  1. With all of the substantial improvement from many band programs across the state of Texas, i'm starting to see less "locks" for snagging a spot in finals. I can think of about 20+ bands at the top of my head that would deserve a spot in finals. I love how extremely competitive BOA San Antonio is, and i'm expecting to be surprised with the results. I can't wait for all of the great performances this upcoming season, and I especially look forward to what Avon has to bring to their first appearance here.
  2. The performance and execution of Wine-Dark Sea was incredible. However I was pretty disappointed with the conductors style and interpretation with the second movement (not the performers faults at all). Everything seemed so fast and forced to me... and I could tell the soloists were trying to play with some forms of stretching and musicality but it was hard for them to do so with the pushed tempo. Disregarding my opinion about the second movement, the other movements and pieces were fantastic, and it makes me very happy this amazing level of talent and hard work in one ensemble.
  3. No longer a student here, but great year for them! Can't wait to see how they do next year, along with the other CFISD schools.
  4. Just curious, will the state marching contest be live-streamed? Since it's on a weekday i'm unable to attend because of college classes.
  5. I live in Cypress and it's a bit cloudy, but hopefully it won't rain. So far no delays.
  6. I genuinely feel bad for the bands that have to perform so early. The performance time itself is early enough, but the students have to report at their schools hours before. Here's hoping the students make good choices and sleep early. haha
  7. I remember seeing a video of Clements and thought their playing was AMAZING for early in the season. Can't wait to see how the sound now.
  8. please don't boast...
  9. Just now found out. They got 4th.
  10. I couldn't agree more! I feel I am very biased, but It's understandable for it to happen. I would love hearing some input from others more towards the unfamiliar side of the bands.
  11. I don't think there are any public videos out, but Cy-Fair HS is pretty stunning. I've seen them live once, and I have access to all their private-kept performance videos (Can't share if anyone is interested... sorry). All I can say is I can predict a huge leap in music performance and visual execution by the time of the Area competition. Their show design is fantastic with crazy hard drill towards the end of the show and their new uniforms complement the intensity of the show very well. I'm hoping they perform well on October 29th! I'm excited to see all the bands perform in Finals... such a great competitive group to keep things interesting and unpredictable.
  12. I'm curious about that too! I was surprised they didn't place among the top three in Class 5. One of my friends that has a friend from Falls told me they got a penalty so that may have affected how they placed.
  13. Thank you for posting this! I wasn't able to attend.
  14. In the past it has been 4 every state year, but with the rezoning it'll be interesting to see more bands advance... which really is good because this Area has a lot of state-worthy bands.
  15. How many do you think they'll take to advance to state this year?
  16. I believe Cypress Falls HS is attending this year. I'm expecting them to do great! They did very well at BOA Atlanta last year.
  17. I'm not familiar with a lot of these schools, so it's tough for me to predict what will happen. However, I'm almost certain one of the two strongest CFISD schools will take the win. I feel like it will either be Cy-Falls, the returning champion, or Cy-Fair. If i'm wrong, it'll be very surprising and that band will definitely catch my attention for the future.
  18. I'm very very interested to see how Area E will turn out this year. From what I've heard, a lot of bands in this area have started very successful seasons and are only getting better. With the new schools in the area, I think making state will be tougher if they keep the same number of bands to advance (4 I believe). I don't feel like there are any locks in this area... anything could happen really. Area E Finals might be surprising this year. By no means will I be accurate. I'm just making my prediction on what I know/have seen/have heard. (List in no particular order): Top Four: Cy-Fair HS Cypress Falls HS Clements HS Stephen F. Austin HS Upper Bubble: Friendswood HS Clear Brook HS James E. Taylor HS Seven Lakes HS Lower Bubble: Langham Creek HS Dickinson HS Looking forward to attending this competition! Good luck to all the bands!
  19. I honestly have not seen many shows this year yet, but Cy-Fair HS definitely has a lot of room to grow. They have a great show, that's very VERY difficult (especially for a band that has never had a show at this caliber before), but will be absolutely fantastic when everything is pulled off at the end of the season. They still have to clean, and possibly add more things, but really that's every band. Once everything clicks, they'll have one killer show. They're often overlooked, but I think they'll make a very big statement this year.
  20. I watched them perform their entire show after their homecoming football game and man... you're in for a treat. The show is very cool, although not necessarily clean yet, but will certainly stand out. As an alumni, I'm incredibly jealous to not be performing the show myself.
  21. Cy-Fair: Deja Vu This year is full of new things. Fresh new uniforms, great interesting original music, and a whole new level of visual performance. I can see great things for them this year! (I may be a little biased because I graduated from there, but we'll see) Best of luck to all the bands out there! This will be a great season. :-)
