  1. The level of competition here in TX is insane. Is there any other state with a contest with this depth? So proud of all these kids and how hard they all worked. Every one of them. Also, do we know which TX bands are making the trip to Grand Nats next year?
  2. Are the prelims scores up?
  3. That is heartbreaking for those kids. Hope they can fix it before finals tonight!
  4. This is fascinating! Thank you for taking the time to research and share.
  5. Thank you. That was/is my only point
  6. Lol Danpod. Seriously though, since apparently I was the one who set this in motion let me clarify as best as I can. 1) I mentioned Haltom because that is one band that has been hyped up by certain folks on this particular board. 2) But nowhere did I say that they aren’t a great band. They may very easily advance to State as could many of the other bands in this Area. And I will applaud them just as I would applaud all the other bands. It is a testament to the marching community that we all stand up when a band finishes performing. 3) my only point in that particular post was it is hard to differentiate between biased (and by bias I mean a natural bias toward your own program) and unbiased opinions (and let’s be honest, by now we all know who the Haltom supporters are) . Honestly it’s great that y’all are so hyped up about the program. All the best to Haltom and all the other bands. They are ALL great and it’s going to be a fun Saturday.
  7. You’re just reinforcing what I said. All bands in this area will have to bring it big time! Leave nothing behind so they are not left behind. Sad though that some of the great bands of this season and past, will end up being hugely disappointed.
  8. Remember, Duncanville and Coppell beat Keller at 2016 Area Prelims. I honestly don’t think anyone is totally safe. At this point, they’ve got to put it all out there. Sadly some very good bands are going to be very disappointed. Edited to add, I’m not saying past performance is a determining factor but just reminding folks that anything is possible
  9. I don’t know whether to buy into the Haltom hype of today or whether it’s just hype. See, that’s the problem with folks promoting their own program constantly- it results in a feeling of skepticism when someone might actually suggest they’re good. I guess we will find out on Saturday.
  10. Relax...it's an observation and I am not the only one saying this. I'm going to take the high road and respectfully end this discussion now. Have a good night
  11. Just observing. ME Numbers are all over the place. Let's just take Byron Nelson as a random example. One music judge places them at 21st, another places same band at 10th. Yes one is individual, the other is ensemble, but it just seems off.
  12. I agree. It is really not quite fair to any of the bands. It does not give you an accurate representation of where anyone stood.
  13. Music Ensemble judge clearly was watching some other show. IMO it is not fair to all the bands if his judging is so all over the place. Maybe BOA should have less contests but more judges at each contest and drop highest/lowest scores to prevent one judge from skewing the scores like this.
  14. I am scratching my head at a couple of the finalists, and at the top five bottom five too. The judges must have seen something I did not see at the contest today.
  15. All fair points. Except the football point. Many Football parents do not care to stay and watch the bands perform at HT or even when they perform after the game. They do not ask their kids sitting with them to show respect to the bands while they play. They talk loudly over the band performing and some even stand up in front of you in the middle of a performance. I’ve been to many away games and sat in the home section to watch the bands perform and it is the same, no matter the school. I’ve even heard a couple of parents/kids make fun of props. So I feel absolutely no compunction to stay and watch them play football. I admit that I attend football for band and I leave when the band is done.
  16. Have you seen their show this year? The only video I found was a video from the visitor’s side and it was from August. So it’s hard to tell. I also haven’t seen anything from Timber Creek or Del Rio or any of the other bands, so it’s hard to say. Well it’s only 9 days away!
  17. Side note- does anyone know when Hornrank releases their analysis for the contests? Is it the Tuesday before the contest?
  18. Anyone think about how the earlier start to the school year will factor in. Not sure if it affected all schools but I think that would be a consideration while comparing any band to “last year at this time”.
  19. 1) Keller 2) Bell/Coppell 3) Bell/Coppell 4) Haltom 5) Duncanville 6) Prosper/Waxahachie/Martin Yikes! This area is insanely stacked
  20. Anything’s possible, that’s for sure. But I think this will be hard (not impossible) for Del Rio to pull off. If TC can build on the momentum of last year and Coppell can bring a complete-ish program to the contest, they will be hard to beat.
  21. Good point. Can’t rule them out. I put Coppell in there because they came out on top in Area B. Maybe CTJ, FM, Coppell and Vandy in top 4
  22. Predictions??I think top 3 will be Vandegrift, Coppell, Flower Mound, not necessarily in that order
  23. Didn’t mean to say anything happened to Keller- was just curious about how they placed. Also it is interesting to see how concert band stacks up compared to marching season- if I’m not mistaken, Keller was ahead of Coppell and KC at Area and BOA for the music caption. Just shows the depth of this area. Insanely difficult. October is going to be so exciting
  24. Thanks. What happened to Keller? Were they at Area? Is there any way we can see the ratings?
