Talk about a crime......I hope that announcer had the 101st Airborne to escort him outta there after that. Anyone else think that the Anderson 2006 show sounded a little FAMILIAR?????

UIL 5A AREA FINALSTS
Band_Freak replied to bumbythebeach's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
It truly is a shame that too many talented bands had to go home, but wow what a fun day that was. -
After seeing the WC Guard spinning TWO RIFLES at once......my anticipation grows by leaps and bounds.
-
I know I have 90+ ( I think 91 to be precise) DCI shows on my ipod right now (audio recordings) spanning several decades. Of course, that doesn't compare to the 238 high school recordings I have as well.
-
Hang on now, Phantom Regiment 96 TIED with BD 96.....this is a discussion on second place corps, not ties. BTW, NO MORE TIES! NO MORE TIES! And that show WAS way better than BD 96, but is still irrelevent to this discussion.
-
I would vote for Regiment 1989 with the New World Symphony. What a show! What sounds!!! If you haven't heard it, take a listen and try to get that song out of your head 15 minutes later.
-
No kidding.......that seem a little harsh to anyone else?
-
I gotta agree with Bari there. While the RRDL has been technically clean, they have not been impressive. It doesn't match up with my "fantasy staff", but I was thrilled to hear about Sloan taking over the Guard. That man can get some serious results with eye-popping precision.
-
Whoa hey now, weren't you the guy who was just singing the praises of Chambers and Reagan? Wasn't I the guy saying that kids from all over the state will sit up and take notice of the Crossmen? I even argued against the idea that Chambers will take Reagan kids over others simply because they are Reagan. I'm very interested in seeing how this affects DCI as a whole as well as TX bands an students. I still believe this will have a profound impact over the next 5-10 years.
-
Ok ok ok, suffice to say, Mark Chambers did remarkable things in a short time with A) Great kids Great support C) Great staff but you can say that for EVERY championship team. The Longhorns won because of talent, support, and staff......so did the Spurs, Patriots, Cavaliers, etc etc etc. We get that. I'm just REALLY interested to see MIKE SLOAN (is there anyone who does NOT love that Churchill Guard???) added to the X-Men staff. Looks like things are shaping up nicely in Reagan/X-Men land.
-
Oh yeah....I knew I forgot something. X-Men make Finals for sure, but get no higher than 7th. I expect at LEAST 10th this year.
-
Keep THIS in mind when considering this...... EVERY YEAR is a new year for DCI Corps. This isn't like sports where players are under contract. You can wonder how the Eagles will do with McNabb coming back or how the Rockets will do this year because WE KNOW who will be there. The X-Men could get an influx of BD, SCV, Phantom, Cavvies vets or ALL rookies....who knows? You can literally make the argument that a corps is really only as good as it's staff year in and year out.
-
I know it's early, but come on! X-Men get Texas kids, Texas staff, Mark Chambers, and all the Reagan kids you can handle.....so how will this impact them?
-
I agree. If you're one of the 2 million kids who gets turned down by the X-Men....I doubt you're next stop would be Revolution. With all the other corps out there in all Divisions, Revolution doesn't hit me as a second option.
-
Dirty SA? You talk about H-Town and then say DIRTY SA? LOL!
-
Anybody else have the Crossmen home page bookmarked and checking it daily for any announcements? LOL! I haven't been this eager for news in one helluva long time.
-
I'm not in high school at the moment. I used to attend Churchill High School. Personally, I fully expect the announcer to beg the crowd at any TX event to stop applauding so the Crossmen can perform.
-
Excellent. Rick Villareal is an outstanding addition from the TX ranks.
-
Well a good question deserves a good answer. I'm not currently at any school.
-
Very good question......here's another one: Why?
-
Doesn't matter what could happen, this is pure fantasy (wow are we big time nerds!) staff for the X-Men. I can't see pulling Spicer away from his roots (he taught visual fundamentals at Texas State).
-
Here's something fun to do......put your own staff together. No, seriously! If you could pick any TX high school director (NO FAIR GOING STRAIGHT TO JEFF FIEDLER!!!) and placing him on the X-Men staff, who would YOU get? Also, this has to be an ACTIVE director as well...no retired guys allowed. Visual/Drill: Mark Chamers (Reagan) Visual/Individual: Jeremy Spicer (Cedar Park) Visual/Color Guard: Mike Sloan (Churchill) Music/Arranger: Key Poulan Music/Brass Caption Head: Jeremy Earnhardt (L.D. Bell) Music/Percussion Caption Head: Kennan Wylie (FM Marcus) Fill in the blanks! Who would you want on staff from TX?
-
It is WAY WAY WAY too early to be speculating on who might go where or when. According to that ISD's website, the new HS will open in 2008 so there is plenty of time for a lot of people to do a lot of things.
-
Well obviously Chambers can run the Corps however he wants. Only he knows for sure what will happen as far as staff and Reagan obligations vs. X-Men. I would not be at all surprised if we saw some major staff moves within RR in the next 1-3 years. Running a 330 member band (one of the finest in the nation) PLUS a major D-I Corps on the rise (no doubt going to be SWAMPED with TX band kids) will take its toll after a time. Again, what he does staff wise is up to him....I know I would be delegating left and right. LOL
-
I fully expect a jump in rankings, but it would be very arrogant to assume that it would be solely because of Texas kids joining en masse. Seeing what Mark Chambers did in just 3 years with Reagan lends much more credibility and weight to that argument. Can you imagine what he could do WITHOUT the 8 hour rule? I can see the opening speech at summer camp now: "WELCOME TO THE CROSSMEN! (wait for applause) While most of you are new to DCI, but not Texas, let me give you a wake up call. Texas bands are limited to 8 hours of practice per week.....you will be doing 8 hours of VISUALS today!!! Have fun!"
