  1. Give me top half and bottom half at every finals in every contest. Hebron loses Grand Nats because this rule wasn’t in place. I believe this also happened to Broken Arrow once.
  2. I think it would be awesome if it happened, but keep in mind the Flower Mound was not competing at BOA San Antonio.
  3. My guess is that they would just overtake 1 and not 2.
  4. So is top 3 for state CTJ, Flower Mound, and Hebron now?
  5. Congrats to Timber Creek and Southlake. As well as Coppell for winning. This is the first time (depending on how you count 2018) that Keller has not won their area since 2006.
  6. I last saw results slated at 4:45
  7. How many times in a row has it been for Timber Creek being the alternate? I think every time since opening.
  8. All I’ve seen is Keller win with music and visual captions.
  9. Taken from the HornRank boards, and by user/mod hewhowaits, here is the break down of who made semis from which panel and broken down by class. Panel 1 Class AAAA Ayala Centerville Hebron Homestead Lakota West Panther Creek Plymouth-Canton Rockford The Woodlands Union Vandegrift Panel 1 Class AAA James Madison (class advancer) Leander Panel 1 Class AA Greenfield Central (class advancer) Lake Hamilton Panel 1 Class A Estill County (class advancer) Norton (class advancer) Panel 2 Class AAAA Avon Ben Davis Brownsburg Carmel Claudia Taylor Johnson Fishers Forest Hills Harrison James F. Byrnes Lawrence Township Park Vista Round Rock William Mason Panel 2 Class AAA Chattahoochee (class advancer) Milford (class advancer) Panel 2 Class AA Jenison Marian Catholic Miamisburg North Hardin Panel 2 Class A Beechwood (class advancer) Bourbon County (class advancer)
  10. I’ll be the first to admit that I call out poor UIL judging and numbers management, but nothing seemed egregious or surprising. If this is the type of scoring we get every year, I’ll be much happier. Congrats to all of the 5A bands on a great year.
  11. I think Semis would really help the judges and the performers. But how does it practically work? Does the competition start on Thursday? Or go into Sunday?
  12. The little quartet section was a lot of fun and some great playing be the Legacy kids.
  13. I would have them over Cedar Ridge, which would be a good indicator or making the last couple spots of finals. I think Top 17 at least in the end.
  14. I am really enjoying the playing by Sandra Day O'Connor, I would have originally had them in the low 30s and I see them as a 18-22 band. Might be best musically so far.
  15. Westwood was really nice and enjoyable. Show didn't seem quite as difficult as the usual top 14 but it was definitely well executed.
  16. Cedar Ridge was really good, but I am not certain that performance will get them in to the Top 14. But I don't know how the judging blocks are all divided to they could make it in as a Next 4 depending on how even the judging is between the two panels.
  17. Anecdotally, it seems like the state marching competition (and the area contest at that) has less qualified judges that tend to lead to some very crazy spreads in the same subcaptions. This disparity is what leads to this forum being filled with calls to revamp the ordinals judging system after every state finals it seems.
  18. I would have nothing to substantiate that claim. But who puts Haltom 20th in Music at a contest with 22 bands. I get that Daniel Cook has really good credentials though.
  19. This was the week that Keller finally put the closer on the field right?
  20. Visual judging in high school marching band always complexes me. I don’t quite agree with the placements of each of the groups on an individual and ensemble basis. It’s probably the only thing I’m competent enough on to comment. The most impressive groups to me movement wise were: Flower Mound Keller Marcus Hebron In that order. I did guarantee the people that I was with that Keller would not be scored top 3 visual when they were easily the most impressive. Hebron moves well but just wasn’t as visually interesting. But the season is early and I am always impressed by the kids these days.
  21. The prospect of making finals and placing higher at an easier contest in Midland. It can be a great motivator for a band.
  22. Yeah Semis is a 100% given. We’ll see the semis draw and performance for finals.
  23. Amen. I remember my first exposure to that at a Florida show on tour. It then drives you to work so hard for the same reaction at a small show in Fairfield, OH. Evidently we need to stop being sticks in the mud and let the kids know when they do something we love. (Some of us already do this lol)
  24. That ain’t it chief, this isn’t concert band. When someone moves you up out of your seat to cheer they’ve done something right. Ever been to a drum corps show? You’re idea of marching band “traditional etiquette” is wrong.
