  1. The problems are that the system is saying..."You judge music" They dont say...you judge ensemble, you judge individual, you judge effect, you judge brass, you judge woodwinds...get my drift? I seriously think that is the biggest problem. If you dont specify them on what they are supossed to judge, then they'll judge whatever they want...which will usually produce such idiotic results. At least if (for example) they told this judge to judge brass and the other woodwinds...there would be some sort of validty to their placements.
  2. This is the only high school game that could hold my attention...would be awsome to see... Now REAL football talk...how about Ohio State vs. Michigan!? Now thats going to be a heck of a game.
  3. My show would be simple. A sheet would cover the field like a bubble from goal line to goal line...and lights would be put all inside of it so people are marching but all you can see are their shadows. All the time playing music from: Signs, American Psycho, Jaws, and Scream Yea i know what your reaction was: 1) WTF!? 2) God what an idiot... 3) HOLY heck YES! and i am an idiot
  4. Nope Nick your wrong...Props can affect your score... Look at spring 2002 for a prime example on how they can destroy you!!! Tee Hee i couldnt resist
  5. Its not the judges....its the system.
  6. The last time Spring did BOA and UIL together was 2002...They dropped out of UIL for the 03 season which means they couldnt go to UIL in 04. So i mean they really only missed 1 state competition. Since forever until 2002 spring did do both, and up until 2002 were very successful at both. The only reason i can see Spring NOT doing BOA this year is (whether the kids want to admit it or not) they are finally finishing rebuilding the program. Anyone who is old enough knew how dominant spring was in the 90's and especially the late 90's up into 2001. 2002 started a downward spiral and they have had a tough job getting back into the elite in Texas, and thats a heck of a task. Spring is finally (i say finally because spring has been small since 03) getting their size back and with the size comes the ability to do drill and be more effective. Their drill designer is doing great drill for them and Musella and the directors are picking great music for a program that can play their horns with the best in the nation. Im sure next year they jump into BOA again...at least i hope so! Sorry that was so long...i needed a break from studying...
  7. i think next time i'll pull up the predictions page, close my eyes, and randomly click the screen till i get 10 bands in finals.
  8. WOW!!!! Way to go marcus! But c'mon now you know we need the breakdown so we can all complain more! THATS THE FUN IN UIL!
  9. Hilarious. There should be a band playoff system...now THAT would be interesting. lol. And to the other comment about the 50 drill pages and 120 drill pages...that can also be used with larger and smaller bands too. Some bands are sooooooo big they cant do much visually on the field and it makes the drill simpler and cleaner as oppossed to just a large band (ld bell) who can move like crazy all over the field.
  10. Austin = SFA 24th i know right...crazy!
  11. Sorry by judging panel i meant the scoring system...my bad.
  12. when they finally have a judging panel with some sort of consistent judging... And note...im not saying this because spring did not make finals...in fact my sister even told me their performance this morning was not one of their better ones... UIL has the most inconsistent judging known to man...and thats a fact.
  13. and lets add another example on how terrible uil is...
  14. wow very nice sir. Will you be attending the state contest by any chance? If not, do you know of anyone who will do a review?
  15. So San Antonio was pretty crazy...what do you guys now see happening at state. I know the scoring systems arent the same, but this is a big regional and it gives a good idea of how bands are doing. Of course there are bands out there thats didn't go (i.e. Spring) so im just curious where you see them placing now and such. i think San antonio might show some ideas to what state could hold.
  16. So need an honest opinion...i want to go see finals for state, but the facts its on a friggin Tuesday, and i have tests, makes me very much ponder the decision. However i did tell my sister if they made finals i would make the 2 1/2 hour treck to go watch them perform (no way i can go watch prelims). So I didnt know who on here has actually seen other bands perform and all...i was just wondering what the chances are that they place in finals. I honestly think theres a very good chance since they have taken music at EVERY contest they've gone to this year, and visually arent bad at all. (between prelims and finals at area got 2,2,1,2). So should i plan on the trip?
  17. Lets maybe specify this thread a bit more...so like... The best bands Musically: The best bands Visually: The only reason i say this...is that there are bands out there that maybe year in and year out always sound amazing but dont always have the greatest visual package to go with it, and the other way around.
  18. Is it just me...or does anyone else want to jump up and scream vanguard during brazoswood's show?
  19. Im sorry but how did College Park get cheated? I'm just curious...because your scores seem pretty even across the board...
  20. Perhaps the greatest state? Sir...we all know Texas is THE state for marching band
  21. darn springs early performance time...jesus block 2 looks killer.
  22. How many bands make finals at state?
  23. 1) Spring 2) Brazoswood 3) Woodlands 4) Klein 5) Clear Brook Thats the correct order from finals.
  24. Everyone knows woodwinds are the weakest link ;-)
  25. Rawrr...you should refrain from posts like that. I dont know why spring people keep brining up lonestar...get over it already mmk? First the other kid now you arguing the SAME thing. And dont even bring up the Judge thing...because if anything GEIGER was a judge for GE (you know...director at Westfield for over 20 years..) As goes the judging style...this area is very much up in the air because of the simple fact we havent seen any sort of UIL style competition from these bands yet. BOA scores are really pointless because GE is such a HUGE factor. I believe for UIL the format is 3 music judges and 2 visual judges. Locks: Spring - Because they took music at LSP. Music is a HUGE part of UIL and taking it from brazoswood and westfield was something impressive. Woodlands - Just good. I'm not sure how the voice thing will go over in UIL but we shall see. College Park - Took visual at LSP. That will get the job done if they have another solid run. I see those three moving on with solid runs. Brazoswood is solid musically so they will most likely push another spot, the last one i have no idea though.
