  1. Yeah, I coudn't find the times for the Region 14 contest anywhere. Here are some results: Alice HS 1 Tuloso-Midway HS 1 Ray HS 1 Calallen HS 1 Gregory Portland HS 1 Kingsville HS 1 Port Lavaca CalhounHS 2 Cigarroa HS 1 Moody HS 2 Flour Bluff HS 1??? Beeville HS 2??? 5A: Laredo MArtin HS 2 Laredo Alexander 1 Laredo United 1 Laredo Nixon 1 Laredo LBJ 1 CC King HS 1 CC Carroll HS 1??? Some improved bands in 4A. In 5A United HS & United South both sound good. Laredo United had some very good moments.
  2. Anyone heard Duncanville this year? Talked to a friend at SMU that said they were simply amazing and will probably win it again. What else are they playing besides Verdi's Manzoni Requiem? Guess it is between them and Coppell again for Region 20??? Any news on Langham Creek, Spring, or Westfield since all these powerhouses are in the same area? What a joke! Gonna be a crazy one!
  3. Does anyone know the results from the clarinets in Area D? Someone told me the competition was so outrageous that there were a few or more former All- Staters left out, but they did not know the results because clars were the last ones and directors made everybody leave asap. Who got 1st...anyone know top 9? I can only imagine how crazy that was!
  4. In Region 20, 2 Duncanville clarinets got the area chairs at Orchestra and advanced to area. At pre-area, 7 or 8 Coppell kids made area, but the two guys from Dville are really good. They are in Area D this year with Spring ISD, Round Rock, North Austin area, Leander ISD, Conroe ISD, Klien ISD, and WOW...WHATEVER!!! That is some crazy sh#$!!! That is going to be the hardest competition in the state! They totally messed up that alignment.
  5. The 80's: Alice HS and Kingsville HS used to be powerhouses in the 80's as well as Laredo Nixon and Laredo United in 5A. Mercedes HS, Los Fresnos HS, Edcouch-Elsa HS in 4A during the 80's. Also Gregory-Portland, and Dickinson used to be a giants in 4A through the 80's and early 90's. Gregory Portland HS used to come in 1st in prelims and then choke in finals and end up in 4th and 5th place. Of course I have to give Duncanville credit because they have been the most consistent and successful program overall. The fact they have been around for two decades and are still so dominant really amazes me. Seems like Westfield is still hanging around and dominanting as well. It is good to see both those programs doing well.
  6. Have heard Coppell, Langham Creek, Plano East, and Marcus. Out of those four bands, I have to give my vote to Coppell. They sounded amazing this year. Every section sounds mature and the clarinets in Aegean are amazing, especially the clarinet solo. Also the brass is very crisp and articulate. Duncanville swept the contest last time around with Bryd and DHS winning, and I hink Coppell will do it this time around with Coppell North winning as well. Just my two cents. Good luck to all the bands and I'm proud to be in the great state of Texas because there are soooo many great bands in the Lone Star State!
  7. The Texas Tech Band Camp is always a very good camp. I had a blast last year and the conductor, Gary Lewis is amazing. You have the chance to play in the bands, orchestras, chamber ensembles, brass choirs, and clarinet choirs. They have stuff for everyone in the evenings. The people I met last year were way cool. Fun times!
  8. They have amazing private teachers and very smart directors with tenure and experience. Also, they had he best middle school directors in the state.
  9. The Duncanville and Coppell clarinets cleaned up at area again. Geez!!! Duncanville had four B flats and Coppell had three and Martin had two. Last year Duncanville had the same four make it and that is wild. Ug!!! They are awesome. Maybe next year. Boo hoo
  10. I remember Duncanville and Bell marching and playing pretty well even though it was a mud bowl. They were awesome and had like 1 person fall. And they both had pretty hard shows.
  11. My director said Duncanville's overall performance was pretty amazing. I asked him about whitacre's Lux and he said it was very well played. I want a recording as well, if there is one out there.
  12. Flight is very very cool!!!! Balmages rocks! And Duncanville is crazy awesome!
  13. Duncanville's recording of the Manzoni is really amazing! That is one cool piece even though there is more to the piece than they played. They are soooo awesome. Am jealous! j/k, but they do rock.
  14. Wow! Langham was good, but Duncanville's sound is amazing! They sound better than a lot of college groups I have heard. If they sound that good on a computer then I can only imagine what they sounded like in person. Congrats to them!
  15. Any of Alfred Reed's music. "Three Revelations from the Lotus Sutra" is one of my faves!!! Also, Reed's arrangemen of "Black is the Color of my true Love's Hair" is also awesome. Lux Arumque by Eric Whitacre is also a new and amazing piece. Rocky Point is da bomb. Songs of the West by Holst is also very cool.
  16. All I have to say is WOW!!! I am jealous and Duncanville is truly amazing. The Verdi was way cool. They have the most awesome clarinets. The first chair guy sounded awesome on School for Scandal and I found out he is only a sophomore. All these groups sounded very good and will represent Texas very well. Best of luck to these groups!!!
  17. It has School for Scandal and Lux Arumquelisted as grade 3's, but those are crazy hard pieces! That is quite a program they are playing. I am sure they are going to be quite awesome as always. I can't wait! The Federal is a ****!
  18. Anybody going to the Pre-Midwest concerts at the Murchison on Sunday? Both the Middle schools and Duncanville are performing. Downing Middle School from FlowerMoundB performs at 2:30, the middle school from Birdville performs at 4:30 and Duncanville HS performs at 7:00. I heard Dville is playing the Verdi Requiem and Blue Lake and that is reason enough for me to go. See ya'll there.
  19. Brazoswood, Duncanville, Berkner, Plano East, Langham Creek, and Haltom are examples of bands that have amazing musical talent. I hate to say Bell does not, but they don't! Get real.
  20. Usually biased towards BOA in this day and age. Usually it is the UIL band getting the short end of the stick even at state UIL.
  21. The judges are definitely not stupid. Martin has one of the best shows in the state this year. Great music and awesome drill make up their show. Bell marches very well, but they do not get the sound of a Haltom, Duncanville, Berkner, Plano East, or any of the top 5A bands...they never have. And I doubt it was a shock to Bell because they do not have a champoinship show this year.
  22. All the shows I saw yesterday were still pretty dirty. The only show that really amazed was Richland HS. They played much better than any of the bands there and their show as great! Reagan was definitely not the best band there. (And no I don't go to Richland). And what has happened to LD Bell? The show they played was extremely uninteresting and not very Bell-like. Brazoswood was very good! That was another band that definitely outplayed the top two. Overall, all the bands played and marched well.
  23. Anyone have prelim results, scores??? Looking for 4A placements as well. Thanks!
  24. Sorry Moose, but if you have never heard Plano East then that is too bad. They can definitely hang with the best. They won a few years back and came in second to Cedar Park one year. They usually always sound pretty darn good. I also agree that Clements will do pretty darn well. There many groups that were young last year. Duncanville had a very young group last year, but they did extremely well. They look much smaller this year, but they sound pretty darn good.
  25. I am going with Plano East on this one. PESH has always done well at the DMI.
