  2. Is anyone at Woodforest today who can post updates?
  3. Here is how it works at our region contest: 1) While the previous band is performing, the contest timer allows the next band to come into the field but they must say behind the back line of the end zone. 2) When the previous band finishes performing and the audience is done clapping, a two minute timer starts on the scoreboard. The contest timer allows the band (and any props / front ensemble etc.) to move up to the goal line. Note: the two minute timer is for the band leaving the field. It does not mean the next band's time will start when it expires. For example if the previous band's show was seven minutes, the two minute timer still begins whenever it is over, so there may be an extra minute before the contest timer gives the next band the go ahead. 3) When the actual time reaches the scheduled start of the next band's five minute setup period, the contest timer announces "_________ high school, you may enter the field!" and the five minute countdown starts on the scoreboard. 4) With :45 left on the scoreboard (five minute clock) the announcer begins the script "The next band to perform in Class 5A is the ______ high school band...." 5) When the clock hits :00 it immediately starts at 8:00 and at this point the judges begin judging. (Any preshow that has occurred prior to this point is not supposed to be part of the adjudication.) 6) Whenever the band is finished and after a few seconds of applause, the 2:00 clock begins for the band to get everything off of the field (outside of sidelines and endlines). 7) Repeat for the next band.

  5. Nice catch! I went and looked it up, and the verbiage does state QUALIFY! (2) 5A/6A Certification. In conferences 5A/6A the music area shall certify the two bands receiving the highest ranking in each conference to the state marching band contest. Should fifteen or more bands qualify for advancement in a single conference for the area contest, one band for each five bands that qualified for advancement to the contest shall be certified for advancement to the state contest. Also of interest....If 20 or more bands participate, the finals round will be the top TEN bands. If 19 or less, it's the top SEVEN! I did not know that... (2) 14 to 19 Bands. If there are 14 to 19 bands, the top 7 bands will advance from the preliminary round to the final round. In addition any band below seventh place that receives a ranking of three or higher from at least two of the music judges and one of the marching judges will also advance to the final round. The two marching judges and two of the music judges will change captions. There will be a drum major retreat at the end of preliminary round to announce the results. Bands not advancing to the final round will receive a participant award. At the end of the final round there will be a drum major retreat where each band will receive a finalist award and the names of those bands advancing to the state marching band contest will be announced. Under extenuating circumstances such as severe weather or limited participation, the contest officials in consultation with the State Director of Music may declare the preliminary round to be the final contest. (3) 20 Or More Bands. If there are 20 or more bands, the top 10 bands will advance from the preliminary round to the final round. In addition any band below tenth place that receives a ranking of three or higher from at least two of the music judges and one of the marching judges will also advance to the final round. The two marching judges and two of the music judges will change captions. There will be a drum major retreat at the end of the preliminary round to announce the results. Bands not advancing to final round will receive a participant award. At the end of the final round there will be a drum major retreat where each band will receive a finalist award and the names of those bands advancing to the state marching band contest will be announced. 6. There are 24 bands on the Area I Draw list, but Beaumont United is scheduled on the Region 10 schedule as "AAAAAA-SV" so they are not competing in 5A for whatever reason. We need 20 bands to advance to get 4 slots to State. By my count (please correct me if wrong), 1 did not advance from Region 11 South, 1 did not advance from Region 10, all advanced from Region 33. We're at 21 assuming Vidor and Nederland go. If Vidor goes and Nederland doesn't, we're at 20. Vidor, please go to area! Region 9 - Hope you all advance!
  7. For the uneducated like me :-) can you elaborate on the allowances that BOA gives? I know there are differences. It not sure what they are. Our program is looking to make the jump to BOA next year.
  8. From Region 8 South, AMCHS and CSHS received Sweepstakes and advanced to Area I - see you all at Galena Park!
  9. Good luck to everyone at UIL Region this weekend (and Tuesday) ! Hopefully everyone makes a 1 so we can advance 4 bands from Area I to State!
  10. Good luck to all bands today! Someone please post the results when they are available. Were it not for the Alabama game today I would have snuck down to see this contest.
  11. I'm late to this thread, but we use a Zoom Q8 Handy Video Recorder. It is very wide angle and is perfect for recording marching band! It's also very easy to operate, just mount on the tripod, flip it open, power button, record and you're off to the races.

  13. You may be right, I only mentioned them because they were included in the draw order, but that could be their mistake. It would be nice if 20 bands advance so 4 could go to state but with the slate down to 24, or 23... that is probably a slim chance.
  14. Wow, THANKS for doing this!! That's quite an undertaking. For Area I, you are missing Beaumont United. Here's a link to the Area I Draw Order: https://img1.wsimg.com/blobby/go/59e8cd43-c3cb-442a-913b-e742220c84a5/downloads/2019%20Area%20I%205A%20Draw%20Order.pdf?ver=1568990152650
  15. 5A Results: 1) College Station 2) Brenham 3) Bastrop
  16. Congratulations! I know A&M Consolidated took the bronze in 5A as well.
  17. You all did TWO marching contests in one day? That's impressive! Especially on a 95 degree day. If you directors share the placements at Galena Park, please share them here.
  18. I am JET '84 so needless to say I always enjoy seeing their show. They didn't disappoint today! Looking forward to watching that show again tonight.
  19. My goodness that Hebron show was amazing!
  20. That show wasn't on my radar, but looks like a lot of good bands will be there today. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1gXCQm0lnCJSB0u8ZAV3sY8UWlSpjlI7xvY21Vg5wSuk/edit
  21. I loved that Wakeland show and those kids can march!
  22. Here's the schedule. Blinn doesn't do a very good job of publicity for this contest, unfortunately.
