  1. Congratulations to all the finalists on a job well done. A little bit of historical perspective: ten years ago in 2014, Vista Ridge was 12th with a score of 84.00. That score would been 34th in this years prelims. (I know, different judging panels, yada, yada, yada). However, it just shows how difficult this super regional has become. There are a lot of bands who have closed the gap over the years. Shoot, CTJ won with a 93.35 and that would have scored 8th in this year's final.
  2. I agree, as a whole, the bands in 6A state prelims is probably better than BOASA. However, I don't think it's too much of a stretch to say that making finals at BOASA is harder than UIL 6A SMBC finals. There will probably be a couple of would be finalists from state who don't make finals at BOASA. Nonetheless, it'll be some great competition
  3. Keep in mind these are ordinal placings. We don't have access to the raw scores (1000 points each). It could be that maybe 5 or 6 bands were within 50 points of each other per judge and that could potentially be the difference in making state or not.
  4. Let alone a strong chance of having three medalists at state
  5. Saw them at Area D competition and they looked smaller than what I've seen in years past. One of the parents said they had 75 to 80 seniors last year and about 40 incoming freshman. They were still very, very good just not as dominant as they were 5 years ago.
  6. There are pros and cons with the boom mics. It certainly can enhance your sound. Likewise, it can amplify any mistakes that may occur. Other perennial GN finalists like Broken Arrow, Tarpon Springs, Avon, Willam H Mason, and Blue Springs, MO use them.
  7. Let's not forget Pearland. They certainly would have been in the conversation for finals as well
  8. Anyone know why Reagan didn't have tenors in their battery?
  9. Reagan, Round Rock, and CTJ should be finalists. Of course, never say never. I'd imagine all 5 being top 25 in prelims. Area B is also very deep too.
  10. Area D is already stacked as it is. I have no doubt that some of the bands outside the top 5 would be finalists in other areas. Many years ago LISD was part of the same region for TMEA.
  11. After seeing the tonight following Vandy at the football game, I'd say they're back in the mix. Much improved over BOA Austin
  12. Round Rock is going to Orlando Spring of 2023 and London summer of 2024. Don't think they're going to GN. If I recall, It cost close to 300K for a band to go
  13. Round Rock is going to London June 2024 so don't think they're going to Indy in 2023
  14. Not to mention 10 thru 13 was separated by 0.2 points.
  15. 2 of those are Round Rock in 2018. Got 13th overall. Around 10ish in most categories, but one marching judge gave them 34th. Nonetheless, it's going to be a great competition and although nearly all the finalists will be BOA SA Finalists, the order may be different at SMBC
  16. If there was a true Grand Nats this where all the big dogs appeared (Carmel, Avon, Broken Arrow, Tarpon, William Mason, Blue Springs, and top 12 from San Antonio), there's a possibility that FloMo wouldn't have made finals. Just shows how deep Texas is.
  17. With the next 3 years of having Grand Nats the 2nd weekend in November, maybe more Texas bands will attend even on a 6A state year. In 2016, Reagan and Leander did BOA San Antonio Fri/Sat, UIL State Tue/Wed and GNs Thu/Fri/Sat all in one week.
  18. Up to 8 bands from the 1000-1245 block could make finals (Carmel, Leander, CTJ, Hebron, Round Rock, Union, William Mason, Homestead)
  19. Several reasons: missed out on finals in Austin regional (2019) and not making finals in San Antonio (2017 and 2018). They had been a perennial finalist in the past
  20. Locks would be CTJ, Reagan, Vandy, Leander, Vista Ridge, FloMo, Hebron, and The Woodlands. Probably 20 bands realistically competing for final 6. Westlake, Lake Travis, Bowie, Cedar Ridge, Keller, Cedar Park, Rouse, LD Bell, Prosper, Marcus, Coppell, Timber Creek, Waxahachie, James Martin, North Shore, Pearland, Round Rock, Westwood, Wakeland
  21. 86.9 will be lucky to get 25th place in San Antonio, let alone 5th at a Super Regional.
  22. I've loved him since the day he was born. #prouddad
  23. FloMo, VR, Vandy top 3
  24. RR 13th Bowie 17th Westlake 21st Hendrickson 25th
