  1. I haven’t seen them, but they are not useful. UIL judges use the numbers loosely just to be able to rank the bands. Some judges will take that number more seriously than others but you have no clue of each judge’s philosophy.
  2. There are at least 20 points that can be taken from GE and distributed to these sections.
  3. Why Cedar Ridge over CTJ? Wouldn’t the last head to head competition be enough data by itself?
  4. On a different forum, no one likes or thinks Blue Springs is top half.
  5. They were talking about prior to the Keller announcement
  6. Groups will know their placements but I don’t know if they get their score.
  7. I suggest a new topic discussion, people wont be looking at these area threads now that they passed. It is an interesting idea, but how many bands end up performing at each UIL Area prelims? Does it make it a multi-day contest?
  8. I can’t disagree with overall placements, but Keller 11th in brass (tied for last in finals) is baffling.
  9. I’ll be the pedant, drum corps*
  10. They are playing wise one of the best in the state right now. It’s show design and visual holding them back, but supposedly the closer is really good.
  11. Congrats to all of the KISD bands making finals!
  12. No you’re right, I’ll be first to admit that Keller’s show relies too much on showing off the impressive musicians. It doesn’t have enough arrival moments and the effect is not there yet. Not just the Keller slow start, I think they are on the outside looking in right now at Grand Nats.
  13. I remember Torchia scoring us really well one show in Visual GE and staff actually played the tape. Unfortunate that high school bands tend to have judges they can’t crack as well.
  14. Last year I would have given you that Coppell was better than Keller. Waxahachie I didn’t quite see it, but yes they did make finals. Timber Creek over Keller was a big surprise to me that seemed more correct at State.
  15. I’ll probably sound like a broken record, but Keller should still be the standard even with the director change. If a group can beat Keller they should win and be in State Finals. Can’t wait to see some of the performances to see who has the it factor this year.
  16. The number on the sheet is reflective of the performance that evening. Evidence in point, nearly every corps’ scores go up at every show all season with no dips. And some groups never have any variance in sub caption placement all season.
  17. In DCI there is great debate whether the Brass judges are call it like it is on a night in night out basis. But this is UIL
  18. We see this all the time in DCI and WGI when it comes to percussion. I’ve always been happy with Drum Judges because they always seem to be the best judges to call it like it is that night. There is minor variance in judges that seem just to score battery with more weight over the front ensemble and those that tend to give them a more equal weight. I’ve listened to a bunch of DCI drum tapes on the bus and the score is reflected in the comments for sure. I hope that we start to get the same outcomes in BOA and UIL. No matter the group, what you put on the field that night gets the score it deserves.
  19. I’d have Hebron 20th maybe, and if they spent the same amount of time as a DCI group maybe 15th. It’s a different beast entirely.
  20. I do wonder about the acoustics of the Ford Center, but I bet the seating would be lacking for a Super Regional.
