  1. It would've been interesting to take these top ten and see how the rankings would have fallen using a BOA rubric....
  2. So, will there still be A & AA exhibition for finals? Just curious.
  3. Speaking of UIL judging in general, I've always heard that uil doesn't take into account the difficulty of the show, but I think it'd be hard not to. So, my question is: does UIL grade including the difficulty or not?
  4. I've heard a rumor that some have been moved to Monday... will there be finals? (I know, I know, it's a school night but it'd be so awesome to have finals!)
  5. Schedule with times: 8:15 Southwest 8:30 Newman Smith 8:45 Independence 9:00 Grapevine 9:15 Birdville 9:30 Lake Ridge 9:45 Legacy BREAK 10:15 Liberty 10:30 Lone Star 10:45 Heritage (Frisco) 11:00 Cleburne 11:15 Everman 11:30 Granbury 11:45 Little Elm BREAK 1:00 Juan Seguin 1:15 Western Hills 1:30 Wakeland 1:45 Frisco 2:00 The Colony 2:15 Aledo BREAK 2:45 Lake Dallas 3:00 Burleson Centennial 3:15 Frisco Centennial 3:30 Summit 3:45 Timberview 4:00 Creekview If Saturday's prelims get rained out, they will be moved to Sunday afternoon (w/ no makeup for finals).
  6. At this point, it's looking like these bands will only get a prelims run. When does the schedule come out? Will there be a live blog covering the competition?
  7. Looking at Austin's weather, there's a chance it might rain.... Hypothetically, if the whole day got rained out, would it just move to a weekday? There's also a chance we might not see finals for this area. Hopefully, the forecast will change and the rain chance will go down.
  8. Aledo (@Arlington): https://youtu.be/3Yz0TIBhJIs
  9. Is it abnormal for bands to opt out of exhibition?
  10. My early season predictions: Top 3 (in no order)- Aledo, Lake Ridge, Wakeland Next state contenders are Southwest, Centennial, Newman Smith I think in 2013, they advanced 4 bands, so it will probably be 4-5 bands advancing.
  11. Is it just me or does the UIL grading system seem inconsistent (or even outdated)? I know that marching band is subjective and every judge may just have a different opinion, but the BOA results never make me wonder what their system is like the UIL results do. Isn't there like a new rule for how many bands go to state? I could be totally wrong.
  12. I go to a 5A school in region 7, and it's not very hard to switch from 5A to 6A when you're registering. Your band director should have forms that kids will fill out, and I don't think you have to pay extra or anything like that. It's up to you to decide whether to go 5A or 6A based on your playing ability. Your private lessons teacher can help with that; you have a while to decide which track to go. It's normally in late fall when you'll get the form, but still before Phase 1 (I'm pretty sure). In region 7, there are only 2 6A schools and a lot more 5A schools (like 5+, I think?), so that might be why your band director said it's a bit easier to make area on 6A, since they take more kids to area. I actually don't know that region 5/Haltom is in our area, since we go to Midland to compete, but I could be wrong. But your best resource is your band directors and private lessons teacher. They can help you out the most.
