  1. Congratulations to the state advancing bands, especially Dripping Springs! Not many (me included) had them moving on ahead of Westwood or Bowie, well done to them!
  2. Wow, well done to Keller Central!
  3. Leander was much improved from when I last saw them at BOA Austin. Visually they may not be as good as they have been in recent years, but they still sound phenomenal, especially the brass. Very good performance from them!
  4. First time watching MG Johnson this season and I was very impressed. They have really strong sounds and the marching technique was pretty uniform across the field. Pop songs can be difficult to pull off in marching shows but I thought they did well with Get Lucky. Should be a definite medalist tonight and very likely a finalist in Indianapolis in November.
  5. That's terrible to hear, was really looking forward to seeing them. It seems the flu is hitting schools especially hard this year.
  6. Final Predictions Cedar Ridge Ronald Reagan Claudia Taylor Johnson Round Rock James Bowie Westwood Dripping Springs Weiss Winston Churchill New Braunfels The top 3 of Cedar Ridge, Reagan, and CTJ are locks to advance to state, with the order between them possibly shifting. Round Rock has bounced back from a somewhat disappointing 2021 season with a great show and looks likely to advance. I think James Bowie will be able to edge out Westwood for the last state qualifying spot, but it will be tight. After the top 6 it gets a lot more wide open in terms of who will fill out the rest of the finalist spots, so I wouldn't be surprised to see any variety of bands like Midway, Harker Heights, McNeil, etc. take the spots of the bands I have listed.
  7. Final Predictions: Hebron Flower Mound Marcus Wylie East Prosper Wylie Rock Hill Plano East McKinney Boyd Sachse Rockwall Rockwall Heath This is another super competitive area. The top 3 of Hebron, Flower Mound, and Marcus are obvious picks as locks for state (and state finals for that matter) but after that it's much more wide open. I'm partial to Wylie East and Prosper as two of the last 3 state advancers as they've had great results so far with excellent shows. The last spot I could see going to a variety of bands with the depth in this area.
  8. Final Predictions Coppell Keller Waxahachie LD Bell Timber Creek Lake Ridge Southlake Carroll Duncanville Haltom Keller Central Highland Park Lake Highlands I see Coppell and Keller as locks for state, with Waxahachie close behind them. I would like to say LD Bell is a near lock for state, but given their unfortunate track record in recent years I'll not jinx them by saying they are. I think Timber Creek has looked solid again this year and Lake Ridge has been a pleasant surprise. SLC is a little slower this year than they were last year, so they're on the edge for me in qualifying for state as I think they'll be playing the long game for Grand Nationals. To be frank the bottom half of finals is wide open to a lot more bands that I have listed here, so I wouldn't be surprised to see a totally different bottom half than what I have down.
  9. No one here has any intention of being dismissive of other bands when they praise other bands that aren't the one you support and you shouldn't take it as such. People have their own opinions and those should be respected. Making underhanded comments like "They can actually march AND march and play" is unnecessary and not needed here.
  10. Final Predictions: 1. Cedar Park (M/V/GE) 2. Rouse 3. M&G Johnson 4. Hendrickson 5. Aledo 6. Leander 7. Argyle 8. Lovejoy 9. Roma 10. Colleyville Heritage 11. Jack C. Hays 12. Burleson Centennial
  11. Judging by his location I'll guess that he's an Aledo band member.
  12. Every classification had state last year because of the COVID year that was 2020. Beginning this year it'll go back to the alternating cycle where 2A, 4A, and 6A have state on even numbered years and 1A, 3A, and 5A have state on odd numbered years. Though I think UIL is pushing to have state every year for every classification.
  13. Avon with the victory and captions sweep (tie with Carmel in music) has put them in a good spot here. They were excellent and have a super demanding show that will be tough to beat in November! And with both Avon and Carmel being a 1.5+ points over Blue Springs, it could mean they are slightly further ahead than Broken Arrow right now who was less than half a point ahead of Blue Springs a week ago.
  14. Just caught Mason in their finals performance and wow do they sound and look really good. Much better than their Top Gun show from last year. Wouldn't be surprised to see them take a caption in finals or beat one of Avon/Carmel/Blue Springs.
  15. Indianapolis prelim results are very interesting. Captions split three ways between Avon, Carmel, and Mason with Avon coming out on top. If this holds in finals Grand Nationals will be a lot harder to predict.
  16. Tarpon Springs certainly has...a lot going on.
  17. I'm usually not a fan of Carmel shows but I do like this one. I love this piece from Barber and Carmel does a really good job with it. Musically they have their dynamic changes mastered to a tee and do so with very balanced sounds. As for Avon, they've got a harder book so it's not quite as polished as Carmel, but I appreciate the difficulty. It's pretty close between these two, but I think Carmel will win the super regional. By Grand Nationals though it could be a different story.
  18. Ouch, tough draws for Keller and SLC. Both should still make finals, though I'm a little less assured about SLC this year.
  19. Flower Mound, Hebron, and Marcus will always be in the same region because they are a part of the same school district.
  20. The length of a show has no effect on a band's score. It's all about the content and performance quality of the show. UIL just has a shorter time limit than BOA so some bands may choose to make shorter shows during UIL state years or just cut out parts of their show for UIL performances.

  22. I'm glad that Wakeland was able to substitute a contest for area, and this is probably one of the better ones they could have gone to. Lineup is looking really strong with them, Keller, Waxahachie, and many others!
  23. Man that is brutal for Wakeland. They would've won here easily, but now that they won't be participating that opens the door for a couple different programs at the top. Good thing it isn't a 5A State year.
