I dont think it is a sport, and i dont think it should ever be considered as one.
some say that to label it as a sport would establish it at a lower level.
some say, and quote the dictionary as 'requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature' so therefore band must be a sport.
so then, i guess, with that logic you'll have to put yo-yo masters, rubix cube, beauty pagents as sports too. you cant argue that they arent competitive and need some type of physical prowess. and even now people are trying to label eating as a sport. really? really? and you know if you're gonna compete on who's gonna eat the most/fastest, people are gonna want to move using the bathroom after the contest as a sport too (ridiculous, i know, but get what i'm saying?)
to me, band is an art, and should be preserved at such. marching is a the physical embellishment of it.
and soaking with sweat and glory at the end of the rehearsal or finals performance in your respective 'big contest of the year,' doesnt make it any more a sport
