And what about the "Cinderella Band of 2006"? GO AKINS! What a fabulous year! As for my own personal belief.....EVERY SINGLE STATE CONTEST has a judging score contraversy, so I'm not really surprised. How a band can stand still for 2:15 and get a medal is beyond me. -
BOA vs UIL Shows

Not any more strict on the field as BOA about their timing/boundary rules. Off the field is another matter..... -
Just got the word from "The Dome" : Duncanville's stand time is 2:15.

BOA vs UIL Shows
Band_Freak replied to TXGABandFan's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Bands have been "altering" shows for 10+ years now. Ever since the "8 hour/8 minute" rule came into being in 1996, bands have scrambled to find the happy medium. If you can squeeze in that much more excitement, then more power to ya! -
Gotta be the black. My first REAL experience with the Regiment was seeing them in all black during the 1996 show. BLACK is the way to go. Nothing was more intimidating or more spellbinding to the audience than seeing that mass of black on the field.

I was floored when I heard the opener. It almost sounded NOTE FOR NOTE exactly the same.

I completely expect them to be in Finals (both bands). CP continues to impress with their music from Shoshtakovich (always a good pick for shows, just ask WC kids). I don't expect RR to medal, but I picked them to make Finals yet again. I picked out 18 possible Finalists for the 10 spots.......this will be an epic contest!

Area D contest

yea our direc. had a long talk with us about not trying in prelims and watch our show go to waste blah blah blah...but we turned it on at finals and just kick so much ****. Are you serious??? Your directors TOLD YOU to NOT TRY in prelims? I'm not sure what offends me more, the arrogance of it, or the idiocy of it. And in my opinion the only reason Round Rock wins drum captions is because half there show is them standing still and raming notes and trying to play rolls They sounded pretty clean to me. Who says that the drum caption is based on movement? Last time I checked, the reason why I drooled over the Phantom Regiment battery is because the technique was INSANELY good. My old director used to say that your whole show could be the Bb Concert Scale in variations and you could be in block formation moving up and down the field for 7+ mins and still get a I rating. It's about quality of sound. they dont deserve another drum cap. until they start to move I disagree......and so would the entire Duncanville band. LOL! -
No, corps do not get new unis every year. They can get new instruments and even whole battery sets each year (depending on the contract they have), but not unis. Most D-I corps (I can't speak for II or III) carry seamstresses on staff to adjust the unis during the long season. It's been reported that DCI kids can lose an average of 15 lbs during the season, so adjustments must be made.

2006 UIL State Prelims SCHEDULE
Band_Freak replied to jr520c's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
That 1st Block is ALMOST reason to wake up and get down to the dome early. -
This gets into such a gray area that has been debated for about 15+ years now. BOA vs UIL vs anything else. BOA - What EXACTLY is GE? How do you measure GE anyway? Music GE vs Visual GE makes my head hurt. UIL - Not accountable with a "point system" and switches out judges between Prelims and Finals. Therefore, what Judge A thought was fantastic, Judge B hates. Also....there always seems to be ONE judge who is out of whack with the others. Personally, I'm always in favor of full contact marching band. Put two bands on the field at the same time and the band that does their show the best.....wins. I imagine that would not sit too well with parents, but oh well.

I hear they have a fabulous weight loss program. hahaha -
2000 = The LD Bell Triple Crown (1st time EVER a TX band won 2 TX BOA Regionals and UIL State in the same year) 2002 = The Infamous Mud Bowl in Waco (2 Ankles broken, countless uniforms ruined) 2004 = The year WCHS was robbed (1st in Prelims thanks to a lousy judge and 5th in Finals despite a better performance) 2006 = ?????? Input yours today!

Not true! Giordino (my ipod) is only a 30g and I have 2.3g left after cramming those on there along with everything else. My total so far is 2000+ for music, 50+ videos, 100+ pics and I still have a little room left. I considered an 80g (briefly) but decided against it. What in God's name would someone do with that much space?

Note to Sloan: Spinning rifles with leg........think about it for next week. Also, what about JUGGLING rifles? Or spinning underwater? My personal favorite would be spinning plates on top of the rifles and seeing how many they can spin before they fall. Hey, it's Churchill, it could happen. -

Quick thoughts to add to the mix..... Loved the Anderson show.....seemed awfully familiar though. Reagan is known as a BOA band? NO WAY! Haha. Their marching and music alone was enough to advance.....but get a medal on Super Tuesday? Probably not. I would love to see the scores from Area.....I wonder who the one judge was that always is out of whack with the others: 1 1 2 16 4 is usually what happens. WC continues to have a SICK color guard. 2 rifles at once? Are you kidding me??? There were a ton of excellent bands that went home that day and that night and everyone should be proud. That could be one of the finest Area contests I've seen in years. P.S. Hey CP! That Shoshtakovich show brought some WC 97 memories back, great job and AWESOME sounds!!! -
It is in AUSTIN, but is within PISD.
