  1. I think it took everyone seeing them in person to get it (or at least it did for me). I may not understand the theme if they have one, but my attention was unwavering the entire show because of the absurd level of demand and then EQUAL level of execution those kids were pulling off. Gave me and the other techs I was sitting with a lot to talk about design wise. I'm normally all about thematic shows (hello Woodlands) but it was immediately apparent Hebron is just on a different level this year after watching finals in San Antonio.
  2. There's a youtube stream of awards for free
  3. Important to note those kids were expecting to do a run last night and not early this morning. Way to persevere!
  4. I think I remember Hachie being the most common abbreviation when I was on here in high school, might be what they mean
  5. As someone who went through his program, I think he will kill it in the HS scene (especially with this program). I expect them to be very solid very soon.
  6. I was thinking of this exact group. When I was in high school it always annoyed me how high they placed over us but looking at it as a more experienced marcher and tech they're piss clean and that works for UIL.
  7. Put Rock Hill on your lists for the next couple years. That area is growing and FAST (Prosper), and that school has winning on their mind.
  8. Gotta add the time for announcer recognizing and thanking all the programs, educators, parents, and kids. I don't have any nails left lol
  9. Wow, that's such a tight race. I can't wait to see what margins look like in BOA sheets!
  10. I think everybody was ready to get back to band, and saw it as a year where the past didn't affect them as much. This line up looks a little different than when I went to high school, and it's exciting.
  11. No info to glean here as UIL is random finals placement, correct?
  12. Those captions are exciting, I wonder how close in points everyone is. This contest is exactly what I wanted it to be!
  13. If that's true, it's an excellent first competitive season for Rock Hill. I'd keep my eye on that program, plenty of room to grow where they are. It's also nice to see Frisco Centennial back up there, I remember they dipped a bit when they lost a feeder to one of the million new Frisco high schools
  14. Don't know what it is about this year, but I've seen a lot of comments of this nature all over the forums. Txbands just isn't the place for it.
  15. Love that rockout section, totally reminds me of something that CTJ would do in terms of design.
  16. Seems like a couple bands are having pushback about show designs of that nature this year. Hopefully students voice their opinions and can influence the design teams future choices. That being said, I've always wanted to hear the Prince of Egypt's opening hit on the field and it was great.
  17. I took the time last night to look for videos of each band and I've got to say it didn't clear it up for me. Everybody is facing the same problems (stickouts/visual dirt) and I think it's just a game of who's been the most focused in rehearsal this week and on the field Saturday. Every one of the top 5-8 bands has a good product and is in the running in my opinion, I wish I could stream it given I have the weekend off!
  18. What I'm interested in is who has put it into gear after earlier comps. If I was copy pasting results from Dallas my ranking would be Keller, Bell, Timber Creek, and Waxahachie. I'd love to see Waxahachie come out much improved and take a top 3 spot, I always loved their shows when I was competing around here. OR will Bell or Timber clean enough to upset Keller, who is the probable first? Super exciting to see who dug down in the last couple weeks.
  19. The band I tech for in Austin has a BOA length show, so we had to start halfway through our 5 minute entrance time and still were 15 seconds from disqualification. Talk about tense for some of these bands that could throw away a run at state by not managing time correctly!
  20. Heard Hutto cheering, good for them!
  21. So is it a requirement for all MISD alumni to have a ViewFromThe(insert location) username now?
  22. There actually is one already, although missing the abbreviation of SMBC ( State Marching Band Contest) is totally understandable!
  23. I think that's the mentality to have. I competed in this area years ago in HS (routinely ending in the bottom half of finals) and I understand the sentiment, but that's the nature of competing in the DFW metroplex. Band talent is deep and the competition to get to state is intense. UIL does their best to align evenly but at the end of the day, there's only so many advancing spots. It's hard to break through, but bands can do it!
  24. I find myself agreeing with these advancements, with Richland and Legacy as bubbles to advance as well. What I'm most interested in is how this Area compete at state, given I'm in Austin now and get to see these bands every weekend. I'd love to see a couple Area F bands make finals! Sidenote, did you go to Kennedale? Just guessing from the area we're talking about and username
