It was extremely close no doubt. Now the 1st and 2nd places made sense. Wakeland was just absolutely electric tonight while prosper did ok (I have seen better out of them.) I’m so excited to see what wakeland is going to do at state! 3-6 is where the mess starts. Personally, Lone Star’s show did not appear as difficult and didn’t entertain me as much as Centennial, Southwest, or Summit did. I would have put anyone else of those 3 over them. If a frisco school had to take the place, liberty, to me, was a better and more enjoyable choice. Centennial took a beating today, no doubt with such a long schedule. And now, it appears they made a change in style to score higher for it to not pay off, especially in such an awful way like a tie that didn’t go their way.

After getting to see them in close sucession to each other at the region contest, I can easily say this is going to be a battle between Centennial, Wakeland, and Prosper for those top 3 spots. Prosper had a great show, and really had some fantastic parts! It’s so obvious this is a group gearing up for an amazing showing at grand nats. I never really saw prosper up until this point and wow, they really arose as a powerhouse in an instant and it’s great. Wakeland’s show was pretty good, and they seem to have landed back on their feet after a rough season last year. They’re as clean as always and are an obvious choice for a top spot. Centennial, to me, is a huge wildcard. It’s pretty clear with how they managed to add on 2 new movements to their show in a week between PEMI and region, and at a good level (though needing some cleaning). They’ve had a massive shift in style since last go-around at area, going from crazy loud and powerful to a more soft, musical side. If Centennial can overcome that early prelims time and clean up their show, I can see them jumping everyone. Otherwise, it’s a Prosper-Wakeland bout with Centennial lagging behind. Now throw in bands like Summit, Lake Ridge, southwest, and Liberty into the mix, and you have what I feel to be the most competitive area in the state and probably the most entertaining contest to watch!

For 5A Music: 4 way tie between Frisco Centennial, Frisco Heritage, Frisco, and Newman smith. Best in marching: Heritage Best in GE: Centennial Best in Percussion: Heritage Best in Color Guard: Centennial Best Drum Major: Centennial 1st: Heritage 2nd: Centennial 3rd: Granbury (?) Honestly the 4-way tie was pretty ridiculous to me, considering the spread of abillity of the bands, especially with a musical powerhouse like centennial. But I’m excited to see a relative underdog like heritage take it! Frisco in general is bringing it this year!
