2023 BOA Katy (Oct. 7)

Finally back to San Antonio, and I have to say, Houston bands feel a lot closer to Austin groups this year than they did last year. Cy-Fair, Pearland, Bridgeland are killing it! -

Oh geez, I daytrip this Regional from San Antonio, so that throws a bit of a wrench in my plans. I also daytrip the Katy Regional... -

Seems the Program Book is now a dead link https://marching.musicforall.org/programbook-sanantonio22/ Anyone know what's up with that? -

Now I don't have data at my fingertips or anything, but I reckon 15 hours and 18 minutes is the largest time between performances on the same day? Hats off to Pecos! -

Wouldn't Mansfield Legacy be the third to go up instead of CC VM? -

I'm barely a college freshman, but I fall into the "old person" camp in that I really don't want to see headwear going away. Expressions can still be conveyed with a shako on. My freshman year of high school shakos w/ plumes were described to me as making yourself taller, giving more field presence. I like the things Flower Mound has done, wearing birds or Gaudi tiles on the shakos, or CTJ's very bizarre plume-manes this past season, and much prefer these to no headwear at all. I also mute the TV when commercials come on, so make of that what you will.- 1,093 replies

Not sure how others do it elsewhere, but upon graduating from my band program, we were given flash drives containing recordings of all the shows we were performers in, as well as audio tracks of our performances in concert season. Really appreciate the directors having done that for us.- 1,093 replies

Panther Creek brought it this morning! I made predictions for 24 spots, this might just be 25th, or even mess with those predictions. I love Firefly, loved it when Lincoln-Way Community played it, loved it here today! James Madison (VA) is also doing good things this morning! Looking for a spot around 20th, maybe higher with a good semis run. Unfortunately for me, I have an 8AM, so I miss the Best Vandy Bandy this time around. I'll be booking it to the library to try to catch the end of Hebron.- 1,093 replies

Predictions numbers only work for solid finalists. Bubbles cannot be accurately represented by the predictions. If you think a group is 15th, that's the same point value as thinking they're 84th. Predict Ann Richards for all 10 spots and all of a sudden that's going to make them twenty-somethingth on the analysis. -

In 2016, an 85 was a seat in finals. Today, that doesn't even get into the top 30. In 2016, 5 bands were within 3 points of finals. Today, 14 bands were within 3 points of finals. Some of the same performers were on the field for both of these years. Times change... fast. The conversation about this contest having semifinals needs to be happening now. Prelims/Finals only is no longer a reliable method for this contest. -
