  1. a reviewing committee is precisely what i had in mind. i’m glad we found common ground.
  2. what i said about Hanna was because I felt they deserved higher, and anyone who was there will tell you as such. I agree the way i worded my posts could have been interpreted negatively due to a lack of context, but I’m several years removed from competing in this activity and am in no way biased towards a certain organization. Expressing what I did about one judge’s previous workplace does not give you the right to antagonize the entirety of area g. If i cannot give my opinion, then what is the point of this forum? I will challenge the status quo if I feel like it.
  3. did you attend this competition?
  4. Would it not be disrespectful if I used names? I’m just putting the information out there so it can be acknowledged. I’m not asking for a recount.
  5. previously worked*
  6. I can’t wrap my head around Hanna scoring 3rd. This was a weirdly judged contest to say the least.
  7. that moment when 1st-2nd & 3rd-4th are both separated by two ordinals
  8. shoutout to whoever yelled “puro 956” before Hanna’s prelim performance.
  9. weslaco came to play. i knew they were on the come up, but not like this.
  10. Los Fresnos had a lovely blended sound the whole time.
  11. Can't believe people are arguing anyone over JBA and that's coming from a rival alum. They're way beyond competing for the top band in south Texas; and more like aiming for the '20s' at both BOA-SA and State. (Accomplished only once by a south Texas group in recent history (Harlingen HS 2014 6A-SMBC*)) Anyways, this is really more about the two other medal placements which will be any mixture of PSJA, Hanna, Edinburg(s), and United. Personally, Hanna has the superior musical soundness as an organization in general, so it's really up to how good the aforementioned are at the marching band thing.
  12. it makes sense considering the reduction of numbers for these programs after covid. still very impressive.
  13. i always wondered if that was the case
  14. pretty favorable performance times for the heavy hitters coming in here.
  15. Alexander LBJ United United South La Joya Mission PSJA PSJA Collegiate? Economedes Edinburg Edinburg North Weslaco Harlingen San Benito Los Fresnos Hanna Rivera Makes for 17 bands. Considering the programs left after realignment, I can't see three of them getting a 2 at region. We'll probably see three advance to state.
  16. In my evaluation, the spots for finals depends on whether Lake Travis is a lock or not. Otherwise there’s Brandeis and Weiss that can be thrown into the mix.
  17. ideally school districts should be able to fund these trips just as much as they'd fund any other athletics, though that's seldom the case here in Texas. Either way, there are other ways around the problem, booster fundraisers, gofundme's; I know people are willing to help these programs. Plus, if they prove to be successful I'm sure it'll be worth it.
  18. *not confirmed but very likely **not confirmed but somewhat likely ***would like for them to attend AAAA Del Rio* Medina Valley Brandeis O'Connor Alexander United Rio Grande City* Juarez-Lincoln Edinburg North** Edinburg*** Economedes** Vela* McAllen* McAllen Memorial* Nikki Rowe* Sharyland** Mission** San Benito** Harlingen** Harlingen South** Porter* Pace** Hanna*** AAA Roma* Pioneer* AA Hidalgo* A Valley View*
  19. anyone know the price of tickets if we're just going to see finals?
  20. I see Brandeis taking it, they have a lot of good momentum coming from their finals appearance at TMC two years ago; however, don't sleep on Del Rio as they have been rapidly improving as well. DR could very well be in the top half of finals with a good run.
  21. I didn't realize that was the official name of the school! I've just known them as Buda Johnson lol. That's cool that they're coming here, but yeah those should be our medalists then.
  22. marching band is a relatively new activity in the grand scheme of things. considering for dozens of socioeconomic, geographical, and political variables, it's really impossible to have everyone in the same playing field. especially here in Texas where funding is usually more athletics-centric; however, marching band in Texas is special and has been rapidly developing over the last few decades into a world class performance activity. this talk about overly decorated shows is just redundant. man, i want yall to search up Stephen F. Austin (Sugarland) 2016 show. the guard didn't even have flags and still placed in the top half of 6A. end of the day, control what you can control, because what else are you going to do?
