying parts of their show, what I think is their best all-around ensemble sound they’ve made. And this year, while still very much strong and fantastic, they are pushed more to the wayside by the brighter colors of the high brass and woodwinds, of course, the musical color palette of the show probably necessitated it, but man their sound last year I think is still a bit better imo! Hebron still did Hebron things regardless and I enjoy both shows a lot!
  5. I’ve only made one statement of the sort regarding Texas bands and the other marquee BOA competitions. There’s always a bit of push and pull when it comes to different regions talking about what they’re best at. It’s BOASA weekend, it’s fine to acknowledge it
  6. Also yeah, no this doesn’t come from arrogance at all, everyone’s watching the same thing and would say dispassionately, without any gusto that at least 24 bands from here could make finals at the Indy SR. Just facts lol Edit: hmmm…twice over would actually be 28 for a SR hmmm… point still stands haha
  7. It probably is? It’s kinda hard to tell sometimes with each passing edition though, we may say the same thing again next year haha
  8. Understandable how after last year, Vista slander is kept on a short leash😬😂 They should be safe in finals imo
  9. I made that same prediction previously as well!!👀 probably like 5 pages back at this point haha
  10. I find myself being indifferent to really really enjoying it. I never have disliked singing in a marching show, in my memory anyways. Maybe a forgotten few times I have, but I for the most part like it!
  11. They were definitely a group that caught me off guard when I saw them in Area B prelims, expecting more of a subdued tameness to their sound, but nope, their mellos also made me feel back in my seat more than a few times!! I always love an explosive mello section haha
  12. I was seeing things, and I apologize there, having SA and Austin clumped together and then omitting LISD entirely with them being in a different area is so weird to me, but anyways!!! I definitely wouldn’t base the depth on the areas on hornrank’s rankings. Not enough of a scope based on the limited number of bands ranked to begin with and it’s a national thing, plus there is quite a bit of fluctuation to go where some bands in both Areas B and C get more love in the next week imo, especially with Prosper and Carroll going to Grand Nats. I don’t have all the data on Area D on my end because I haven’t gone to the area contest to see all these bands in action to be fair to you. I’m sure I’ll find my way down in the area at some point!
  13. Shoutouts to the Woodlands for bestowing such an iconic name for the Eagle, never knew that!!😮🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱
  14. My whole philosophy if I were to be a judge of anything is simply: if they’re good enough, they’re good enough. This speculative “prove it to me” phase that groups supposedly have to go through has always just been unjust silliness to me when people try to bring it up. That’s not how it should work, and lately, we’ve seen pillars of UIL in this area, L.D Bell, and Duncanville miss out on a competition they’ve had a stranglehold on for decades. It’s great to see them back of course, but I always dislike this kind of discourse where groups that haven’t been there before have to navigate baseless biases that aren’t even there in the first place, we have to stop with this. And I definitely agree that each performance on the day for any school is much more impactful than any reputation may have.
  15. Either an armadillo or roadrunner to be sure!! I’m sure UTSA would love to have their mascot represented here, if it happens. Having the previous champions on plaques throughout the trophy is also a fantastic tribute to those that have won it before. Hopefully it’s approved!
  16. If all the LISD 5A schools moved up to 6A, I’d agree. Maybe in regards to degree of difficulty with only 5 spots and a smaller pool of area entrants, but as of now, there’s a lot of depth to go around in both areas B and C, constantly growing year by year as well! Maybe some Frisco schools join the fray with some of their schools becoming a 6A in the near future, they’ll have to stop opening new schools at some point haha
  17. I fully expect the KISD triumvirate to be all within top 25, an interesting little prediction there haha
  18. I’m not making my case either as to voice my gripe with a band not making it previously, but just with the potential for it to happen because of the potential for scoring peculiarities between each panel. I do believe also that the scoring opens up to where bands start getting separated by a gap too much for one judge to be responsible for eventually, but it still would leave a sour taste in my mouth if I saw one or several bands get the short end of the stick due to there being large differences as to how each judge is adjudicating a caption. I am more than glad to give the bands that made it out of the grueling gauntlet of SA prelims to make finals all the credit in the world, but I also don’t think this process, or the judging is infallible here. No process is, and I get that, but this is definitely not the right way to go about it.
  19. Would like to add that their show was very entertaining! Not many bands in this area could pull off what they did in their ballad either, very awesome part of their show, that I’m sure was a crowd favorite!
  20. For those that went to both Area B prelims and Area C finals, I’m curious to hear the opinion of which y’all liked more to be a spectator of. For me, as much as I enjoy Hebron and Marcus(two highlights of the night for me for sure) I feel like Area B was full of bands I could listen to play all day. Pretty much every area C band with a few exceptions was *EXPLOSIVE* and powerful with their sounds and capabilities with their woodwinds and hornline. There was a true clash of styles between the two areas that was very apparent to all that attended both, it was a different world almost!! But I also feel many of Area B’s shows had better structure, gave the audience more room to breathe and cool down. Can’t really say much for the Area C prelims bands who didn’t make finals because I wasn’t there to see them, but I definitely enjoyed Area B prelims as a whole more than Area C, as spectacular as those bands were in finals👀
  21. Couldn’t agree with you more, having 2 panels only compounds the issue and make it even less a margin of error for bubble groups to make finals, not alleviate it. It goes for all SR’s that get two panels but especially so for a competition like this one😦
  22. Peace of mind for those “bubble of death” bands would be for them to upset a band projected to be a top 5 in their panel. I’d feel pretty good about it👀
  23. I just took video while I was there haha
